That wasnt really the tone of his post though. More that he just thought that Qatar was more likely than BT
Fair enough, my mistake, hopefully WPD suggestion of potential big deal, is related to the stadium and things are really happening

Because when the theoretical capacity was 65k we only occasionally came close to meeting it.

Because empty seats look bad.

Because empty seats mean punters won't buy season tickets if they know they can turn up on the day.

Because Levy and his advisors have done their homework and you haven't.

We have a 36k capacity and it is sold out near enough all the time. We have a waiting list for season tickets that is 42k long.

That equals 78k and even if a few thousand didn't want to take up the option to renew, or take up a season ticket, the stadium would still be full up.

Picking hairs I know but I don't think it is the fact we wouldn't fill it as to why its a 56k stadium that's being built.

Take it from me - Levy is planning on a 60k+ stadium. Our budget doesn't allow for an increase in costs from 56k to 60k. He is working flat out to make the sums add up. He thought he had it at one point, but then things didn't go to plan. ( I won't go into that now ).
He has now gone to plan B.
But rest assured, the man is trying his best, and I'm sure he'll get there.

Had some cocky goon in work telling me we could borrow it Thursday nights, as they wouldnt be needing it  ..........so I told him yeah anytime they need their stadium selling out they shoud give us a call:)

Still in the process of buying up all the land aren't we? (well I say 'land', the metalworks).

Until that is sorted wouldn't expect any news about finance being sorted, that's if we are even that far down the road yet with this.

Not everything has been bought no. Revisions might mean another planning app (with capacity change), maybe a year for this to happen.. think we might be waiting a while for movement..

It's about filling it for every single match, not just the Category A games. Juventus did exactly the same thing with their new stadium when deciding to make it 40k - pack the stadium every single match of the season and get the atmosphere ramped up to 11 even against tiny teams.

40k is going to be the same in a 60k stadium as a 40k one

Au contraire, it's all about the acoustics! Remember that all sound is really is a pressure wave moving through the air, any empty pockets of space are going to affect that wave. You pack a stadium to the rafters and get everyone singing and you create a wall of noise, a massive wall of air pressure moving one way - towards the pitch. If you leave 1/3 of it empty then you're leaving space for that noise to bounce around in and be deflected or reduced in power rather than be directed correctly.

Aren't we planning to replicate the Yellow Wall of Borussia Dortmund though and designing the acoustics so that the immense noise reverberates around the ground?

That would mitigate some of the problems when Stoke come to town

Someone show me a season ticket list of 42 thousand. It doesn't exist.

Not exactly big news but I believe that Tottenham sainsbury's is closing over the summer (probably July) so I'd imagine the new one will be open the day after the current one closes. While it doesn't effect us directly it'll be a nice sign of progress and it'll be nice seeing something new for a change

Might not be that quick camaj, the framework is up but I can't see them kitting it all out by july.

Those two things are kinda separate. The single stand is to create a "wall of sound" - a single large plane of sound like a massive human-powered speaker stack . The stadium as a whole is supposed to keep as much sound inside as possible which will involve reflecting the sound inwards from above and probably behind, and reducing the number of surfaces that could create interference. That's all directed and planned though, rather than unplanned empty space within the ground.

Also if you want to be cynical you could argue that there only being 56k seats with a much higher demand will increase the image of exclusivity, thus allowing the club to ramp up the prices.

That's odd. 3 home games came up this season where I couldn't even give mine away - and I asked over a dozen people on the ST list. How weird is that??

The two things aren't related, so that isn't weird at all. I assume you are a season ticket holder, but couldn't make tha games? By your logic that means you don't want to be a season ticket holder??

Ps, hopefully stub hub will resolve this.

The suggestion that we have 48,000 people waiting on a list ready and willing to immediately commit to a season ticket at the first possible opportunity is absolute cobblers and a PR line spun by the club. We have 48,000 people who've paid the extra fiver a year or whatever it is to have a bronze membership, rather than a lilywhite one. Among the extra benefits of a bronze membership, are a free annual handbook, and the entitlement to a place on the season ticket waiting list. A significant number of those will have no interest in buying a season ticket, won't have the money, or in many cases won't even live in this country. It's a huge stretch of the truth to suggest we have 48,000 people waiting to buy a season ticket.
