The thing is I really dont think there was one AVB signing made this summer.

I didnt want Harry sacked and everyone thought that Levy wil buy the players again when he brings in AVB. He brought in AVB and the players he wanted havent really been brought.

I actually feel sorry for AVB. He will carry the can if performances are shit. He will carry the can if the results are shit. He will carry the can if we dont improve on last summer.

We're going to need someone to step up into the creative midfield position now whether it's Dembele, Hudd, or Carroll.

I'd be tempted to recall Massimo Luongo from his loan and give him Europa league/ cup games.

I just don't understand how it went from Moutinho being agreed and wanting to come here to it collapsing? Surely we had an idea of wage demands. I smell an agent.

I don't think personal terms were ever a problem. I get the impression we never actually agreed a fee

Where's the improvement on last years squad? Simple as that

All like for like signings...

Let's see;

Goalkeeper - Lloris is hardly "like for "like" and it is laughable you would say so. Lloris world class - improved.
Fullback - same, maybe less depth.
Centreback - lost King, Bassong, Nelsen, gained Vertonghen. Bassong and Nelsen were surplus, King retired. We did pretty well, Vertonghen may not be King but considering King missed so much game time through injury, I'd say this is an area where we've largely stayed the same - we have an acceptable number now, not too many.

Midfield - weakened, but better depth and players to suit the 4-3-3. We have to be patient and put stock that these youngsters can get it done.

Wingers - cover that was never used gone, Dempsey in - improved.
Strikers - We lose Saha but gain Dempsey. Otherwise it's the same, except Adebayor is now on a permanent - improved.

I'd say across the park the squad has improved, but we are definitely going to miss VDV and Modric. But, always take the good with the bad; we have two new good young midfielders, and there's always January.

We also have a manager than has a plan.
I believe that he can put together a team stronger than last years even IF man for man the players at his disposal are not of equal quality.

-----------------------------------Lloris---------------------------------
Walker-------------Kaboul------------------Vertonghen-----------BAE
----------------------------------Sandro--------------------------------
------------------------Dembele------------Gylfi------------------------
---Lennon/Dempsey------------Adebayor----------------------Bale---

That's not a bad starting XI in any way but still lacks depth and if Demele gets injured who do we use? Livermore? Jenas? I hope the talk about Huddlestone leaving on a loan isn't true because he will probably be needed this year.

I'm happy that Daws looks to be staying.

You want to take Kaboul out of that starting XI until the New Year.

Seems like POTL and Roger Morgan keep their crowns this window. The others info has been decidedly dodgy.

I just don't get the positivity. Decent signings but most were inferior replacements for what we had.

Anyway, bedtime. Norwich to beat tomorrow. COYS.

happy with the signings & the 3 today are all steals, but once rafa left at lunchtime thanks to previous itk i'd convinced myself that we had Mouts in the bag.I just feel we havent replaced the glue that Luca gave us, and the creativity that Rafa did, and they were the only genuine world class players we had, That said AVB has still got, injuries permitting, a quality squad to deal with, and when Kaka signs in 2 hours time *memo to DL we must get a new fax machine, we'll all feel up for it tomm, Cheers Rob & Mods, its been special x

tbf he called Lloris all along when JJ was rubbishing the idea for weeks, the duty free arrived a few weeks late

He gets rid of some of his sources and only posts sober he will be a top itk
Bollocks! He laid it on the line too many times! Willian & Moutinho were already signed according to him.

i'm looking forward to hearing from POTL and JJ so we can get the view from the club on how they think the transfer window went.
I feel sorry for AVB a bit though - If he is expected to get 4th with our squad then Levy is having a laugh.

So our first 11 will look something like;

Lloris - Walker - Vert - Kaboul - BAE - Sandro - Dembele - Dempsey - Bale - Lennon - Ade

is that really a leap forward on;

Friedel - Walker - Gallad - Kaboul - BAE - Sandro - Modric - VDV - Bale - Lennon - Ade ???

Nope!!

and our bench is weaker now

Friedel - Gallas - Livermore/Parker - Naughton - Townsend - Defoe - Sig

i hate to be negative i really do - but this hasn't been the transfer window we needed. I can't understand why they haven't concerntrated on the bloody gaps in the squad again!

We needed a quality player to rotate with lennon and bale - Another proper forward and quite possibly a modric replacement.

Looking at the players only it was a good window...just not what we needed to move forward!

Adam Johnson, woukd surely have been perfect for us? Berbatov went for £4million and the gaping hole left by Luka??
Not a great window.
Happy with Verts and Lloris however

Val, in all seriousness when you weigh it all up its not great. Modric and VDV, both of them leaving - that's a monumental gap of quality to fill.

Its not a complete disaster obviously, but Moutinho should of got done given the desire of the player to come and AVB's desperation to get him in, and then when you assess who's been sold.

AVB has my complete backing no matter what happens, because I don't believe he's been truly backed given what's been ripped out of the squad.
Completely agree. I thought that AVB had to sacrifice VDV to make Moutinho happen, now is hasn't we have egg on our faces.
