Well last summer we got Sandro, Gallas and VDV, all of which were excellent deals and are great players.

It's a really difficult situation because we don't have the money or stadium to sustain a squad with players on ridiculous wages. We want to sign a really top name player but also many clubs have been looking for strikers including some of the biggest spending clubs in the world (Man City, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Juventus, At. Madrid, PSG, Getafe...). The biggest name players are going to ask for big sums of money and we have to wait until they have signed who they are signing and then see who is left.

There are still some really top strikers available who may be more inclined to move to us now that those other clubs are completely filled out with strikers. We are probably best trying to sign a lesser name but who is very talented and take a risk but at least have someone in who offers something more as a lone striker than our current crop do and once he is in place we can then take the gamble of trying to sign a really top striker.

I'm not sure anyone is to blame on us not being able to sign a big name, it's just not that easy.

Yes this is all true.

It wont sound anymore comforting come the the 1st of September if we havn't managed to improve the squad, particularly in the forward area.

However it will probably turn out to be a cold hard fact of reality and I'm lowering my expectations (not that they were that high) because I can smell dissappointment in the air.

DL wants 14m for bentley.

Go figure. All this talk of Rossi is nonsense, he wants a bargain,

i hope its not true, if thats how we are going and dealing with business and being complete cheapskates then whats the point mid table forever! im not saying we get screwed and paty over the odds but we need to be at market klevel, unfortunatly market level is higher than want levy may want to pay, but of we dont take the risk and go for it we are doomed and will take so many steps back as vdv bale and modders wont be hanging around.

our transfer policy is wrong, we seem to think we need big stars to make us better but we don't we need players who suit our squad. Man utd have spent money but they haven't bought world stars they buy players who suit there team. We all go on about vdv being a great signing but we got champions league without him but not with him. He is a great player but not for our system, with two up top we score alot more goals. Surely harry should be in charge of transfers it is his team and his system.

I agree to an extent. Harry wants proven players doing it now, or experience.

I think we need to take a chance on one or two and I'm not talking about 16 years olds.

So not even done deals are getting done? Should have known, same story over and over again. Was all jittery about Diarra being announced today, went to the OS - nothing, checked Spurs in the News - deal delayed, went here - no deal at all. Deja-fucking-vu.

It's probably hinging on the Palacios deal getting announced at Stoke I would keep an eye on that ...

The squad is definitely improved v. last season already. Friedel is going to push Gomes or will be a better stand in that Cudicini in a position we had some issues with last season. Walker and Rose are almost like new signings for our squad and give us more depth and options from fullback positions. Sandro only started featuring from about February last season.

Yes we need a striker, I'm sure everyone is well aware of it and will be doing everything possible to get one in. We just have to be patient, we don't want to be, but we have to be.

:sleepy::sleepy::sleepy::sleepy:

Levy is proving to be a hindrance to this football club. All of you have allowed the fact that he made a quick buck for Berbatov and Carrick cloud your judgement.

Going back to sleep now. Wake me when we sign someone.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

go to sleep and dont bother coming back. Spurs are a very well run club and in the top 20 rich list not because of the sale of 2 players or a run in the CL. You are just deluded if you think we would be any better off with a different chairman

I don't understand how people can say 'we've done nothing, apart from VdV'. That was a massive signing for a club like us.

We have to live within our means, we can't afford to gamble on future success. I'm as saddened as anyone that football is now all about business but so long as watching rugby remains the alternative I'll put up with it.

We can't just go out and sign any player we want and the only players worth signing are ones that significantly improve us. I'm pretty sure if Crouch, Defoe or Pav were playing elsewhere and we were linked most people would be desperate for us to sign them. We don't just need new strikers, we need M & S strikers.

If Levy does the same thing this year and we end up with Ade on dead line day I will be happy.... (plus Diarra) If we get Rossi as well I will the most optimistic about a season since I can remember... If we sign no one else I will still go to the first game of the season and cheer on what we've got and hope Defoe and Crouch can get us through to Jan!!

I think its just frustration and I'm sure Harry and Levy feel even more of it.

Lets just hope we can pull a quality signing off.

I do agree with what you are saying to an extent but splashing big cash on fee's + wages on players like Rossi and Adebayor would make such a difference to us, we would be a real force compared to spending smaller amounts of money on say Ruiz and Abel Hernandez who are a big gamble in terms of they might not be all that. Despite opinion we already have good strikers but now we need top class strikers and they cost big bucks.
Rossi + Ade would be perfect with Leandro signed in Jan tyo be the possible rough diamond that could turn out world class.

God forbid the day, Spurs will put Harry in charge of our transfer dealings.

I honestly believe we will bring in a striker. HR, DL and everyone else knows what we need, there is no "well, we tried" we WILL sign a striker. The trouble is, HR would prefer a PL proven striker, which are out there, but they're either stupidly expensive, or not an upgrade on what we have at the moment.

So, just sit back, relax and enjoy the ride, which we're all used to.

If we don't get a striker, we could always loot the Tottenham High Street and cause £9m worth of damage.

Oh. Wait. Did that happen already? Anyway, let's not get caught up on riot talk as there are plenty of threads for that elsewhere.

Let us indeed focus on the job in hand: which is not getting carried away with ITK, and is taking deep breaths and thinking that actually, Saturday's fixture being potentially postponed might be good for us getting someone in before our first game.

I reckon with so much unrest in here, it's just a matter of time till the looting and destruction begins

I'f we're going looting, I'm going to try and get Stoof's stamp.

Ryan, out of interest, have you any idea about Harry's view on Llorente? Some ITK suggests this would be the easier deal (as wages not as high). Is Harry stubbornly sticking to Rossi with Llorente as a fall back or is he just not convinced by Llorente?

Blimey, it's joyful in here today!
At this rate we're going to need a daily 'bitching about DL/HR/our transfer policy/Spurs in general thread', as I'm not sure that this fits into the ITK thread.

I know that it's not easy to stay calm but there's no point spouting opinions left, right and centre, until the end of the window - only then will it be clear as to what's happened.
It will either be a success or a fuck up.

You don't become a successful businessman without some degree of talent and you certainly don't become a Joe Lewis' right hand man without having a little something about you.
Give DL some credit and let's try to save the poo flinging until we actually have a target to fling our poo at!!

Very quiet on the ITK front this morning. Either nothing is happening or they're all sleeping off a hard night's rioting...I mean ITK scavenging (it's a fine line).
