Blimey, it's joyful in here today!
At this rate we're going to need a daily 'bitching about DL/HR/our transfer policy/Spurs in general thread', as I'm not sure that this fits into the ITK thread.

I know that it's not easy to stay calm but there's no point spouting opinions left, right and centre, until the end of the window - only then will it be clear as to what's happened.
It will either be a success or a fuck up.

You don't become a successful businessman without some degree of talent and you certainly don't become a Joe Lewis' right hand man without having a little something about you.
Give DL some credit and let's try to save the poo flinging until we actually have a target to fling our poo at!!

You know how it goes. A bit of bad ITK/low activity and it's doom and gloom. Some promising news and we're all extatic.

go to sleep and dont bother coming back. Spurs are a very well run club and in the top 20 rich list not because of the sale of 2 players or a run in the CL. You are just deluded if you think we would be any better off with a different chairman

Delusion takes many forms mate....and how do you know we wouldnt any better off with a different chairman? I don't have a problem with Levy per se but it is also clear that his transfer dealings in recent season's have been questionable to say the least. I hope he proves me wrong, but the end of the january window was case in point where we supposedly were making bids in excess of £30m for just about anyone that seemed more like a smokescreen for an incopetent transfer strategy not only in that window but also the summer before. What i mean is that there appears to be no substance behind anything that we do. Levy has just built himself a reputation with other clubs as being a bit of a dick and i can't see how that isn't a hindrance to our club.

As for the sleep thing i have been posting the same message for the past few days because it gets boring. Endless and pointless discussion on what we may or may not do to change our squad based on rumour and inuendo. Hence why i say wake me up when we sign someone, because as it stands nothing will be likely to happen until 11.59pm on 31st August when we will be blaming the fax machines again. It's all so predictable.

I'f we're going looting, I'm going to try and get Stoof's stamp.

Ryan, out of interest, have you any idea about Harry's view on Llorente? Some ITK suggests this would be the easier deal (as wages not as high). Is Harry stubbornly sticking to Rossi with Llorente as a fall back or is he just not convinced by Llorente?

Yeah, c'mon...let's show those arab countries how civil unrest should be done!!
Pah, you want civil liberties and freedom? I want an iphone and widescreen telly!!

I wouldn't be shocked if HR was a little wary of signing Llorente TBH.
In the same way as there are varying views as to whether he'd be a success on here - the difference is that HR gets paid a fair old whack to make these decisions.

As calm as I'm trying to be, it's getting a bit annoying that Spurs seem to be acting like a stoner in the supermarket!

You're all taking this itk far too seriously. I've been guilty of it quite a bit in the past but come on.

I am still told that Rossi is the target, that could be construed as stubbornness from Harry or simply a confidence that it can be done.

Harry would surely see the qualities in Llorente though, after all, he sees them in peter crouch!

Again I apologize for the limited updates from my end, my boss is really not well at the moment and I'm keeping the hassling down to a minimum.

after events of the last few days I doubt Spurs will be happy to announce some superstar signing.

If Adebayor was given 180k don't you think modric, Bale and vdV might start expecting something similar to the circa 9m a year? Plus every new player we approach will use this as a benchmark. Offering those kind of wages is more than a simple sum, it sets a president.

This. We must stick to our wage structure whilst the funds are limited.

Which may well be followed by Worried Wednesday and Tragic Thursday

... and totally fucked up Friday.

Maybe Levy is delaying the announcement of our new striker(s) et al until he has some more of the site for the new stadium cleared on the cheap!

Appreciate that mate. It's good to try and get some idea of Harry's thinking.

Rossi + Llorente = Championship winning version of Defoe + Crouch.

I think if you look at Levy's history, you can see why people are panicking. During his time as chairman, all but one of his best buys have been done by this point: Berbatov, Modric, Bale all early doors. Sandro may well join that. Of all his last second buys, VDV is the only one that hasn't sucked balls. Rasiak, Murphy, Gilberto, Rocha were all horrible signings. Niko was last second, but has been fairly unsuccessful due to lack of playing time. And Corluka was a last minute transfer, but that had more to do with City playing games with us for weeks after we had it all settled.

The deeper it goes into August, the more likely it will be a failure. Carrick was late and was great. Pavlyuchenko was a late deal that was a reaction to losing Arshavin and has been so-so. Robbie Keane was very last minute on his return from Liverpool and has been a disaster, second time around. Bentley was at window close and has never been a good fit.

The fact is that when we have our targets established and go after them early they tend to be successful. BAE, Gomes, Lennon, Huddlestone, Crouch were all done by now and have been different levels of good for the team. The only ones that were failures on our end when signed early were Bent, Kaboul, GDS and KPB, but other than GDS, they were mistakes on our end as they did go on to be great elsewhere, to the point where we bought Kaboul a second time.

Historically, sign early and you have a good player. The later you go into August, the better chance of failure. Wait til the last day and it is almost guaranteed to be a failure.

So, Levy has passed the the point where success is more likely than failure. And every day, the chance of a signing being a failure is more probable.

What the club saves on transfers will eventually spill down to us. Just think of all those 40 quids we'd all be spending on FIFA 12! Now, no need!

So is the general consensus that the Diarra deal has been done and we await the finalising of Palacios to Stoke before announcing it

I was thinking that last night, not so sure this morning....I think wages could still be an issue regarding Diarra.

The Sun (I know) are saying we've pulled out of going for diarra because of the fee. I guess it could be games from our end though.
