Poch has reiterated his desire for a philosophy repeatedly. Part of that philosophy is playing a high line. We've seen its virtually suicidal to play Brad in a high line. It would be fairly daft to have this overarching philosophy which is seen as key to everything and then not play it in the cup games.

So if we want to rest Hugo (and I'd certainly like to spare him excess travel) then we need a keeper capable of implementing Pochettino's ideas as much as any other position.

Plus it makes our bargaining position if Lloris does leave in a year or two far stronger.

Chances of a 'sweeper' keeper like Lloris getting injured are also much higher than one who stays put.

No we wouldn't (esp as he'd be 31 then) - GKs are always priced low cf outfield players: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goalkeeper_(association_football)#Highest_fees. £5m would be in the top 20 fees ever paid for a GK.

Precisely correct.

Man United. Turnover £363m. 2nd GK Lindegard £4.4m
(excluding £75m/year with Adidas)

Arsenal. Turnover £283m 2nd GK Ospina £3m
(excluding £35m/year with Puma)

Man City. Turnover £Oil 2nd GK Caballero £4.4m

Chelsea. Turnover £ThievingFromStarvingRussianPensioners 2nd GK Schwarzer £Free.

Liverpool Turnover £206m. 2nd GK Brad Jones £2.5m

Tottenham. Turnover £147m. 2nd GK. £5m?!

It's not the way for us to compete.

Right if BD is done let's get on with getting our new centre half and fobbing off the likes of Dawson Lennon and Sig.

I saw enough in young lads like ceballos and falque last night to know that we can make money off sales and not need to bring others in for the positions behind the striker

JJ asked about Vorm - answer 'possible' and maybe'.

Sounds like its a quite a bit behind Davies (and quite possibly not agreed) to which he answered 'nearly there'

Where has the 5m figure come from?

I think its the difference between 2 rumours 'Davies for £10m' and 'Davies and Vorm' for £15m'.

If we sign Davies for £10m, niot sure we will necessarily pay £5m for Vorm, biut who knows !

Siggy I personally like!! He gives his all and while hes not the best player hes still a good player! Plus Poch's system requires workrate which him and more importantly Holby both have!

I do agree Dawson isnt quick enough anymore and should be sold... Have we had any ITK on him leaving though?

It's not good value. £5m would possibly make him the most expensive back-up keeper in history.

Remember we only paid £7.8m for Lloris.

If he was a decade younger, he'd maybe be worth a punt, but you can get competent back-up keepers for virtually free. And any injury to Lloris you use the emergency GK loan system.

Have you considered the possibility that signing a goalkeeper like Vorm, who would be first choice for many teams, is not just about bringing in a backup but also about creating competition for Lloris. If we sign a bog standard back up like Cerny or Pletikosa they will not have the style or natural ability to give Lloris fair competition. Even if he doesnt get many games it will keep Lloris focused on his form which having Brad as a number 2 may not have done.

Furthermore, if we are in the unfortunate position of having to sell Lloris next summer then we will have a very good goalkeeper waiting in the wings ready to replace him where a youth prospect like Archer would just not be ready.

£5 million insurance policy and extra incentive to keep Lloris on top form? Not having to have Lloris travel to far flung teams in Europe and still maintain a good quality keeper that could be the difference between 5-6 points in the league? Not being stung in the market for a keeper because Lloris leaves next summer and we are left without any keepers?

£5 million is a snip in my book

I disagree with this, so many times last season he looked like he couldn't be bothered, especially when played wide left. This is one of the reasons why I wouldn't be too upset if he left.

I imagine a lot of the big potential younger keepers we might like actually want regular playing time. It's always tough to get a decent quality cover keeper because keepers tend to not get injured as frequently and there is only the one position they can play.
Brad has been a good servant but I imagine he is looking more towards a coaching role for his future than really pushing his playing career.
If Hugo does get injured we would have a younger, quicker more agile keeper more suited to a higher defensive line game, it's not the end of the world, there may be better options but Vorm has demonstrated he can be a decent keeper.
I can't really see any issue, unless Archer is a keeper of real potential, but I have heard nothing to suggest he is

Vorm gives us an excellent more mobile backup. In terms the more average keepers I've always wondered why there were not more who specialised in another position such as a striker ..like Jorge Campos, ..wasn't he top scorer at club level for years? ... Wouldn't it be great to have an extra outfield sub to choose from knowing he's a capable keeper too?... Or as van gaal maybe thinks train them to specialist penalty takers and stoppers?

My understanding is that it would be better to process a sig/Davies/vorm swap in 3 deals as opposed to 1, as none of the players have a sell-on clause and, believe it or not, it's easier to circumvent tax in football with straight deals than it is swaps. We've only paid tax under levy twice because of how he reinvests the money, if he puts our profit back into the stadium this works out better. Of course, this makes little difference to how a deal would be portrayed in the media.

PS I won't comment on the deal itself, it's all out there and pretty obvious.

Maybe he will, who knows. It's a risk.

The point I'm getting Vorm at 30 for £5m, we're buying at a point where he will only depreciate.

I'm all for risking a write down on a Parker, or a VDV, who made huge impacts.

But we can't justify that kind of write off, for a Goalkeeper who won't play.

With our revenues and ambitions, and the competition we're up against - it's just not viable.

Not when Arsenal buy Ospina at 25 for £3m - and have double our budget.

Can Baldini, Broomfield, and Poch, not come up with 1 better solution between then?

@BobParkinson yep xx

I don't know whether he is agreeing with the bit saying Morgan is our number 1 target, or the bit about our strikers...

I'll grasp at some straws and say thay xx translates as x2 therefore agreeing to both statements.
