Didn't you hate Redknapp with a passion too? So what is your suggestion?

I DID hate Redknapp with a passion - eventually. I didn't start off hating him. He fancied England and gave up, and hence I was glad to see him go.
AVB, I thought did well at Porto, but after a while in charge here he is finding it difficult - even with brilliant players HE had full control over buying (if not then there's a problem higher up) .

We're 10 points behind Arsenal. and outside the Top 4, and judging by the top 4 and ones just outside, with the way we play, there's absolutely no chance of finishing in that top 4, and we are clearly not as good as the top 5 or 6

Good win, but a concerning performance and tactical approach.

We need to improve, and we need to improve a lot.

I really hope we do, and I really hope we do with AVB in charge. But I'm not optimistic sadly.

That goal difference statistic compared to the other top sides is risible.

The usual suspects playing poor again (Dawson, Defoe etc.) Also worried by the fact that both goals were long range strikes that came out of nothing. Lucky 3 points but I'll take that. Thank god for HUGO

Quite a few of our goals last season were long range shots and out of nothing, nothing has changed in that regard, we create very little just like last season, but last seasons "worldies" were the result of Bales left boot and obviously no fluke, unlike Sandros and Holbys which will not be a regular occurrence.

This is Mandelson-worthy spin.

We pulled off a smash-and-grab, plain and simple. You can trot out the line that the mark of a top side is the ability to put on a ho-hum show and still grind out a win (and, to be fair, United have been doing that for as long as most of us can remember), but shouldn't we be doing just a little more?

Yes, we should be doing more. We should be playing with swagger.

Unfortunately, due to a culmination of things, we aren't yet. So we have to accept that this is a work in progress, and take the positives. We dominated, we created chances, and we won away from home again.

Throwing AVB out now is the last thing we need.

Firstly, we've put too much preparation in to give up now, and secondly, who the hell would replace him to give us more points in the league than we currently do?

I don't get this - we win the game, the heat's off our unfairly under-fire manager and we're acting like we just lost to S****horpe 5-1! Sheesh... anybody got any cathode rays handy, 'cos I'm all out of positive energy!

Some of the stuff posted in this thread is mind boggling. I don't know whether people write it out of ignorance, laziness, stupidity or just a lovely little mixture of all three.

We don't create and we don't score goals? Ok, the second one the AVB haters can have, but it is completely dependent on the first part - that we 'don't' create. How people can look at the past two games (Utd and Fulham) and say we create nothing is beyond me. Off the top of my head against Utd Soldado went through and missed, then Lennon went through and shot straight at De Gea and I can recall other chances which weren't taken.

Tonight against Fulham, Paulinho does brilliantly then blazes over, Defoe goes through and it's saved, goes through again and hammers it over, cut back for Lamela who drags it wide, fantastic save from Steklenberg, pull back for Paulinho which is fluffed ... but yea, we create nothing, AVB is tactically inept.

What is actually the case, which those who are able to get further than hammering the keyboard with their knuckles and miraculously ending up with 'AVB is shit, we create nothing' can already see, is that we create, just none of the fuckers are scoring - but lets blame AVB, it's much much easier.

Bang on. AVB deserves criticism when he sets the tactics up poorly, but not when our players perform badly or fail to do their job. Some of the misses today were shocking and make you wonder how these guys take home upwards of £30,000 per week.

Haha unlucky AVB haters, looks like you've got him for another game at least.
Seriously Nocando that comment is as bad as player wanting us to lose, I or any other rational fan does'nt hate Villas Boas quite the opposite, there'something about the guy that I really want him to do well, I'm caught between wanting to give him a hug & shaking him to get a grip & cop on.
At the sametime I'm not going to put my head in the sand & pretend that things are'nt right. If you want to ware rose- tinted glasses that's up to you.
I deal in reality & voice my concerns because I care what happens with our team.
This is'nt just related to the manager & players have to stand up & be accountable too, although I do believe a team mirrors it's manager

I see the game is 8th in the running order on MOTD. Bet it would have been a lot higher had Fulham held on for the win.

He certainly didn't have full control over buying. You can't seriously think that he did?
So as I said in brackets - that means there's a problem higher up.
IF AVB did not have the final say as to which player he wanted then there's a problem.
