If anyone's interested we beat Southend 2-1 behind closed door. I didn't mange to watch the match and I don't have any other info at the moment. I'll update later when I know.
Am I right in thinking that the first team have already left for the States?

The young CB could be Ginter. Maybe we had already made a bid, and now that he returned from the WC, we conclude de deal

Funny because the mind read over de...four or five times. It's the small attention to detail people!

ali z:Young CB is Jamal we are very close to Davies too.
Guys do not expect major signings we are in addition to these two look for another CH and a LWF as well as 2/3 younger players. We are not going to get any head line grabbing signings, Poch is building from the back and realises he can only do it through 3/4 windows not in 1.
Jan likely to sign new deal.

Of course we all want those big name, fancy signings-especially with what's happening elsewhere; but the refreshing thing about news like this is it sounds as if we have a long term plan under a manager-and an understanding that that success doesn't happen overnight, so we are willing to build something. I hope the majority of fans can share this ideology.

Completely off topic but does anyone else think that this 'special relationship' we've forged with Real Madrid equates to us selling our best players to them and in exchange they sell their world class players to the Scum?

Damn, what happened to your rep, your red is bigger than your green. :blackeye:

Love this. I really think we'll be in excellent shape by the end of next summer's window.

A centre half and left back are our only major requirements this transfer window anyway so I'm happy for a quite window.
I believe if we don't sign a left forward then we'll go with either Townsend or eriksen there so it's hardly a must.
Saying that though obviously if depay or someone like him become available at a reasonable price I'm hardly gonna say no

This.

Henry
Drogba
Modric

None of them had the best of first seasons, yet went on to be half decent players

Modric got more goals and assists in his first season with us than in any of the subsequent seasons (including with Madrid), so I don't get where this myth that he had a slow start stems from.

I'm happy with the signings of Lascelles. Fuck the Forest fans who don't really rate him.

After a few seasons on FIFA Career Mode, he's 84 rated and that's good enough evidence of his ability for me.

I was kinda against this at first as I dont believe that currently he's much of a step up from Rose, Rose is actually better in a fair few aspects IMO. BUT, after thinking about it more, I've warmed to it slightly. If we're not going to get Rodriguez, I'm looking down the list of potentials and I'm not really seeing anything that stands out as a great signing, and we need to get somebody in. So, signing Davies at least gets us a body in, boosts up our HG quota, and he is at least at an age where he could still get better.

Interesting review here (back in March so not a full season). I think he is a step up from Rose in terms of a solid more dependable player. I think the home grown aspect is also very important in the current situation with Tottenhams squad.

Davies provided more goals and chances, better possesion and tackling than Gibbs, Rose and Shaw last season. Shaw wins in a few other areas whilst Rose is the king of interceptions. None of these got 20% or more in cross conversion with Davies and Shaw on 19% and Rose on 17% so you are right there is no upgrade there. As a signing though i think it would be a sensible if not breathtaking addition to the squad.

some key quotes

"Kyle Walker the most creative right-back in the league"

"Davies has the best rate of loss of possession, losing possession 311 times in 24 games, compared to Shaw’s 446 in 25 games, Gibbs’ 299 in 19 games and Rose’s 250 in just 13 games, an awful statistic for the young English left-back."

"Davies seems more comfortable on the ball than his three competitors, with Davies dispossessed just 15 times in 24 games, compared to Rose’s 16 in 13 games"

"In terms of chances created, Davies tops the category, creating a total of 27 chances for his side, while Shaw has created 22, with Shaw adding an assist."

I'm really not crazy about Davies, I haven't been from the first rumours and I'm still not. I have that same itch on my back as I had about those Benteke-rumours. I believe the only "right" signings for that LB-spot are abroad (because so few good LB's in PL are viable options).
If we look at stats per 90. minutes, Davies is best at nothing. Save perhaps passing a few more balls forward. Rose, as already stated, does more interceptions, more blocks, more successful take ons and more completed tackles. Blind is far better at interceptions and creating chances (yes I know he plays in the "far lesser" league Eredivisie).
I love to be proven wrong, though. Love it.

Blind is as slow as Corluka, if not slower.
