To me this does not makes sense. Tim want leaders and in Holtby he's got a player who leads by example on the pitch.
Tim's just getting to know Capoue. Well, I thought, as Technical director, he watched all the games and was involved in the first team. That Etienne is in the forefront of his mind has more to do with that Tim want to sell him it seem. I really hope Tim succeeds because so far some of the things he's said and done make little sense - at least right now.
This is speculation from my side but it seem as that "source" who told me that Tim did not like that Spurs bought Holtby and Capour against his will, was right...
Thus said, the same "source" also pointed out that Tim feel Capoue is injury prone (in which case I may understand Tim a bit more :) )
“I like Lewis, he’s a good lad, he’s one of the best trainers we’ve got at the club,” said head coach Tim Sherwood.
Sherwood said: “I’m getting to know Etienne now as well so he’s at the forefront of my mind at the moment."

Tim Sherwood admits Lewis Holtby and Etienne Capoue can exit Spurs

Tim Sherwood admitted Tottenham still have no plans to add to their squad in the January transfer window, but confirmed Lewis Holtby and Etienne Capoue will be allowed to leave, for the right offer.

Former manager Andre Villas-Boas signed Holtby a year ago from German side Schalke but the German international has been linked to a return to the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund having failed to nail down a regular position at White Hart Lane.

“I like Lewis, he’s a good lad, he’s one of the best trainers we’ve got at the club,” said head coach Tim Sherwood.

“I understand, as I do with all players having played the game myself, they all want to play.

“And if they’re not getting a lot of opportunities sometimes you have to be fair to the player, but first and foremost my job is to do what’s right for the football club.”

Capoue was one of Spurs’ seven summer signings as the north Londoners splashed out £100million following the world record sale of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid.

Sherwood said: “I’m getting to know Etienne now as well so he’s at the forefront of my mind at the moment.

“But we have got a lot of players in that midfield area and if an opportunity does arise, and if it’s right for the club, then we will let players move on.”

However, the manager, does not expect to bring any new faces in ahead of transfer deadline day on Friday.

“As I continually say we’re not actively looking for anything,” he said.

“Unless something drastic happens between now and the end of the window we won’t be bringing anyone in.”

In no way would I describe Holtby as a leader. Tries hard on the pitch no doubt. But not a leader. Seems pretty immature actually to me tbh

I think letting Capoue leave will come back and bite us on the arse. I found an article on him when he was at Toulouse and part of the problem with him can be summed up by his old manager, who says

"He's capable of having such a great career, you have to be especially demanding with these players," explained Toulouse coach Alain Casanova. "At the same time we know he's someone who has a tendency to relax a bit: the game comes so easily to him that maybe he isn't demanding enough with himself. So from time to time he doesn't apply himself as much as he needs to." http://www.ligue1.com/ligue1/article/capoue-determined-to-do-well.htm

Maybe he is going through one of these periods now and it is up to Tim and the team to get him motivated again. Not playing him is not helping.

sherwood is an idiot.

chadli, in the team. but holtby can leave. what a bellend.

Chadli in the team? Presume you're just basing that on the Swansea game where he played left wing (and we won).
And they're hardly similar players so can't see the comparison myself.

Where in that article does he say Capoue and Holtby can leave? these look like rehashed comments from 3 weeks ago

Tim: “But we have got a lot of players in that midfield area and if an opportunity does arise, and if it’s right for the club, then we will let players move on.”

Capoue looks like a leader to me.
Great holding mf who can get forward and play.

Tim is going to make the biggest mistake in letting Capoue go ... You really need a STRONG MIDFIELDER and this guy does really fir the ill - As for Lewis, I really do have mixed emotions. As for CHADLI - I will drive him myself to wherever he wants to go.

Well it's probably safe to assume it's the guys he isn't picking.

I don't think he's really saying anything out of the ordinary here really. You get asked about guys who aren't playing and it's a fairly standard response. Not looking to sell but if the right offer comes in.. yada yada yada.

I like Holtby, he's a loveable character (bit like Freund but obviously more talented) and a hard worker but arguably he's less required than Capoue. I still think Capoue is a player we need. Holtby, less so.

Big mistake letting Holtby go imo. Two good feet, good vision, always wants the ball, always shows/offers himself for an option unlike others who just fucking hide. Forward thinking player too, plays with his head up and other than his really early outings for us, when maybe he was too eager to impress, anyone who says he's an headless chicken still is, sorry to say talking utter nonsense. If others applied themselves in the same manner, as he is full of energy, hassling and closing down, we would be very difficult to play against.

It will be a big mistake getting rid.
