i know its only bentley but surely he is our only right side option when lennon does his groin 4 times and his hamstring 6 times!! Maybe we are gonna make a last hour bid for walnut?

I just hope we don't sell VDV tomorrow and don't bring in somebody of equal quality. We are f'd if we do such a thing and this window will be a complete disaster. We would have lost our three most influential players from last year in VDV, Modric, and King. Absolute disaster.
Neither King nor Rafa was amongst our 3 most influential players last season.

I do not understand how Ade and Defoe could be considered sufficient for strikers...we were stronger last year with Pav in the first half and Saha in the second, both of whom are better in the lone role than Defoe. We were also very fortunate that Ade was available almost every game, as we were generally quite poor without him. If Ade got a long term injury we may as well forfeit the season rather than rely on Defoe/Kane, particularly w/o VDV.

I also don't understand why would consider selling VDV, even if it means bringing in Moutinho. That would leave us a squad with the only players likely to get more than 3-5 goals are Ade, Defoe (who's goals are generally unassociated with team play and is effectively invisible otherwise) , Sigurdsson, and Bale (who has generally hasn't scored after january the last two seasons). Vertonghen's probably the next likely after them!

I'm not really fan of Remy but he could be pretty useful in the RWF role / Ade's backup for #9. Our problem the last couple seasons has been being able to apply the finishing pass/shot after good approach play, I think selling VDV and just bringing in Moutinho and Dembele could make that even worse. Wish we were selling Defoe to get Llorente instead of selling VDV to (possibly) get Moutinho.

I can live without VDV.

I get the feeling he's happiest being the big fish in a small pond.

That was fine here when Harry consistently built his team around him and never dropped him, but now if he stays he's likely to be in rotation. He wouldn't like that. Thing is, since he came, he's had plenty of glorious moments but I feel his role has been to the detriment of the team. He had to take all free-kicks and corners; they were often shit. He had to play in a floating second striker role, this prevented Modric playing further forward.

So anyway: Thanks for the goals, the memories and your passion but farewell to the ego and the set-pieces.

Depends if we are going to keep GDS I imagine. I seem to remember ITK saying Villas-Boas rates GDS.

I'd give GDS another season, personally. He should find some matches, and if AVB does really rate him, he might get a decent amount of run outs.

He's got talent, I think just a lot of us have been waiting so long for him to look like the Mexican National Team GDS and not the shitbird Tottenham GDS.

That, and at some point in the season we have to expect to lose Bale or Lennon for a game or more, so having GDS and Townsend as the cover makes sense even though we all wish we would do better via a transfer.

I disagree. While I agree our set pices has been shit it seemed they weren't a focus of our traning sessions either. I'm also struggling to think of what better alternatives we had for set pieces. When Adebayor came he started taking our pens, and apart from a couple of failed Kaboul freekicks I can't really see what other alternatives we had, apart from VDV.

About the Modric part, Modric and VDV worked great together. How you think VDV prevented Modric from doing anything is a mystery to me. Modric was our most influential player from the CM spot.

His value won't drop considerably after another season of suck, and if he looks good, it only helps us and builds his value given his age.

Considering this is the last year of his contract, actually his value will drop to zero.

Well its going to be pretty shite if we sell VDV and don't land Moutinho - the whole balance of our window results in this action.

No Moutinho and we had better be keeping Rafa - its that simple for me.

You just can't sell your two best players (and they were by the way) and attempt a patch up job - with a disgruntled new manager who feels he hasn't now been backed, and task him with the goal of reaching the top 4.

That's not reality.
