I'd quite like McManaman as long as it's no more than £6m, he's still a bit raw but he was impressive at the end of last season. The only thing that concerns me is that Bernard plays in the same position, hopefully it's only a plan B or C.

i think he's much better on the ground than you give him credit for and certainly better than dzeko.

I think Dzeko is better on the ground than you are giving him credit for. Dzeko sees more ball in games than Benteke does. He gives the ball away less than Benteke. He assists more per minute. Creates more clear cut chances per minute. You think Benteke more intelligent footballer than Dzeko ? Why/how ?

I would have said your argument is back to front. Benteke is possible a more no nonsense finisher and has a better conversion rate than Dzeko.

For me Dzeko given a first team spot regularly has everything we need. He's got good feet, is intelligent, can hold up the ball and create chances for others but can also score all manner of goals, including having a bit of finesse.

The other thing about this target is that it's typical Spurs. Talk of Damiao, Damiao . . . sign the less exciting Saha. Talk of Moutinho, Moutinho . . . sign Dempsey. Talk of Bernard, Bernard . . . sign the more attainable again in the shape of McManaman.

I don't mean to say they're not good players, but it's often what we end up with after the intial buzz and excitement of being linked to a foregin star

Mcmannaman isn't exciting but Lloris was an exciting signing as was Vertonghen. The board do need to pull something out the bag this window though. They sold 2 top class players in VDV and Modric and for all the noise about Willian and Moutinho, none of Siggy, Dempsey, Dembele or Holtby are in the same class and will ultimately just soak up the wage budget like Jenas and Kranjcar and the like used to. There is no substitute for class. This club doesn't understand that though.

not sure about that. mcmanaman so far has looked like an orthodox lively right winger who likes to beat the full back, bernard(admittedly only from youtube) plays on the let, cuts in and creates.

I went to Brookfields today to do a bit of shopping (my local tesco) and I saw a lady collecting donations for the Samaritans. I dropped a fiver in the bucket and said "that's for the 31st of August" she said "I don't know what you mean" I looked at her and dropped another fiver in the bucket and as I walked off I said "please don't mention the letters SC together on any of your calls after the 31st of August"

Just reading the last few posts I think I should have left more in the bucket.........might pop back up tomorrow (y)

Watching McManaman in the run in last year, he seems to be in the right place to make something happen, but just tends to not do anything, bar beat his man, beat him again, then try and beat him again...

Has pace and a trick or two, but not much in the way of tacital nous, and we've already got a winger of that description. But if AVB wants him...

No thanks on Mcmanaman, think Wigan will try to ask for a stupid price and he's too raw for me. Not saying he might not turn out a good player in the end. Don't see him as much of an upgrade on Andros tbh. Not very pleasing to hear this given it would suggest Bernard might not be on.

What worries me about mcmanaman is having to listen to a scouser in a spurs shirt...can't remember ever hearing one before.

Don't worry he's an Evertonian. It'll make it a little more bearable, and perhaps he might get along well with Holtby as a result.

Good player but I want Townsend to get some game time.

I'm inclined to go with this. Townsend did for QPR what McManaman did for Wigan, I reckon they're about the same level.

I just think with potentially Villa, Bernard & now McManaman signing we could have way too many wingers/forwards. If we signed 2 of those I think at least one of our current wingers/forwards would need to go, we'd have:

Bale- can play CAM but I think he'll be cutting in from the right next season
Lennon
Townsend- same as Bale, cuts in on left foot
Sigurdsson- can play CM but AVB likes to play him on the left
Dempsey- can play anywhere across the front
McManaman
Bernard

That's a lot of players to fill 2 spots, even with 1 signing. I suspect someone may be off from that lot. If we go to a 4-3-3 next season I think that player leaving could be Lennon. He's more of a 4-4-2 winger really.

From what I saw last season he's a right winger who ain't afraid of the left back in fact he attacks them every time which is not something we're used to at Spurs.
