Adebayor is the striker I want but I just don't see how we can pay the wages. Our top earners are rumoured to be on 70 to 80k and Adebayor is on more than double yet. Those numbers just doing fit and I can't see how we could sign him on a permanent transfer. Maybe we could get him on loan with City part fuming him but for the same reasons I don't think we could ever turn this ibto a permenant transfer. Unfortunate, the same will apply to most top strikers out there and we might need a reality check of our resources compared to our rivals.

Don't like the sound of the latest ITK. Flies in the face of the ITK we had at the start of the window saying 'lessons have been learned'

Not very encouraging.

In fairness the season isn't won or lost in the first 3 games, and we still have a strong squad that should win against Everton and be competitive against the Manchester clubs. i'd rather DL got good deals on those coming in and ou than paid over the odds and took the first offer etc. we are a business after all.

I think the key is ensuring we have 2 or 3 strikers lined up in principle so that when DL goes in with a lowball offer then there is more chance of one of them accepting. I am confident we will have a new striker scoring against Liverpool.

He must know that if he moves to anyone but RM he will have to take a pay cut, and if we are the only team in for him, he has to decide if he wants to sit with the youth team all season on a high wage, or take a pay cut (and still earn a hell of alot) and play games most week.

surely it depends on what contracts our other players have i.e top earner clauses like Keane (?). Otherwise you shift three players on 60k a week (Keane, Bentley, Woodgate) and you can afford to pay Ady 180k a week (not that i'm saying he's worth that and DL would probably get him down to 120 anyway).

We need to be looking for strikers who are under the radar. Players like Leandro, Abel Hernandez, Ruiz. I think these are the players we can reasonably attract whilst the Llorentes, Adebayors and Rossis seem likely to pass us by.

We may pick up something in the last week of the window, but we can't rely on that. If we end this window with the same strikeforce as we have now then I fear a pretty major backlash from the fans against Levy and Redknapp.

If the riots continue for the duration of August Levys transfer policy will be justified

To be honest, with VdV injured and likely to miss the first couple of games, H will play 4-4-2 with Defoe and Crouch up top I reckon. We looked really solid in the 2nd half against AB so the striker issue won't be too critical if it doesn't happen straight away. I'd be more concerned about centre mid at the moment as Sandro is injured and THudd looks out of form and poss carrying an injury. Getting Diarra resolved pronto is the key issue at the moment I think. I'm sure POTL said the other day that everything was agreed.

If Adebayor was given 180k don't you think modric, Bale and vdV might start expecting something similar to the circa 9m a year? Plus every new player we approach will use this as a benchmark. Offering those kind of wages is more than a simple sum, it sets a president.

Easly said to just get shot of some high earners to pay one more, but it will run deeper than that, and this is why we have a wage cap, to make sure the club still stands and not run at a loss

I tend to agree that we might have to look at this second tier of player.

TSH i dont see why fans will backlash against Harry?
Its not him that is stopping the big transfers in fairness to him.

I think if we don't get a striker this tine the only person to blame is Levy. I'm certain Redknapp has given him a long list of strikers to get

That tactic has backfired the last couple of transfer windows, which prompted the 'lessons have been learned' ITK. I hope you're right and up until a few days ago I was also confident we'd have someone in place by the end of the window.

But as each day passes, the spectre of failures past looms larger and larger and it would be nice if on deadline day, just for a change, we weren't treated to that sight of that smug cocknocker Jim White on SSN saying "20 minutes to go, Spurs fans don't go anywhere"

what if we have been putting in bids for the players we want but no one accepts the bids we make?

just like us with modric, we may be getting told this play isnt for sale? i dont think we can say its all Levy's fault when all we get is ITK info which may or may not be true

I don't buy the fact the first few games don't matter, last season we couldn't have looked any more toothless against the Manchester clubs especially. These are games we need to take points from if we want to get where we want. These games matter and it's a fuck up not to have improvements in by the first competitive games.

You just have to look around this site to see that people throw out blame left right and centre without really thinking about where it should be apportioned.

Harry has copped alot of flak in the nadgers before for things that weren't his fault. I wouldn't see that changing even if it was Levy holding the deals back.

I got a text from a Spurs fan late last night saying we'd signed Italian striker Robertelli. I genuinely checked SSN and here and couldn't find anything. It then dawned on me it was a joke and I was being ultra slow :)

I think that's true and it's clear we have been bidding for players. But it does feel like Levy always uses the 31st August as a deadline when the first game of the season should always be the date we're aiming for.

They may want but they are contracted. Sorry, everyone in your workplace might earn the same amount but i know full well where i work that i earn a lot less than some others doing the same job. I cannot go and demand more or stop working as i am a contracted employee. So are footballers. I think we put too much on the fact that they will all kick up a fuss, it is media fueled reasoning.

And do we have a wage cap? I'm not so sure.

People earn diffrent amounts in my work also.

If you got a pay rise at your work and was told we can only pay you X amount as we cant pay more than that as its a wage cap, and then you find someone new comes in and gets alot more than the wage cap, would you not be pissed off? want the same? or even look at finding a new job? i know i would.

we dont pay big wages as we dont let our selves pay wages we cant afford, so we do have a wage cap
