Can I ask wtf has happened to those 'itk' who said we have agreed a fee with vucinic, when clearly we are some way off doing that...... Also to the person who said we will sign a striker by Friday.... Or have they already stated why the following didn't occur?

was VDV actually signed as a striker??? he was not a striker at Real or Hamburg. he was a signing who fell in our laps and based on his name and standing we went for him. i could be wrong but i think he played in midfield at both clubs prior to joining us.

Vdv is not a top striker, he is an attacking midfielder. He is a very good player but 13 goals is a good return for an attacking midfielder but quite poor for a top striker. This may be our problem, with one up front, we need an awful lot of goals from midfield.

You say tom-ay-toe
I say tom-are-toe

The simle truth is, VDV functions in the squad place of our second striker. So, to all intents-and-purposes that is what he is. Someone early said he didn't want Forlan as he essentially plays the same role as VDV, and yeet he is universally acknowledged to be a striker. Go figure.

Some of you lot are f**king depressing.

We have built up a very good squad by adding quality when we can, if Vucinic is available and we are able to do a deal, quite simply we will. Consider the state we were in 10 years go and think where we are now. We are clearly on an upward trajectory so calm down and have some belief in Levy/Redknapp and the rest of the back room staff who have moved this club forward hugely over the last couple of years.

i admire your optimism

but if we start the season with Crouch and the other inept strikers we got then its definitely a downward spirral i'm afraid

And right now its look more and more like that is what we are going to do

As for qualifying next year, I believe, providing we can keep our star performers, and add a little bit of quality up front (which, as stated, I believe we will do), we have a very good chance.

I'm very curious, could you list for me what players would qualify for "a little bit of quality up front," in your estimation?

We didn't waste the whole window messing about with Beckham. We are talking about several professionals, here, you know - they are capable of working on more than one thing at once.

We took the best part of a month to agree a fee for Steven Pienaar (hey, there's only ONE SP :shhh:), firstly because football deals are complex business agreements, and secondly, because Everton desperately didn't want to let him go.

We took Friedel on a free, because, well,he was free  He also adds more top level competition in the goalkeeping position, an important aspect when we remember the many times the Octopus (much as I love him) stubbed a hair on his shin, or dislocated his glove, or summit, or for when his form dipped horribly. It has also been suggested that we are getting him in with a view to a longer term coaching role. I have no idea if there is any truth in that, but it does give a welcome reminder as to why we need to exercise caution as fans - we know virtually fook all about what is going on behind the scenes:wink:

I don't know why you are even using the example of Phil Neville. We made an offer it was rejected.

We didn't fail with a bid for Amam because it was too late. The deal collapsed because a Blackpool board member who was required to complete documentation couldn't be reached. You can't blame Levy for that - unless you are suggesting he had the aforementioned board member hostage to prevent him form selling us a player.

I have given my take on the late bids for strikers in January. Levy didn't come into his position sa Chairman as a footballing person, so he has been on a steep learning curve. He has been expanding his role in recent years to encompass some of the responsibilities associated with a DOF. As such he is still on a steep learning curve. With this in mind, I think he slightly underestimated the requirements of attracting a top striker...is all.

I don't think VDV fell into our lap - I believe our managment team worked very hard to lay the grandwork, and we benefitted from that.

I don't mean to seem like I am picking on you...I just have long-standing issues with the ultra-pessimism of many board members...in fact, I find it hilarious.

I don't think there is anything to worry about and I do believe, to fit their agenda, many members project Jnauary's failings in the TM back to a time immemorial, when the truth is we bought VDV to the Lane last Summer, and in the previous windows our business was enough to bring in players of sufficient quality for us to qualify for the CL.

As for qualifying next year, I believe, providing we can keep our star performers, and add a little bit of quality up front (which, as stated, I believe we will do), we have a very good chance.
I remember watching a cl game and afterwards ruud gullit was talking about vdv. HE said harry got jamie to ring him up and ask if vdv was any good!:bang: its little wonder we cant identify decent replacements for our frontline and go for them... maybe ruud has changed his number and harry cant work out if vukinic is any good.

It would be a long list.
Let's just start by saying ITKs have linked us with several, including Vucinic, Adebayor and Rossi (no screaming ab-dab we ain't got a hope in hell of signing Rossi posts, please, I am merely observing ITK has linked us to him and he would add a little bit of quality up front)..
No offence...but it's a bit of a strange question.

Anyone other than Pav, Defoe, Crouch and Keane?

Can anyone link Barrios into the new cryptic? I cant but think he'd be a perfectly good and possible target

Vucinic deal has stalled. We have agreed a fee! However...Roma want the cash upfront and we are offering in installments

My God!

What are people like?

Just because the team is in SA (or on their way back - I'm not their keeper!), doesn't mean the business/transfer side of things shuts down, just a lot of the "formal" contact ITKs have with their sources, and the sources with pertinent information, is harder to come by - thus the ITK dries up a little.

And I have a feeling that too much time on their own at the weekend is a little too much for some people to handle - they work themselves up into a frenzy and jump all over the first negative thing that happens - oftern pessimistic or bad news ITK.

This obviously signals the end of the world, as predicted by Nostradamus "Verily, the cockrel in the north of the south shall be toothelss when looking through the window for the third time" or similar.

If all the ITK we've had in this window, let alone any of the others, came true, we would have a squad of anywhere between 0 and 75 players. The fact of the matter is, ITK doesn't always (i.e. rarely) come to fruition. So chill. Bitch and complain come 1st match of the season with Defoe & Pav up top with VDV in the M****c role because he's gone to the chavs. Wail & cry on 1st September when we can do no more until 2012.

Don't start now. Its July. Still.

Please? This used to be a fun thread - I read all this stuff for years. Now, I'm not so sure...

So the terms of payment have always needed to be established or was it agreed and one of the parties has shifted the goal posts, perhaps?

Oh well no doubt the first offer of a curly wurly now , as a deposit, and 50p a year for the next 326,000,000 years can only be improved from here on I suppose!

Also, is there something in the possible fact that the players that do well for us are ones whose transfers happen over a really short period of time? I.e, we are sure of it, so we get the money out and get it sorted? Or is there nothing in that?

I'm dubious over this deal now.

I suspect we are close to agreeing a fee for Vucinic but I think Adebayor is the main target striker wise and we are pushing for him first and foremost...I know many want both but I dont see that happening.

Its a difficult balancing act but thats what I think is happening...all possible deals at different stages of progress.

Personally if we sign Adebayor, or Vucinic, and one of the wide men mentioned in here recently I would be over the moon.

Knowing Levy he's pushing for a double signing from RM for Benzema and Diarra, with an opeing offer of 9 million Eek

IF TRUE JUST MORE LEVY BULLSHIT.. but im sure we will have fools on here blaming harry for it.
Give me strength, have we missed out on the player? No. It's called our chairman trying to do the best for our club. Heaven forbid what he would need to do to make people like you happy. Probably bury the club into the ground financially, but even then when it comes out what he has done, you'll have a whinge.
