I think a rational post-mortem definitely needs to be conducted over Spurs' approach to transfers. We're not short of other clubs Chairmans/Managers airing their views.

I get this Steve, I've been saying all along how we need brains to replace Modric, when VDV went this morning I thought we'd get Mouts done I really did. All week I've been saying how we needed to keep VDV, I think we could also have gone after Benayoun maybe too. It concerns me, I'm sat here a bit glum to be honest with you - though I remember thinking how I'd never see a player like Berba again for the forseeable future, then I got Modric and VDV soon after. We'll see what happens under AVB and we will build from there, I like that the club seems to be set up for longevity now, the new stadium, the youth set up, the new training facility.

It's just this whining neurosis of some Spurs fans that does my head in, that Levy only cares about the balance sheet - which to me is bullshit, we are a club set up for the long term future, not just Norwich tomorrow. We'll be fine.

I hear you shelfie, and you're certainly one of the more balanced and rationale posters on here mate, believe me you are - and you know your onions.

But I just think we might be ok, it wouldn;t surprise me if we score more goals this season and our better off the ball - proving to be more effective overall without being as easy on the eye.

I agree we need that craft and intelligence to get the ball moving up field quickly, taking it off the CBs and using it well, recycling etc I still think Dembele can do this to a degree, I've watched a lot of him and his defensive work on top of that could make him a very important player for us this season - in a partnership with Sandro/Parker.

Ultimately Modric and VDV out in one full swoop is hard to get the head around, it really is. However I still think AVB could do well with this sqaud, we look more powerful looking that;s for sure - wouldn't surprise me at all if we score more direct sort of goals and excel on the road.

I'd rather discuss things with the rational people (and there's only one good poster on that list which is too bad but necessary) than argue with people I detest. If I wanted to argue with idiots, I'd go to RAWK or Blue Moon. Ignore is the single greatest tool on this site.

I guess you're right. Good way to avoid heated arguments as well.

I, for one, am quite optimistic. I think Dempsey will prove to be a good signing and we will do well. We are a lot more of a solid physical looking unit this time round. We won't be getting teams like Stoke coming and getting away with their strong arm tactics. Also, we have a more intimidating look about us now. Some real battlers in the side, Sandro, Dempsey Dembele, Parker. We may not be as fluid to start with but we will be tougher. The playing style will come soon after.

If the shit hits the fan this season, if we start playing shit and go back to mid table (or worse, but I dont see it myself). I hope nobody gets on AVB's case about it. This season might be one of transition. We may need to give it over to letting AVB 's ideas and style work its way through the club. He wanted one player above all others and if we got him, then this season would have been one of high expectation, but DL didn't deliver. It has been obvious to us, AVB has made it obvious to DL, there should be no excuses. Moutinho was integral to AVB's plan for the season.

DL should get the shit. But only about the transfers, no witch hunt, screaming for his head, shouting out, out, out. We 'aint got Venky's in charge! So the only thing we have to complain about is this transfer shit.

Oh theres so much that I want to say but I cant get all the thoughts in to a coherant way of writting them so I will end here. One last thing. DL is, a good chairman. He did all this with the best intrests of the club at heart. Why would he do otherwise? he has just fucked up. Royally I know. Everything else about his work is absolutely top class, just his transfer method is flawed from what I can read in to it. I want to state here that I rate him and thank him for what he has done for us and really appriciate it. One thing though. I think it is clear he needs to revise his policy on transfers and not get so involved himself.

Sahin didn't want to join us - he joined Liverpool because they were paying higher wages than Arsenal for the duration of the loan
Not according to JJ apparently earlier in the window he agreed to join and AVB vetoed the deal and then I think he got the hump when we went back

seems we are destined to never have a world class striker and destined for Europa again this season

what happened to all the so called investment money and stadium naming rights money ?

there was no investment this window as we made a profit and that seems to be the priority

We have just signed Fulhams best two players from the last two seasons. Has anyone taken notice as to how the link up together? I for one haven't if i'm honest but i'm hoping they have forged a decent understanding between one another and if so that could be vital for us. Has anyone noticed their link up play?
Yeah I'll get you a link I read today, it was really positive

It's worth noting that every outside source I've seen so far, from the Guardian football blog to Arsenal fansites, have basically been saying it's been a good window for us and that we've strengthened. All this ITK stoking beliefs that we are DEFINITELY 100% get Moutinho etc clearly distort our perspective and expectations.

Also worth pointing out that many Spurs fans are happy with our window. We spend so much time on here and reading 'ITK' and get excited about potential superstar signings that we get disappointed when they don't come off and we sign so called 'lesser' players.

In my pub this evening there was a table of guys that I know are mostly Spurs fans, I know they don't use forums and lo and behold when I told them that we had signed Dempsey they were delighted, basically ignorance is bliss. If they had followed the Mouts epic over the last few months in the detail we have and not just the little snippets in the press then Dempsey would be a let down but for them it's a great signing.

Bloody right, I think some forget how good this guy was last season. He's 29 as well, so still got a good two/three seasons at the very top level left in him.

He works like fuck as well, he'll fit AVB's pressing requirements and off the ball duties. I like him, I really do. Think he's going to play behind Ade with Siggy on the bench, and at times he may play the right forward role if we go down that route.

But playing behind Ade, we are going to have a serious aerial threat in the box now when Bale whips in a ball.

I think we'll score more goals this season, might not be as easy on the eye but could well prove more effective - offensively and defensively.

Yes! He's also very good in the air, something we've been lacking.

http://www.dailystar.co.uk/football/view/270060/Martin-J0l-blasts-Tottenham/?

MARTIN JOL blasted Tottenham’s approach to the transfer window which has left him short of firepower ahead of his team’s visit to Upton Park.

Star signing Dimitar Berbatov completed his £4m move to Fulham from Manchester United too late to be involved in today’s trip to West Ham.

But Dutchman Jol insists his side still remain a force, despite the departure of key man Moussa Dembele after Tottenham finally triggered a £15m release clause in his contract.

Jol said: “Look at Spurs, always waiting until the last couple of days, and we’ve suffered because of that.

“That was probably the reason I was a bit annoyed when we played Sheffield Wednesday in midweek.

“I don’t like that – to lose your best players – but Spurs work like that. They came up with the money and we had to react.”

The thing is if you have players with release clauses you can't get shitty when clubs match the fee. The timing isn't great for Fulham but surely they must realise they could be subject to that at any point of the transfer window.
