Yes!

Been saying it for over 12 months. Our whole team, apart from VDV, is better suited to 4-4-2.

Bale on the right was a bit of a disaster but overall we definitely look more balanced.

There is always the option of playing VDV on the right but then he will leave Walker exposed.

Away from home, at the weaker teams, we should always play 4-4-2 with Ade and Defoe.

Another option would be

------Parker---Sandro----
----------Modric-----------
-----VDV----------Bale----
--------Adebayor---------

Can't believe his goal glossed over how poor Defoe was again for some people. He's even more out of his depth next to someone like Ade, just like he was alongside Berbs.

Ade and vdV will be an awesome partership though :hump:

I still hate 4-4-2, especially with the squad we have.

Agree, but it's the old English way isn't it. Some people just can't break away from it.

Very good win today yes, but I don't think 4-4-2 with our midfield options is the way forward. Just imo of course.

We got 4th with 442 and with worse players than what we have now. I don't think the formation is the issue so much as the players within the formation.

When we played 442 with Lennon on one wing and Modric as a playmaker on the left we had a good balance. When we tried 442 with Lennon and Bale it didn't create half as much as what was supposedly a less attacking team.

We have the right players for both 442 and 4411, it's up to the manager to pick and choose when is the best time to use which one.

I think Ade will work well with VdV so its 4-4-1-1 for me.

Defoe was good today, worked hard, made a couple of good passes. Moved into good areas, showed good awareness, and got a few good shots in as well. The problem is people expect Defoe to play in a certain style so they tend to ignore the things he does which are not in fitting with his apparent skill set.

I hope we have a loan to buy agreement for ade cos he is just what we have needed for a long time, it would be a shame to only have him for a season.

and we win and score goals again.. :eek:mg:

that almost implies that we didnt score or win when we didnt play 4-5-1 or without a big and a little man? Just to remind you - we finished 5th last season and made the last 8 of the hardest club competition in the world. I assume we must have won a few games tbh

I think, ironically, the players we have are perhaps better suited to 4-2-3-1. It's not as if we looked particularly good today. We didn't, let's be honest. Yes, we won, but we also could easily have lost.

4-4-2 is a good option but it's not the be all and end all. It's good to have options for flexibility.

Personally I'd like to see us go 4-2-3-1 when everyone's back fit (Sandro and VDV in particular).
