I've always faintly clung to my initial belief that Bale would be better at left back. Obviously all the evidence suggests otherwise and most of you will be saying 'but TSH you stupid ringpiece, how can you say that?'

I just like the idea of a midfield 3 (say, Sandro, Modric and Diarra) with Bale bombing on from left back without being shackled which can happen when he's on the wing.

But it's very easy to argue against that because 1) we know Bale can be destructive from left wing, 2) the jury is still out on his defending, and 3) Benny has been quality there for the last two seasons.

That really is the way of it, at present anyway..I agree with all of your last paragraph, spot on...but it still makes you think though doesn't it...

Disco Benny is a much underated player but if PSG were to go up to £20M i'd find it hard to say no when we could probably get someone like Yuri Zhirkov for £10M as a replacement.

I don't want a replacement that has to learn the ropes. I want a player that's played with the team that actually knows what's going on.

This isn't Championship Fucking Manager.

Stop selling players for the sake of it! Ridiculousness!

I'm in the same camp as you and i'm also struggling to justify my reasoning for pushing Bale back into fullback role but he's still young enough to adapt should that be the route management wants to go down.

Danny Rose is being groomed for the left back slot. Whether as back up to Benny or as his replacement only 'arry knows.

...and he's now a big enough name to leave if he doesn't like the route management wants to go down. I'd keep him on the wing, and I'm also one of the original 'Bale is a left back' people. I was wrong on that, a rare blip in my record.

Yep, I'm your camp definitely. People forget that his initial good run of form, the year we finished fourth, started at left back. He had 2-3 awesome games there running from deep, before he got moved further forward.

Hard to justify it because of the evidence pointing to playing him at LM, but whenever I tinker about with our personnel and formation, he qite often ends up at LB !

We cant sell Benny, he is a class LB, possibly the best Ive personally ever seen in a Spurs shirt! Bale is far too good at LW to play him at LB.
