He wanted to continue but we correctly chose to sub him off. He was clearly groggy.

We messed up the paperwork and didn't sub him off as a concussion sub though.
Ok… I totally misunderstood the scenario based on dipping in & out of the game. The commentators appeared to be somewhat surprised at the decision… then switched & suggested it was positive ti have swapped him
Edit. @dontcallme just saw motd highlights. Had no idea Romero had clashed heads earlier to goal

A few years ago when Redknapp was here we drew with the Scum 3-3 at the Lane. Now usually when we play that lot I can't sit down , my nerves and hatred are all over the place but on that day it was such an amazing game of football it's almost like the result was irrelevant. I was just proud my team could play that way

And that almost like I feel today.

Look if wasn't perfect and I missed the last 10 as I had to work but what an absolute breath of fresh air that was. The team fought like mad, were so brave on the ball and dominated it like I've yearned for .

Were rough round the edges but the future is bright very bright

As for performances. Vicario looked nervous but showed potential and Udogie and VDV were excellent. Maddison ran the show and big Dav did well in defence but clumsy on the ball

I don't like Kulu in that role. He can't go outside and lacks the pace it needs. Sonny was just like last year and that disappointed me but hopefully he just isn't fully fit.

Emerson was my biggest worry. I can see why some people liked the performance but on the ball he just isn't good enough for that role, but I don't trust Porro at all at full back so I'm not sure what you can do Emerson worked his arse off and is so brave in the sense that he never gives up trying to do stuff but I felt he lacked technically in a crowded midfield area. Add that to Kulu not being able to beat his man and just coming inside all the time it leaves our right side pretty underwhelming.

As for Richy well that's a rough game for him to start. He is never going to be Harry kane but he can use his strengths to be a very effective striker up there although if I had my way I'd probably go all out for a winger and use Sonny in the role.

Feel very positive though.

I could echo lots that’s already been said, however all I’ll say is, the main positive for me?

For the first time in about four years, I’m really looking forward to our next game and sort of wishing it was tomorrow.

it’s nice to have a style of football again!
Would like to see the front three
Interchange a bit more though, Brentford defended deep , but Sonny and Deki as inverted wingers was too obvious cutting inside over and over again and it would have been good to see them switch it up a bit more to stretch Brentford to the by-line.

SC expecting a mastery of Ange’s system after a couple of friendlies. Jeez.

The system, particularly defensively, is going to take a few months to bed in. It’s been the same wherever he’s coached. We will concede goals from balls played in behind the fullbacks until they get the movement and cover locked in.

Same goes for Son, Richie and Kulu. Once they get to grips with Maddison’s eye for a pass the goals will come.
Ange needs to find a system to accomodate Sonny's best attributes. Son is best when running into space behind the opposing defenders. His pace would elude the last man and more often than not, he scored when one on one with the keeper. Today, there wasn't any space he could run into. In the past 3 seasons, Kane dropped deep and pinged a through ball for Son to lash on. As well, Son could put the ball on a plate for Kane to score. Afraid that Son hugging the touchline under Ange's system is not going to work well.

Lots of positives today - especially from the debutants.

Still think we've got a lot to see from Sonny. He got himself into some good positions in the final third today and on another day could have scored a couple.

Thought sanchez played well but imo he was at fault for the equaliser

Why did he not go tight on wissa for his goal ?

Thoughts on the game.
I thought we played a good game overall considering the opponent. Brentford are very good at home and it was definitely out of this weekend bar chelsea vs Liverpool probably the most difficult match up. We’ll have a lot more easier games. Still found we gave the ball away a few times I think the ref was very trigger happy with the yellows against us whereas Brentford got next to nothing.

Destiny at LB what a debut he really did well in that Berth and looks a danger if him and Sonny can get on the same wavelength that will be a killer side for us this year.

Emerson did well floating in to CM seems to be the new thing for the prem this year, arsenal played party at rb yesterday and well we all know how Trent AA plays.

bissouma is an absolute boss in CM can’t wait to see him and Bentancur in the centre together.

vicario unfortunately worries me a bit I hated Lloris coming out for the ball this guy on a completely different level. Jury well out on this guy atm.

sonny and Kulu - not sure what’s happened but many times Kulu had opp to have a crack and bottled it. Sonny just doesn’t want to take anyone on anymore. If these two can get back their confidence of 2 seasons ago we are on to a winner.

maddison good performance his yellow stopped him being more aggressive.

Richy - he just needs to be fed those balls and he’ll score bags he moved well was in the right places but never got anything brentford had moved to defence mode by HT.

overall not bad performance but at times we just held the ball but really did nothing with it I hope we get more creative as we learn Anges tactics and style of play

One thing that's jumping out at me from this, is why Skipp was so anonymous in the game.

He was sitting too deep and was taking up the positions that Royal is supposed to take up and so was competing for the ball with him, with Emerson coming out well on top.

I imagine Ange will be telling him to be braver next time and to trust the system and push forward, but the years playing as a DM for Conte and Mourinho will certainly have had a lasting impact on him and will take awhile to eradicate.

On today’s showing, obviously one game, our attack isn’t good enough

Something that bothered me a little was the lack of attacking intent toward the end. 1 minute left in stoppage time, and instead of attacking the goal like a pack of hungry lions, we initiated another safe backpass chain to our defence. Just looked like we were adhering to our methods more than desperately trying to win.

Not a huge problem, we are a work in progress, but for me, if we're going to challenge for trophies, our squad must have a win-at-all-costs mentality. An insatiable hunger to win every game and no tolerance for losing or drawing. This was the biggest key to SAF's success at Manchester United, especially in his later years. Even with less glamorous squads, no fancy tactics and some ancient players, they always had a fierce drive to win. Opposition teams would always feel this unnerving pressure and helplessness, losing their willpower to attack and desperately trying to cling onto their precious point.

Maybe once we have got to grips with the style of play this could be a thing. Would have been devastating to the club concede at the last minute goal after the week we’ve had. Postecoglou will be more daring, but that doesn’t make him stupid. A point will do for now.

Weaker teams are going to play like Brentford a lot this season so we definitely need to come up with some alternative ideas to bring the front 3 into play more.

Big Ange isn't going to tear up his life's work in order to get one player firing.

There will be games when teams come out to play us and Sonny will have his chance to shine.

We need to stretch the play wider go a bit more direct and pop a few long shots.

The other option is to use an aerial threat, (Maybe Veliz) can come off the bench.

Why wasn't he or Scarlett on the bench?

What I would say is that Brentford were one of the worst teams for us to play, in terms of styles. Low block, aggressive counter attack. The two attackers pace caused us problems.

It was almost like watching contes spurs v man city.

I was really please how we changed it at half time, took control of the game.

Brentford have an unbelievable home record and personally I was worried that 3-5-2 was the worst system to play against in our first game, given the new role for the full backs (and 2 young debutants in the back 4).

But we looked great; yes it’s not perfect and things can and will be worked on but we dominated possession and, most importantly, every player knew what they should be doing. I was expecting much more confusion but I can’t recall any.

Mentality needs a mention too. 2-1 down (including unfair penalty), home crowd were up, we were under a bit of pressure but everyone stayed calm and we got the equaliser. Then 2nd half we controlled the game.

Seriously impressive for game 1 against a team that utterly smashed Man Utd at the same point in Ten Hag’s tenure……
