tbf hasn't the young belguim goalkeeper been linked to us. It could be him we are looking at

That's what I have been thinking as well, I really can't see us signing Friedel as first choice unless we are bringing in someone inexperienced but good enough that we are sufficiently confident that he will ultimately replace Friedel in due course. This would obviously mean that Gomes was leaving though

I don't buy this harry has favs crap. All our strikers have rotated very offen this season and no one is nailed on a place without merit. Parker might start with Modric (although I doubt it) but if Sandro does well in training and plays well he will find himself first choice. Same goes for Hudd. Parker will be a great option and will offer something very different.

This is because they were all so shit that it made no odds who played when.

Harry doesn't rotate that often. You think of someone like SAF who is a master of it. He sometimes leaves players out of the squad all together in order to give them a rest. Could you imagine Harry doing that with BAE or Modric? No chance. He rinses them until they are injured or suspended and then wonders why players sitting on the bench get despondant and can't see any light at the end of the tunnel.

So we sign a young'ish midfielder for £12m, keep him for 2.5 years then flog him for £7-10m at a loss of £2/5m, then go and spunk that money on a 30 year old who is NOT better than our first choice midfielders and will be worthless in a couple of years. Triffic.....

I didn't either but the way he brought Hudd stright back into the team even though Sandro had been excellent did get me a bit worried.

I also don't think the strikers rotating was his choice...they were just all as useless as eachother so he couldn't really rely on any of them.

But I'm not one of these people who thinks Harry only plays certain players...I just hope he doesn't prove me wrong.

As for our transfer targets, there's always room for some experience (such as Friedel and Parker) and I'd support both of these signings as long as Harry is also looking at some of the younger talent. The links with the likes of Leandro and Gervinho suggest that those who think Harry only targets old players are somewhat pissing in the wind.

Assou Ekotto has played an insane amount of games in the last two seasons. Bale only got into the team because Benni got injured. Bale then moved into left midfield and played every game when not injured, regardless of poor fitness and form during the second half of the year. Van der Vaart played every game possible, even being moved out of position in a 442 just to make sure he played, despite poor fitness for a while. Huddlestone played every game possible until he got injured. Sandro's run was, like Bale's, only because of injuries to almost every other player in his position. Once Huddlestone was 'fit' though, he was straight back into the first team with Sandro on the bench.

Harry definitely does have his preffered XI, in my opinion. Which is why players like Bassong, Palacios and Kranjcar have barely played this year, even when the players ahead of them are struggling for form and/or fitness.

Parker coming in would mean him playing alongside Sandro, that would be a good pairing.

A strong and robust midfield partnership and with Parker's ability to provide some attacking impetus with his bursting runs we'll have a nice balance of attacking and defensive attributes.

Wilson would provide good back up to these two, especially as Parker isn't getting any younger. Would prefer if we sold Jenas and kept Wilson.

How do you know he'll play alongside Sandro?

He doesn't. Nobody knows what team we'll be playing because it's three months until the end of the transfer window and we only played our last game last weekend.

People seem to be getting very angry about our transfer targets already despite the fact that it's very very early.

So far Harry has had one year where he brought exactly the players we needed and one year where he failed to fill our most gaping hole. I think those (like you) who are criticising him already for this window need to take a step back and wait to actually see who he signs.

Its an educated guess though, if Parker comes it will be to play regular footie...he'll have loads of offers I'm sure.

If Sandro hasn't done enough to convince Harry to be first choice in central midfield now I'll be stunned.

It would be a nice pairing too IMO, if we get him...as strong as Palacios and Sandro but more attacking impetus with Parker in there.

So just as defensive and more attacking intent, sounds pretty good to me.

I wasn't having a pop at you mate. There just seem to be alot of people assuming alot at the moment and mostly using it to attack our current manager.

If we do get Parker I hope it doesn't prevent Luka playing in central midfield. That's where he's at his best and I wouldn't want him shunted out to the left regularly to accomodate Parker.

That said, Parker gives us lots of options and adding a player of the year to the squad can never be a bad thing.

With a selection of Modric, Sandro, Parker and Huddlestone we'd be in pretty good shape in central midfield.

This is what I think, Sandro and Parker as a pairing is pretty solid defensively, both have tons of energy, strong and can bring some attacking attributes into the team as well.

Would give us a very strong spine if we have a quality striker as well.

Also like Talkshowhost said though, Modric needs to play in the middle really, that's where he's had his best performances for us this season but yea, Parker coming in can never be a bad thing really.

Harry will surely rotate a lot more - the league will be the focus, the three cups will be for young players, those who need game time, and those with nothing better to do.

The season just gone every league game was crucial, we didn't go far in the carling cup because Arsenal put out a very strong team, and how do you say to one of your regulars/best players 'that game in the san siro on wednesday, you're rested because we have bolton on saturday'? The player would say he'd be fit for both so play him.

That said, if Harry doesn't rotate, and more crucially rotate at the right times with the right people, then I'll be having words (from my seat in block 31)

I'd imagine Scott Parker puts Huddlestone's place at risk, will certainly sharpen up the competition in midfield while adding a much needed vocal presence. He seems the type of player that will inspire other players to perform at that level. Away from home especially, I can see him really making a big big difference. I fully expect him to be Captain when Ledley isn't fit and we're crying out for a player like that. I have no problem with Wilson making way if Parker comes in, I'd welcome it.

He reminds me a bit of Keane only less dirty with less goals...the fact he's captained every side he's been at with the exception of Chelsea speaks volumes. I would love him at WHL, A great footballer who sets an example to the rest of the players every time he pulls on the shirt.

I fail to understand anyone who can't see what he brings to the table, last time he was at a good team he barely got a look in and he's been outstanding for every other club he's been at.

Has Harry actually said anything about this? I know it's been implied and I think it was suggested by Jamie Redknapp that what he'd do but I don't think I've seen anything from Harry on this.

When he first joined he did play youngsters in the UEFA cup but that had more to do with Premier League survival and the fact we still had a reserve team. I think it's more likely that our youngsters will be shipped out on loan once again, perhaps Rose and Walker will be held back but I'd be expecting them to make matchday squads anyway. I just can't see us playing many UEFA cups games with this young player thing.

Another thing, Investec didn't pay Millions of pounds to have their name on our cup shirts for kids. They want pics in the paper with Modric, VDV and Bale in their shirts.

Parker is an outstanding player, he didn't get voted player of the year for fun he got it for a brilliant season, he is also a leader which we lack on the pitch.

Parker would make a huge difference for us, I would even make him captain

DM - Sandro
CM - Parker
LM - Bale
ACM - Modric
RM - VDV

We would have the best midfield in the premiership
