For bentley, gallas, livermore, naughton , huddlestone, gomes, khumalo, obika, mason, bryne + Defoe I reckon we'll get around 20m, not a great deal but loads off the wages.

Defoe scored 15 goals this season...english plus 3years more on his contract...i think we will get atleast 10m for him from any midtable club !! But i think important factor is wages here...If we can bring 6 quality players on those places, that will be good for us

Am I the only who really would like us to target Michu?

Someone will pay money for him in the Summer. Good money. He will then suffer from Second Season Syndrome and spend the rest of his days making up 2013/2014 Internet lists of "signing flops".

Getting Gallas, Bentley, Gomes off the wage bill would be enough to give Bale the contract he deserves. I'm just hoping that the £50m clause is not in the contact. That will easily be met by Real, PSG, Bayern and City

So bentley, gallas, livermore, naughton , huddlestone, gomes, khumalo, obika, mason, bryne are out ...Probadly along with parker and defoe if we can find good deals... Lot of players off the wage bill

The new Premier League rules come in next season whereby we are only allowed to increase our total wage bill by £4m + any increase in commercial/matchday revenues.

That's just an extra £80k per week to play with, and a big chunk of that will already be taken up by Bale's pay rise, so the more "deadwood" players we can shift the better. It's almost a one-for-one situation, ie if we want to bring in a player on say £100k per week, we can only accommodate that by simultaneously getting rid of players with wages totalling £100k per week.

Spurs were one of the four clubs who pushed for these new rules, and the cynic in me believes that Levy (knowing this was coming) may have kept a few extra players on the wage bill last season to allow us a bit more wriggle-room for signing players this summer.

That's the fear, if he has some sense he'll stay at Swansea and either repay their faith or grow as a player - instead of listening to a (possibly) greedy agent and struggle. Scott Sinclair should have done the same.

Big blow for us not getting Champions League then, as our commercial / matchday revenues would have really jumped unlike the usual Champions League clubs.

Am I the only who really would like us to target Michu? He brings versatility, and can do so much more than just score goals. He'd also give us a player who can attack crosses off corner. You could also play him alongside Bale and behind Adebayor, as well as a centre-forward in front of Bale and Lennon. I'd bring in Cabaye too, as I believe he has the technical ability to really turn a game upside down. I think those two turn us into title contenders. Keep Adebayor, dump Defoe, Dempsey, and Huddlestone.

Good technique, great in the air. Can play striker role and also as an advanced midfielder. No brainer as far as I am concerned. Could be our new Berbatov.

He would be my dream signing this window, much more so than the lumpen Brazilian we are forever chasing.

I dont think he will suffer from second season syndrome, you only have to watch him a couple of times to see he is not performing above his ability level. Class.

I wonder if part of this is linked with Bale trademarking his goal celebrations and other advertisments (Lucasaid etc).

Whilst the pay packet he recieves from Spurs might be lower than what he could get with say City, Chelsea perhaps we are prepared to give him free reign on his image rights.*

These rules wouldn't get voted in if Man City etc hadn't already figured out how to get around them.

*IIRC, CR9 transfer to Real was heavily subsidised by shirt sales and I whilst I think Levy is too shewd to not take his cut it could help circumvent the rules somewhat.

that's not the cynic in you, it's the escaped escapee from the lunatic asylum.

Levy paid more wages than he needed to, for an entire season..? You can see why I'm finding that tough to swallow, right?

Am I the only person getting concerned about the need to mints in our homegrown quota? Look at who we are releasing, and who the rumours/ITK suggest we are after, and the fact that very few of the academy players are getting an opportunity.

I'm sure the people in charge have it in hand.

Yes our match day revenues would increase, but then so would the bonuses and additional costs. That's not to say we would end up with a net profit, just not as much as one might think. There is the additional question that if you build in CL income into contracts every and you don't get it there are increasing financial problems.

In the PL (to have the max 25 man squad) you need to have 8 home grown players

This season our Home grown list was:
Bale , Bentley, Dawson, Defoe, Huddlestone, Jenas, Lennon , Livermore, Naughton, Parker, Sigurdsson, Walker .

If we get rid of Bentley, Hudd, JJ (Gone), Livermore and Naughton we still have 7 before adding any of the youngsters like Culker, Rose and Smith in. I think Carroll has another year before he is included into the 25 man squad

IIRC there was ITK yesterday that AVB was meeting DL & JL on Thursday to discuss the finances. The obvious impact of that being players to be bought.

Related issues will affect the decision they will make:

1. In September we opened a brand new state of the art training facility.
2. At the end of this year, or early next year we start building the new stadium.
3. We are, apparently, looking to sign a naming rights contract for the new stadium shortly.
4. Whoever gets that contract will want maximum publicity when it is signed and world class players will help in that respect.
5. We will be looking to move into a partially completed stadium in 2 or 3 years, with completion the following year.
6. To get CL the season after next we have to finish in the top 3 to guarantee a CL place the year after next.

The last point alone suggests that even allowing for a big clear out, as suggested, we will need the maney to sign the top strikers, and other players we need to achieve point 6. I see this as the natural progression from where we have got over the last 4 seasons and there is no other logical choice to make than to invest in players now.

Let's just hope DL & JL agree with the logic and get their wallets out! :cautious:
