Which is one reason im worried the scum might win the league
I was thinking today if they beat Everton you have to make them favourites for the title - though I still fancy City to come good, Arsenal are well and truly in contention this year and a win tomorrow puts them right in the drivers seat with some of the straws being clutches as to why they won't win it being destroyed

this is what i mean... it could have... we shouldnt have left it to chance. we shouldn't have hope sunderland don't score. we should have gone and win the game. we have to go out and win games, not hope for the other team to make mistakes and not score. we have to be positive everytime we take the field. and today, after we when 2-1 up, we turn negative.
Amongst other chances we hit the post twice after going 2-1 up. That isn't usually an indication of negativity.

TALKSPORT's MOTM - Paulinho. Dembele a close second.
Pundits usually pick the wrong MOTM. Would have been Dembele probably if the goal was credited to him instead of an own goal.

Not saying Paulinho wasn't good today because he was but Walker was clearly our best player imo.

Creating clear cut chances has been more the issue than finishing, Newcastle second half aside, and today for the first time we actually managed to create a gutful.

So no it hasn't been really, the issue has definitely been more to do with creating enough clear cut chances. We keep doing that consistently and the goals will start to flow.
This all day long. This has been my one and only gripe with us. Keep this up, we will finish top 4, of that I have no doubt.

Had Soldado been on, he would have scored 2 I reckon today. Taking nothing away from Defoe, his movement was hos best for ages, but Soldado would have thrived on those chances today.

Very happy with that win. Come on Spurs, lets move on from this now.

Yup. Horrible to see. But they can still lose 2 or 3 in a row and wobble. Sill see city favourites.

don't want to simply hit disagree, I too was very unhappy with us dropping deeper, we were playing well and didn't need to panic and felt we could have controllled the end of the game better but i completely disagree that we were lucky to come away with 3 points, WTF??? if we failed it was in killing the game off, and no game is easy, just look at Stokes win against Chelsea today if you need an example, 2 gritty away wins in a week, both involving coming from behind and we certainly controlled the game much better than we did at the Cottage, all in all happy with todays performance.

i don't understand, when ever we take the lead, we always "go into our shell" as if we are asking them to equalize. like i said, we played well, happy with the win, just question our desire to finish them off and not leave things to chance.

Could have, yeah. They should have had a penalty, we should have had a penalty. It could have been 5-1.

I think Sunderland's current position still has Di Canio written all over it, in the same way that Palace have won a couple of games in a row now but are still down there. There's a fine line between trying to kill the game off and protecting the lead. We went for a third goal straight away after taking the lead, but didn't get it. Can you imagine the reaction if we'd continued to push players forward in the last ten minutes and conceded on the break?

is not the last 10mins i was upset about, it was before the double sub by sunderland, we had the ball. sundeland wasn't able to win the ball, but instead of using that time to push forward, we played keep ball, as if stalling for time telling sunderland "yeah we in the lead, and now u decide what u want to do" we should have taken the initiative and take the game to them.

thats grinding my gears big time!

Yea right now I'm still just about holding on to City sorting out their away form and being too strong over the whole season

But if Arsenal beat a tough Everton outfit tomorrow I will have to make them my favourites for the league this year I think

Agree Matty. Defoe's movement was pretty good in fairness, he was taking up the right positions and making the right runs but I think its fair to say that Soldado would of given his right arm to be involved in that today.

What's worrying me right now is that the Goons aren't dropping the points I'd expected.
By the way, I thought that Chadli improved throughout the game, even though I did say he was poor.
AVB's subs were very good.

We didn't turn negative up 2-1, we had 3 or 4 of our best chances in the game...

In other news Gerrard has done his hamstring today, helps for us against them on Sunday

I knew he came off, but great news if he's done his hammy. I was at this game last year, and bar the first 20 minutes were we went 2 nil up he controlled the game for them for the remainder.

Is it confirmed he's definitely out?

Oh boo hoo, some of the comments on here are ridiculous. Two wins on the spin, a 20 minute spell in the 2nd half when we looked as dangerous and fluid as we have for the past 12 months, and 3 points off 2nd place. Some people are just never happy.

Sounds like a crisis to me...

Not yet, but Rogers says hes hurt his Hamstring and gone for scans, and you wouldnt return within a week even if you strained it, so hopeful for us!

Defoe has 1 league goal in his approx. the last 1200 league minutes played. He has missed countless quality chances in that time-span in 2013. It's a huge financial risk for the club to keep Soldado on the bench for Defoe given his goal-scoring drought and the money we've spent on Soldado does matter, as we operate on a relatively tight budget, and in my opinion, Soldado is the superior player.
