Doesn't really fit the sort of deal that Levy likes. Quite old, with not much potential sell-on value. i could perhaps understand a swap involving cash and Dawson , although Vlaar is not exactly a greyhound in terms of pace either, but Holtby appears to be the type of player that Poch would want in the squad. Don't see Holtby going this window
This would be my concern too. However as a short term option, I think he could offer something organising our back four and being a proper leader there. The way he marshalled a very young Dutch defence in the WC was top notch.Awesome in a deep lying defence, struggles with a high line and slow as hell.
No
I think the pace thing is overrated in terms of the high line, I think what really cost us last season was poor organisation as a back four. I look at the likes of Walker, Davies and Jan, if they are the rest of the potential backline, and what they would benefit most from is a real leader and organiser, to dig them out if they switch off and make the calls as to when to push up and hold the line.No way do I want Holtby involved in any transfer let alone this one.
He's not a bad CB by any means and had an excellent world cup... don't think he'd suit Poch's style though would he? He's not exactly quick on the turn.
