What I don't understand on their first goal is where Naughton was going. We had just scored, had an away goal, were ahead in the tie, had silenced te crowd, so why was he taking off? Why not sit for a few minutes, kill the tempo rather than opening up a gap they exploited.

I hope the players learn a lot from tonight because our lack of sophistication at times hurt us and we were punished.
How was that goal Naughton's fault. It started on the right, moved through the centre so lay the blame in those two sectors and at Dembele's feet the most.

Who?
The fact that Rose went on loan and Naughton stayed says something. Naughton has played LB a lot. Rose is a LW. Naughton was actually more of a threat than BAE when he came on

Rose went on loan as he wanted to play. It was getting to a sell or loan for him.
He has played at least the last 2 seasons as a LB, so not as a LW. He has also played well at LB as well, just not sure he is good enough to be a regular LB for us, and he wont stay around to be back up

In pieces.... Distraught! And so on and so on....

However, other thank the Dembelle substitution was a little questionable I think we set up and played to the strengths we had as a team tonight... The spirit towards the end was nothing but coragious!

That's the game out of the way now the reason for my thread!

AVB went from a man that I like and want to do well to one that I respect and feel will do well and can see how he is getting the best out of players like Lennon, Bale, Dawson etc.

He was so dignified and eluded to all the positives didn't dwell on the sending in fact steered the reporter away from it. Highlighted how we have took this compition seriously and that proved we can do well in this comp and in the league and that tottenham as a club have done the country and the club proud! I mean he even spoke clearly!

Well done lads and now lets do what all really want anyway which is finish above the scum and play in champions league next season!

It was a brilliant speech. It says much about him as a person in the same way that Sugar's constant sniping says so much about about the gimp.

not sure why friedel is getting a ribbing. I thought all Basle's pens were excellent. Ours were poor. That's why we lost. I doubt Lloris would have saved those.

This is a true story. I remember missing a Pen in an important school cup final once in front of a large crowd, it was possibly the worst pen ever, real bad, worse than Ade's.

What did I do? I looked to the sky and smiled, had a little chuckle. I dunno why I did this, at the time I had a million things running through my mind and desperately trying not to burst into tears I guess, and I'm not sure I was completely in control of what I did. I think also I was partly having a conversation with myself, like 'fucking hell, how did I manage to do that?' Guess it was my way of coping and trying not to let it deflate me.

I'm not sure what point I'm trying to make here, I guess that until you're in that situation you don't know how you are going to react. As I said there's a million and one reactions and things going on in your head and different people react in different ways. Some are overly devastated, some tough it out, some try and brush it off. To me he seemed to half grin and show his face, but for a split second. He didn't walk away laughing. It was probably just one of the number of thoughts/emotions, plus (I assume he does give a shit) trying to cope with it.

You're a disgrace to your school, I hope they immediately expelled you.

Are you serious?

Who is Rose? The same Rose who is Sunderland's player of the season, despite the fact that their defence is one of the worst in the league?

Rose is not a LW, he is a LB. he is left footed, and has played two full seasons at LB. Naughton is a RB and has played around 6 games at LB.

I tell you what though, how about we learn to defend set pieces? Atrocious all season. It seems to be that the opposition always get a run on our guys at the front post. How many did we have in the proximity for that goal tonight yet we still get skanked? Its got to improve.

Really.... Arsenal have a game in hand and seem to have found a rhythm.

We are stuttering and our best players are injured.

We have had a great season considering, but we are fucked now. Mainly because Levy has fucked us once again in the transfer windows.
It's lack of squad depth, same as it was last year. Everyone was on here last year banging on about Redknapp not rotating etc, rotate to who exactly, we had no depth last year and we have none this year. It's not about the first team players, they're fine it's about the 5/6 squad players we haven't had in 3 seasons or so. Take Bale, Lennon, Defoe, Adebayor ( yes even this season ) out and we have very little to replace them with. The drop off in quality between our first team and squad is huge, we don't need to spend £30m odd on a striker, we need 5x6m youngish players who can come in and actually fill a gap when needed then take over in two years time.

Agreed on the penalties.

Can't help but feel that we'd have looked a better team throughout the Europa League with Lloris in goal though.

What a shame really feel for the lads after all that effort thought we deserved to go through,I was expecting to lose by at least 2 goals... Good effort all around COYS
Expecting to lose for Basel ? a club from the Swiss football league ? come on....we should have knocked them easily in both matches....shame on us....

I'm extremely proud of our boys tonight. Gylfi, Walker, Holtby, Parker even little Tommy Carroll stood out for me tonight. Gutted to go out that way but we can fault their spirit throughout the 120 mins. Daws, Dempsey and Parker's lack of technical ability showed but they gave everything. With mentioning the complete shit up front.......I LOVE U TOTTENHAM!

Just coz he looks so slow and heavy in those penalty situations, like a really poor Bull where the matador barely moves he's cape and he's off down the shops.

And that push out from the "corner" was a bit weak.

When did Rose last actually play LW for either us or Sunderland? He's probably played most of his games for us at LB. Sunderland fans reckon he's been their best player this season (I know the rest of their team is shit, but still...)

We had the same complaints of Rose as we do of Naughton. Don't give me that crap. Naughton is a solid player on a par with Rose. Norwich were desperate to keep him. The "give him the boot" line gets tossed around here way too much. The likes of Fletcher, Anderson, O'shea wwould have been out long ago at Spurs. It's called having a squad
