That only comes when players know each other. I really think it's that simple. We just need to let it prove and prove again. Then we'll get a good rise with no soggy bottoms. Boom.

Its chicken and egg for me. Yes familiarity is part of it in its own right, but IMO you precipitate that understanding by playing with more ambition, more thrust with our passing, moving it quicker etc...There's also some truth in the fact that we lack a certain type of player.

Anyhoo, the result is bloody positive for a lot of reasons. Lets hope we can kick on now.

The problem here is most fans underestimate EPL sides.
There shit and useless?
Really, this is the side that cost us CL football last year, remember we lost 1 0 at home.
There not in the EPL because there shit, they are there on merit and any EPL side can beat another on there day.
THERE ARE NOT ANY EASY GAMES ANY MORE, TRY TO UNDERSTAND THIS, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT.
They just sacked there manager, got a new one, there players are playing for there future.
They had 3 or 4 players closing down every time we had the ball.
Its fucking hard to play against teams like this, no matter who you are.
We created enough in the first half to be out of sight.
We have a lot of new players trying to find there feet.
If we keep winning ugly until the players get to know each others play then great, its called a winning mentality, man utd won many a title with this attitude.
Get behind the team until it starts to flow.

No. We weren't utterly shite at all.

We bossed the ball. And aside from their hoofs to Berbatov, they offered very little aside from very rare moments in between our long spells.

Two good goals but we created as well - as we did against United. We could have lost and we could also have won 4-0.

As it was, I'm ecstatic with the comeback. And sitting near the away fans having snaffled a Fulham ticket last minute was one of the best decisions I've made.

Fans happy and singing. That would be so nice at the Lane? Instead of all you moany bastards. I love you all, though.

Can't say I agree, I could only see that game as positive if you were comparing it with the rest of the season. That first half was pitiful, and it didn't exactly get better, especially when you consider our competitor - a side that's currently on the worst run of form in the league.

I'm glad we came back to win but we shouldn't have been in that position in the first place.

ok mr hindsight, might be a results business but doesn't change the fact we were damn lucky tonight, if it wasn't for a fantastic Lloris save or a width of a post the result and response would be very different, why can't we get a settled side, or at least attempt to.

At the same time Stekelenberg made a couple of very good saves which could have made the game a lot more comfortable for us. Swings and roundabouts.

This thread has thoroughly fucked me off tonight. Some of the shit I have read has been scandalous. There are some people on here with massive driven agendas Who can't even enjoy a victory??? no matter how it came about. I am fucking horrified. Won't be in here next match thread for sure.
Bloody hell, listen to yourself. Victory is not the be all and end all. The performance is, and for long periods we were woeful tonight. We got lucky and managed a victory by the skin of our teeth. If the first goal had been scored against us I would have been livid, if Defoe wasn't interfering with play when he jumped over the ball, what is?

Mostly we played the same slow boring football, I and a lot of others are not happy with this style. As others have said, playing badly despite winning is not good for the future.

The "record points haul" still got us finished one place below the previous season
I'm sick of hearing this argument - it's senseless in that 4th place didn't even get us the Champions League - in that year we should have made it to the safety of third but we all know what happened.

And a lot of us understand were bedding in new players and dosent happen over night.
Also the results matter more than anything as any champions will attest to.
If Defoe takes his chance, paul and lamela score then what? they didnt but we still won.
WE ARE WORK IN PROGRESS AND WERE STILL UP THERE.
Wenger was saying we bought to many players to try bed, but were still up there.

cannot be overstated how big a win this was. we've been pretty shit all season yet we're only 3pts from everton and liverpoo who have by all accounts had great starts so there's still plenty of football to be played yet. i've got to trust avb can get us going.

Can't believe we're only 14 games in though, i'm going to need a cryogenic chamber to get through to the end. I love spurs more than anything but jeez it's one hell of a journey..........

We have played better. We have played better and drawn or lost.

Tonight, we went one down and came back from it. It showed grit, determination and the will to win.

It may not always be the most beautiful football we've seen from Spurs but I believe it will get better.

We won tonight, we got three points and we can and will do that again. We have to get behind our team and our manager and suppress the negativity because the team feels it and it affects them.

What a great girl everyone !

I just don't understand how people can get so miserable over a win.
Allow me to explain.

We were eleven men devoid of any coherence, apparent strategy, and ideas. We were lucky to beat a Fulham team that had lost six in a row and most weeks was lucky to get nil. The current squad has played approximately twenty games together and, far from improving with familiarity with each other and a way of playing, appears to be getting progressively worse. I'm happy relieved that we won, but distressed that arguably the worst team in the league was comprehensively better than us.

I have been fully behind AVB and supportive of all of our new players. I understand that blending players takes time, and that the team has changed due to injuries and the rotation that is necessary in three (soon to be four) competitions. But I had expected that more than one third of the way through the season I would begin to at least see what AVB is trying to do. I can't. We started with an apparent plan to play in a particular style, and we're slowly degenerating into a shambles.

As I said above: I don't know what the answer is, and my worry is that I am not sure that the manager does.

Have you actually followed this thread tonight? If you have you know that I was not talking about the football.

That's the one huge positive in all this, to be only three points off Everton and Liverpool, who are being wanked over, is quite incredible.

So frustrating because we could be a good bit ahead of them had we been beating the likes of West Ham and Newcastle et al....

If we improve though, we're still very much in this fight for fourth.

The offside rule changed this year - interfering is now deemed to be challenging another player.

Oh well. Looks like you are going to have to have some faith in AVB. I can see what we are doing. I can see improvement. The results are fine, the performances are getting better, all good.

Before the Man Utd game:

"Apart from those penalties we've only scored x amount of goals."

After the Man Utd game:

"Apart from those penalties and lucky goals from outside the box, we've only scored x amount of goals."

Got it!

Results matter in football. That was an absolutely vital three points for us. I thought AVB set us up well, though the Defoe selection was a major mistake in my opinion. Nevertheless, the team showed excellent spirit fighting back from a goal down away from home.

I still think the title race is wide open. We've got to get Lamela, Eriksen, and Soldado clicking together, as I think they can really propel us forward.

Chiriches is an absolute diamond of a footballer. His audacity (very few centre-backs would've attempted that shot with their off foot) saved AVB from a torrid of criticism, as it allowed the lads to relax a bit and play aggressively for the winner.

I think we'll beat Sunderland away. They are a much worse side talent wise than Fulham, and we should be buoyed by today's result.

The potential defining match of this month is next weekend against Liverpool. We have not beaten Chelsea, Everton, Arsenal, Man City, or United (3 points out of a possible 15), and if we want to finish in the top 4, we've got to grab the full three points in fixtures against rivals at home.

Cheer up everyone, we won!!!

GET IN! :D

If we're winning (the majority) of games and not playing our best imagine what will happen when we do start moving up into 5th gear?

Bring it on!

Thought we played decent enough, better finishing and some very good stops kept us to 2 goals. And that was a completely different Fulham side that limped through the last few weeks of jol's reign, they were reinvigorated, so it's a moot point saying we should be easily beating this team that's lost 6 on the spin, because it clearly wasn't the same team at all

Our passing from the middle was turgid, please can we rest Paulinho before we run him into the ground. Lamela excited me tonight, can't wait until he is fully acclimatised
