Anybody who had watched Rose last season wasn't going to write him off after one pre season friendly.

Think we all need to get behind the Boy seeing as he is are only left back, don't need the boo-boys ruining his confidence as we are going to rely on him now.

to be fair to the OP, Rose is our week link and I wouldn't mind him being upgraded.

Something about him just doesn't sit right with what we are trying to achieve.

He's played three games!

And he's done pretty well IMO. He'll be working under AVB now, so he should improve as the year goes on. And if AVB has decided to give him a go for a year he couldn't be that worried about it.

If its not working out, I'm sure we'll do something in January, but some of the over reaction towards him is laughable.

LB is the only position where we aren't stacked with talented players. Maybe GK as well, but Lloris is so good and Friedel is still perfectly capable of performing at a high enough level when we need him.

Rose is our only actual LB and he's probably the worst player out of our starting 11. That said, he's not shit or anything and I do think that he will get better, but looking at our team sheet, LB is the only position that jumps out at me that needs improvement.

Rosie will be OK, few teams will have a walcott-level player up against him

I'm not basing my opinion on 3 games. I've never really liked him. :)

Spot on - for some reason people want to make him a scapegoat. Walker as well - really gets on my nerves when people call him 'brainless.' There are other explanations for why a player might to something on a football pitch that is frustrating to a supporter. Calling our players stupid because they make a bad pass occasionally or something is brainless in itself.

The only thing that hasn't impressed me about Rose is his crossing, but I think his passing and defensive work has been solid for the most part.

I thought he actually linked up very well with Chadli, the other object of animosity

He is young and inexperienced, but I honestly think that he has the minerals to go a long way.

We have a strong squad, and with Sandro, Paulinho, Capoue, Dembele, Verts, Kaboul, Daws or Vlad playing around him, they should be able to give him the assistance and nurture him to escalate him to the next level.

This is how other teams, for example United, bring young quality players through, and how we should be doing it too.

I have seen enough to think that he should be given the opportunity to prove himself.

If anyone thinks that we are going to lose games JUST because we have Rose in the team IMO is disillusioned.

So you're not prepared to give him a chance in a Spurs shirt because he impressed in a lesser side than us?

That sounds sensible. Perhaps we should just cancel all loans then!!

I'm not running the club so I trust AVB's judgement. At the moment though I'm expecting him to be the weak link.

He's a "meh" player with the quality around him.

Yes agree. I hope its something that improves, pretty vital in terms of his attacking contribution.

I think he'll improve under AVB, others have.

Really would have liked a new LB as I have no confidence in Rose being able to do the job at PL level, maybe he could have been used in Europe and The league cup but Fryes is the back up and i've even less confident about him.

I don't want Verts or Naughton to have to play in the LB roll either they are to important in other rolls.

If AVB genuinely thought he wasn't good enough or had been 'meh' about his performances on loan last season I really doubt he'd have his chance now.

Just think people should get behind the lad before just branding him not good enough. Its only three games, and by in large he's been fine.

I get the feeling with some people, they can't wait to get on his back.

To be honest, the only reason Rose is playing is because Benny's upset AVB. There would be no chance of him starting otherwise. That you have to agree with surely??

I don't know if I trust AVB's judgement in that area. I think AVB's massive flaw is identifying defensive problems. The guy preferred to play Naughton who is clearly uncomfortable at left back over BAE probably because of some vendetta. I know BAE was injured for a while last year, but there were long periods when he wasn't. I also think AVB has gotten himself into a hole by keeping Dawson as captain. He should've had the bollocks to give it to someone who fits the system better, but he hasn't and now we will find Dawson is more often than not the starting CB, when we have 3 other CBs who seemingly fit the high line better.

I have a few Sunderland supporting friends who absolutely rave about him and want him back. I was keen to get him back and have a look at him but he looks exactly the same player who played against Villa and got himself sent off. We laughed when Neville said David Luiz looked like he was being controlled by a kid with a playstation, but Rose is definitely that type of player when it comes to not only his positioning, but his lack of control over his crossing.
