According to Agnes on FTL apparently we have been working on a formation with three at the back for tomorrow night.

Im not sure if this is a starting line up or if its "in case we need 2 goals with 30 left".

Could be an interesting night!

I think the idea is to have lennon and bale as pushing LWB / RWB

I suspect this would only happen if we are 2-0 up with 20mins to go, to start with that formation could be suicide.

Could be interesting...

Gomes
Gallas Dawson Kaboul
Sandro
Lennon Huddlestone Modric Bale
VDV
Pavlyuchenko

Can't see the logic in this if I'm honest, would be Bales strongest position but Lennon would be wasted playing that deep.

Lennon would be playing on the wing, he'd track back like normal, but with Sandro shielding he'd cover the wingers.

Exactly.

I think it could be deployed later on in the game, into the second half and depending on the scoreline obviously.

Actually, I've changed my mind I think we'll start with this and if the miracle happened we would would close up shop when we have the business done and revert back to a more defensive set up

A few of us have been calling for this in a few threads, if it is to happen with 20-30 minutes left, then surely the line-up in the opening post is a little too reserved! If we're going to start with 3 at the back, I fully expect it to be nicdic's formation, however if it's a plan B so to speak, I expect it to look more like:

Gomes
Gallas Dawson Kaboul
Huddlestone...... Modric
Lennon .......van der Vaart ..........Bale
Pavlyuchenko.... Defoe

I think it would only be used with 20-30 minutes to go if we're 2 or 3-0 up. I think it could work.

I don't think you can play that formation without a shield like Sandro to sit in and cover the full back areas. We'll have to wait and see.

I can imagine it being pretty much a mirror version of Barca first choice defense with Alves, Puyol, Pique and Abidal, where Alves is most of the time right winger.
Bale has the engine and endurance to cover the left flank when needed and I think it could work

Totally agree. But if we use it only in the last 20 minutes as a desperation tactic, I won't expect to see Harry thinking about covering, just full on attack.

If we start with it, as you said, Sandro is a must!

Bring it on! This is the kitchen-sink formation we need for this game - all or nothing.

I think it's definitely worth working on in training. Any tactical advantage we can gain from a change of system would be a massive plus, not just against Madrid, but also in the Premiership.

Balls out Tottenham fucking Hotspur. I absolutely love it. Let's do this. :)

I couldn't agree more

What's the worst that could happen? We get tonked again, big bloody deal

We are Tottenham Hotspur, and if we implode, we'll implode with style and panache

We've got nothing to lose tomorrow except maybe a bit of pride

I want us to go absolutely hell for leather - it's hardcore skull fucking time

Then again, if we're 5-0 up this could be a disaster. I think we need a formation to shut up shop.
