To end this, Sam Allardyce out witted us, Steve Bruce did not.
The only difference between those games (other than the results, obviously) was that West Ham managed to score every chance they had and we weren't given a helping hand from the referee. The performances were pretty much same in the games.

Only El hamady and his penalty incidents seperate us from Hull in 2 games. 68% ball possession with 23 shots on goal and only 3 on target (Why are different sites so different in the stats - Soccerway saying only 12 shots on goal with 1 on target ?!) . Wow. Skin of teeth stuff. Poor Brucey.

PS: Kane saved our ass.

Kane is ready for this level I'd say. Really needs regular footballer for this season though, imo. He'd be able to really come back into the squad and play a role next season then. Just worried he won't get enough games if he stays here twiddling his thumbs for all but a half dozen appearances.

Where does he go though? Another Championship loan is probably going to do nothing for him. Its Prem experience he needs but who would take him...

I'd keep in around, to be honest I have had enough of Defoe so would probably play Soldado every week and give Kane minutes off the bench as and when we can.

Feels good to have players coming through our youth system, like Townsend and Kane, who have better all-round games than the likes of PL stalwarts/England Internationals Lennon and Defoe. Keep it up lads!
Not forgetting Carol as well.

I think Spurs are really going to have a golden age of young English talent coming through the ranks at the moment, who can actually play football.

It's looking good in the future.

I 'disagreed' with your post because it was very OTT in my opinion. I didnt think we played to badly tonight in all honesty! The football was much improved from Sunday (which was dire). Considering how many games that players like Paulinho, Verts and Walker have been playing recently, I thought we did well to come back into it and should've really won it in extra time. We've lost 2 games in 26 and are into the last 8 of a cup competition that we have a realistic chance of winning- I very rarely give out 'neg' ratings and will happily remove it if it bothers you that much but your post just seemed excessively negative.

I respect your opinion but in all honesty I think you are a very optimistic person. I hope you are right. It is really crazy that we have such an incredible stat considering the games we play. We rarely win comfortbale. In this statistic there are a few results against some 3rd league europeam teams.

We had a lot of possession and at times we moved it good. But I haven't seen us as a fluid unit. Here and there a good play but rarely. We had about three shots on target against a side who is championship quality at home!! I simply miss clear chances...

Forget about the rating, as I said i don't care, I just want the discussion..

Well yes but we all know JD will get the nod ahead of Kane. And, even though my views on JD are well known, I can't really fault that too much. I'd prefer we moved on and this next summer we might very well do but in the meantime...

Fair point though. I can only think of maybe someone like Hull who would take a chance on him in Jan.

He stays with us, EUFA Cup and Cup games, has more to offer when not scoring goals than Defoe.

So kinda of agreeing with you :)

BBC: we have 24 shots , 3 on targets , well played Defoe

Its not his fault, none of the team. this is a trend laid down from the top its been going on all season.

We do not get the ball into areas to hurt teams.

If you compare the amount of balls that Hull got into our box to us it will tell you a story.

Premier league defences aren't the best in the world yet every team we come up against look like Baresi and co in their pomp.

Just want to say that Vlad changed our pace when he came on tonight. He was fucking wicked, not the finished article but so much potential. Kaboul back was also great to see, love the little back heel in the first half.

Lamela played well tonight too. Fits and spurts, but you expect that.

I think AVB is going to play Paulinho, Vertonghen and Walker in every game this season. This is the only thing that worried me tonight...

I would not go as far as to say he is a fraud, But there are major doubts in my mind that he is not up for the task. There are far too many question marks and not enough answers. If your wingbacks are not upto the task and can not give you the wide play, Then why would you persevere (especially playing naughton and sig on the same flank) with them. Put a out and out winger on the left and likewise on the right, Especially as we do have them! We can not continue playing like this.

Too many people are quick to defend avb on here and only see the win and not look at the game as a whole, There are major problems ahead if avb does not have a clear understanding of what is needed to win games at home against teams like West Ham and even Hull (yes I know we won against them twice, But it was more fortune than anything else). People talk about needing creativity to open up teams who park the bus, I say we need space and tempo! Ffs we have Holtby, Eriksen and Sig as well as Lamela, Chadli, I count 5 players that can find a player if they have space.

Take those 6 pens away and where are we in the table? Take Bales solo mission away last season and where would we have finished? As far as I can see, Avb is a one system manager who refuses to try any other way and that will be his downfall if he continues like this.

our players may have more space if he plays the wingers on the correct side. I hate seeing them compressing the forward line all the time.

I actually thought we looked inventive at times today, more so than any other game this season.

We just had a braindead person up front and a few peripheral players.

The strongest XI out today and I'd of fancied a much more comfortable result.

Players clearly responded to the fans but run out of steam

I can't get comfortable on that horse. I am not convinced we would have beat them comfortably if our first team were on the pitch only 3 days after we struggled. In fact, had Siggy amd Kane not been on...
