Tell you what: Basel are better than us

I know. Fucking shocking right?

But suck it up. Unfashionable they may be but they are a good side. No shame losing to them, particularly on penalties after going down to 10 men

When did Rose last actually play LW for either us or Sunderland? He's probably played most of his games for us at LB. Sunderland fans reckon he's been their best player this season (I know the rest of their team is shit, but still...)
The Sunderland who just got their manager booted out and are fighting off relegation. What a resume!

We had the same complaints of Rose as we do of Naughton. Don't give me that crap. Naughton is a solid player on a par with Rose. Norwich were desperate to keep him. The "give him the boot" line gets tossed around here way too much. The likes of Fletcher, Anderson, O'shea wwould have been out long ago at Spurs. It's called having a squad
Naughton is on par with Rose?

LOL ok. Ok buddy

not sure why friedel is getting a ribbing. I thought all Basle's pens were excellent. Ours were poor. That's why we lost. I doubt Lloris would have saved those.

Correct, but I'm willing to bet my house that Lloris would've come out to prevent their 'corner' for the second goal.

Because apparantly slating Freidel is just a bit of fun, but slating Ade is not allowed.

Alan Sugar thinking that he has some grasp on tactics is the best example I've seen of delusion.

Appologies to all tonight for some of my angry and over the top reactions, whilst its no excuse have had a very tough week at work (company decided they want to cut my wages by 9 grand), after a few drinks was just a way of releasing some of the pressure i've been under.
As for the football, i think looking back the most frustrating thing is we came so close to going through, as I've already said, i think Kyle Walker was brilliant tonight after coming in for some stick in recent games, Carroll and Holtby were fairly tidy and Dempsey had a good game, carrying a threat all game. I don't think we deserved to go through as they were techincally very good throughout and played with better movement than us.
Thanks to Brad for what hes done at spurs (guessing baring injury he won't play again and also to gallas for what they have done in taking us on towards a club that is challenging for a top 4 spot. I do feel the squad is weaker than last year, we lack the techincal players of VdV and modric but they were always going to be tough to replace.

Anyone got all the goals and pens on video?

From a still photo it looks like Hudd put his pen in the best place possible for a keeper to save. Keeper diving to his right is keepers best way for him and if the ball is a couple of feet or so off the ground it's perfect for right sided keepers to save.

Europa League is our level then? We should get used to it imo as we won't get 4th, yes I'm a pessimist right now!

Just gutted and frustrated right now, made even worse by the fact that Chelsea are in the semis. Just no karma in football when it comes to Tottenham.

How was that goal Naughton's fault. It started on the right, moved through the centre so lay the blame in those two sectors and at Dembele's feet the most.

I understand the role Dembele, Friedel, etc played in the goal. Watch it again and ask yourself where Naughton was going. Had he stayed he could have tracked the scorer. Not his fault in the build up but why the urgency to take off when we had just scored. Naive.

I tell you what though, how about we learn to defend set pieces? Atrocious all season. It seems to be that the opposition always get a run on our guys at the front post. How many did we have in the proximity for that goal tonight yet we still get skanked? Its got to improve.

We've been beaten a lot at the front post. Players are standing and waiting for the ball instead of attacking it. Off the top of my head I can think of Arsenal's goal at the lane, Lyon away and twice against Basle. Spurs player in front but standing, opposition player goes to the ball and gets there first, gets a flick and either scores themselves or provides an assist. Needs to be sorted, other teams must have noticed it.

Definitely, we had just scored, keep it tight for a bit and keep the crowd quiet, the attack was down the right so he had no need to be where he was bombing up the pitch, it's not like we keep the ball like Barca.
