Gutted we are out, but Basel deserved the win. The players gave their all. We played without Kaboul, Lloris, Sandro, Bale, Lennon and Defoe. All would start if healthy (or gentlemans agreement in Friedel). We lost to a good side on penalties with our reserve-team. Now lets buy Salah as cover on the wings, sell Ade and get a good and hungry striker in and we could get a good run next year as well. All in all a good season, and we are still going for 4th with 6 games to go. I would NEVER have thought that before this season.

A lot of loan players being mentioned, but I honestly think that if we had Townsend to bring on he would have made a huge impact. We tried hard tonight but never really showed any class. Don't want to be too negative but we were playing Basel, they are going to get well and truly turned over in the semi's. Too much reliance on bale to produce a bit of magic has cost us. The players that played tonight are well able to play football and break teams down but we seem to be unwilling to try anything without bale. At least Gilfi tried to get around his man every chance he got, I felt he was often left isolated because the rest of our players didn't support him high enough up the field.

I understand the role Dembele, Friedel, etc played in the goal. Watch it again and ask yourself where Naughton was going. Had he stayed he could have tracked the scorer. Not his fault in the build up but why the urgency to take off when we had just scored. Naive.

Your spot on but sadly we don't learn, our defence bombing on in Milan when we had a 3 nil lead was exactly the same story, we seem to only be able to play one way, losing to Basel is no embarassment, good side and we ran them very close with what has been a bad season for injuries, for me we lost our best 3 players for a good proportion of the season.

Also, I know it's the unpopular vote I'd rather we win the EL than get 4th. We're never winning the CL, it's just not gonna happen unless we get some arab billions. But when you get to the qf of a european trophy against a team that are not european giants you have to have high hopes of going through.

We've only won 2 league cups and 1 fa cup since i've been old enough to support us, would have loved to seen us competing for this trophy in Amsterdam in May. Even though I hate what Uefa have done with the name and format it was our only realistic chance of silverwear.

Appologies to all tonight for some of my angry and over the top reactions, whilst its no excuse have had a very tough week at work (company decided they want to cut my wages by 9 grand), after a few drinks was just a way of releasing some of the pressure i've been under.
As for the football, i think looking back the most frustrating thing is we came so close to going through, as I've already said, i think Kyle Walker was brilliant tonight after coming in for some stick in recent games, Carroll and Holtby were fairly tidy and Dempsey had a good game, carrying a threat all game. I don't think we deserved to go through as they were techincally very good throughout and played with better movement than us.
Thanks to Brad for what hes done at spurs (guessing baring injury he won't play again and also to gallas for what they have done in taking us on towards a club that is challenging for a top 4 spot. I do feel the squad is weaker than last year, we lack the techincal players of VdV and modric but they were always going to be tough to replace.

well written mate!! Love to see the feelings. Totaly agree with u. A loss of those 2 great players havent been replaced. We need one or two central players that can put some tempo on the ball and pick out the key passes. Holtby can become one of those. Dembele is a great player but i think i lackes in passing skills. Havent seen him put a key pass and have it really hard to make one touch passes with tempo... That is a problem and i dont know how we should handle it. Dont think u can have a player that not are able to make those easy passes..

Must admit, I was coming round to this. I hate the way football is going/gone

So AVB committed to playing his best available starting XI for the majority of the Europa League. Where has that got us? A tired squad, our best player injured, and no silverware.... goes to prove that Harry was right!!

Should have stuck to playing a second string team in the Europa League and kept our key players fresh for the Premier League campaign instead.

We'll finish 5th in the league this year behind Arsenal in 3rd and Chelsea in 4th.

Bale will be gone in the summer.

Levy will mess around in the transfer market as usual but fail to deliver as usual. Blue & Yellow, yeah right....

