I would prefer Vucinic to berbatov. I'm not convinced Berbatov would be all that motivated going from Man Utd back to us. Especially without Champions League this season. Vucinic on the other hand has been wanting out of Roma for a while now and would be a lot more motivated to do well at a new club. He's also without Champions League with Roma anyway so he wont be losing out as such.

I also like the benefit of having a striker who can play as a wide striker. It may not be his favoured position, but it does give us the option to change formation for certain games. He would porbably be on lower wages too. Not to mention the fans that will get on Berbatovs back as soon as his form dips, and it will happen because he left us so it makes him an easy target (see Keane).

I hope this player we're progressing on is Vucinic. With POTL confirming we're negotiating and now CorlukaModric saying we're progressing on a signing, I think there's every chance it's him. I know Roma are wanting it sorted very soon too, which is why they've threatened to increase his valuation.

How much is he on at Manc?

Also, who said we were struggling with Rossi's wages? I thought the latest ITK was simply about whether or not he goes to Juve?

I'd imagine he's on 90k+ at Manc, he did come direct from us, so he probably got offered a decent wage.

Think I read eariler it was Peanut who said that, I could be mistaken though?

The problem is Pav and Crouch are somewhat useful as backups and from the bench, Defoe offers us nothing. He is useless up front on his own, and to partner him with someone we'd have to drop one of the midfielders, who are much better players. The odd goal just isn't worth effectively playing with 10 men most of the game.

Dont entirely agree, but I know were you coming from.

The problem with Defoe is he will want to start anyway which isn't (shouldn't) going to happen so he should be enterainting leaving, but will we get any offers?

Crouch will be prepared to stay and will quite happily come in and out of the side, he's the least likely to be sold.

For me its between Pav and Defoe who we get the best offer for.

Pav could be more useful but Defoe is a good for a goal from the bench to...splitting hairs IMO.

Could be wrong but I think Berbs is on somewhere between £90-120K a week at Man U...obviously high by our standards but a lot easier to deal with than Adebayor's £160K. I think Berbatov is very proud too and being repeatedly benched and mocked by Fergie, and then dropped altogether for the champ's league final must have really hurt, and even though he'd also have to swallow his pride to come back to us, he would appreciate being first choice again.

I'd love Berbatov back but all things considered I'd think Vucinic was more likely, probably similar fees/wages, but Vucinic is a couple years younger and doesn't have the baggage. I don't think Fergie would do Levy any favors by selling him back cheaply either. Harry does like his "premiership proven" players though!

Even the high end of the Berbatov numbers makes me think we could actually deal with that. Would Levy give a 30 year old a 4 year contract?

Very good post and I fully agree with that.

Vucinic is absolutely my first choice now and I sincerely hope the exciting devlopment is him and given POTL's confirmation regarding negotiation there is certainly a strong possibility.

would of repped, but have to spread some love first.

I think there's some sense in there. Vucinic would fit the Levy model (a good model it is too) so much better. As much as most of us would settle for Berbatov, that move is littered with clusterfuck potential isn't it. Wrong age, no sell on, already somewhat unloved by some, seen as a cast off by the team we hate to feed. This is Sheringham, Keane territory that we've been down before. It rarely ends well.

Spot on.

I wish I did. I have a friend who says he knows stuff, but he doesn't even have any A levels, so I don't believe him.

I just think, with what people say and what I hear, that Vucinic is someone we're in talks with. Some recent itk's I think allude to this.

Oh and...

To those saying that Vucinic would be the easier signings, there is a flip side. Not Prem Proven, a record less impressive than Berbatov's and, if he comes and does the business, we can look forward to a repeat of the Berbatov 08 and Modric transfer sagas.

All that said, I still think Berbatov is a ****.

Berbatov and VDV is quite a nice thought though isn't it.

Only if Berbatov had never played for us before. I seem to be in the minority that isn't particularly thrilled at the idea of him coming back. But I guess he would improve on our current lot

Vucinic and/or Adebayor is the better option and, I think, the more viable one

If we were dragging our heels on Vucinic due to Harry being 'obsessed' with Rossi, it probably explains the comments from the Roma chairman a few days ago ie threatening the price would go up, I think it was Thursday...probably worked to. I know we were reportedly talking to Roma a few weeks ago, but those comments could well of kick started negotiations again...at the same time Rossi's move to Juve has been growing in the press all the while...

Putting all this together could suggest that Vucinic is our number one target now - and finally we are seeing some conviction.

or I could be adding 2 and 2 together and getting 49

Berbatov and VDV is quite a nice thought though isn't it.

Attractive as that may sound on paper it would cause us all kinds of problems off the ball as Berbatov is adverse to busting a gut for the cause and VdV is prone to wandering and I fear our shape would be compromised.

It would also lead to absolutely zero pace up front and teams would just push high up and squeeze the play.

Berbatov and Rossi though would be dynamite!

I still have no idea how Rossi plays up front with vdv.

Man i would love Rossi to be feeding off VDV,esp with his through balls which we have not really seen with the shit we have up top.

He is one of the best i've seen at dropping off and making a quality pass,we won't see none of this high ball hope for a knock down bs.