I've been a season ticket holder for the last 8 seasons and I'm fed up with the same old excuses year in, year out. Levy engineered the departure of the best manager we had in the last 25 years because he never trusted Harry and he never believed that Harry fitted his description of a modern day football manager. Now he has AVB who was found out at Chelsea - and who'llbe found out at Spurs within the next 6-9 months. We have a reducing squad which has too many players which are simply not good enough to play regularly for a 'top 3' team - Gallas, Assou-Ekotto, Adebayor, Dempsey, Lennon (yes, completely overrated & overhyped by Spurs fans), Huddlestone, Defoe, Livermore, Friedel... not good enough.

What I'd give for a Berbatov or Modric in their prime... that was before Levy sold them and replaced them with players of a much lesser quality, but that's our beloved chairman's definition of a 'good deal'.

It's the long game though.

Winning the Europa League gets us nothing in terms of long term development.

Regular appearances in the Champions League gets us more exposure, money and pull for better players meaning we can actually move towards challenging at a higher level.

I should add that I hate that UEFA have made the Europa League so pointless, but it's basically the Capital One cup of Europe.

All said and done we made a good show, I think we could/should have made the semis if not the finals on paper but reality is a very sobering thing sometimes. Maybe this is just not our season, all said and done we have a weaker squad then last season, we have been hit hard by injurys at the wrong time and have had yet another fluffed trasnfer window/windows by Levy, all this with a new manager at the helm. If anything our inspiring run of forum over the winter may have given us a slight feeling of false expectancy. Not that I am suggestion we should not be aiming for fourth or higher but taking all the facts into consideration, weather we finish 3,4 or 5, we have had a great season and should be proud of the team and the management. All I would say that it is now up to Levy to finally, FINALLY, strengthen our squad where it is truly needed and hold on to Bale for at least one more season so we can truly step up next year which I completely believe we will if a little more financial faith invested in the team by the ownership. Well done to the mighty, mighty Spurs, you did us proud tonight!

If all spurs fans send Levy a tenner, think we could afford a decent striker?
Great idea - Personally I think Levy is doing a good job in advancing the club but he obviously needs some sort of message that states the bleeding obvious with regards to the lack of a decent striker. Maybe a tongue-in-cheek tenner in the post to WHL might do the trick!

What The Actual FFFFFFF

Some guy on TS complaining that when the camera goes on AVB in ET all he's doing is barking out instructions??? Are you serious?? Is this the type of fans we have going to WHL?

Incredible

And so it should.

Messi missed a penalty that would have got Barcelona to last season's Champions League final. No doubt you'd have poured hatred on him, yes? Or is it just because you don't like Adebayor? Either way it's idiotic and petty.

We've been beaten a lot at the front post. Players are standing and waiting for the ball instead of attacking it. Off the top of my head I can think of Arsenal's goal at the lane, Lyon away and twice against Basle. Spurs player in front but standing, opposition player goes to the ball and gets there first, gets a flick and either scores themselves or provides an assist. Needs to be sorted, other teams must have noticed it.

I have to say it seems to be often Vertonghen who allows his man to get a run on him, plus the guy charged with defending that front post area (usually Bale, tonight was Sigurdsson), is not dominant enough and gets beaten to it as well. I agree, I'm sure teams are trying to target us.

So you're going to give it up then, Mr Optimism? I'd love a season ticket.

Oh god, where to start...

Perhaps i'll just leave it at: If you aren't interested in winning anything, maybe you should nip up the road and buy a season ticket at the Emirates instead. They're not bothered by all that frippery there.

I agree - it is idiotic and petty - and Adebayour should never be seen in a Spurs shirt again...but I've been saying that for 6 months now...so it's not new news from me - just a re-affirmation of how he can't be bothered - or thinks he is too cool and laid back for the Spurs shirt - whilst the other 10 work like dogs for the team.
He's a liabilty to this teams development and progress - he's possibly the worst striker of a ball I have ever seen in a Spurs forward line - yes he can hold the ball up blah blah blah - so could Crouch blah blah blah - He is not worthy of wearing the Cockerel on his heart and that pisses me off - however idiotic and petty that may seem to you.
