expected this one for a while

he's got 12 months left on his contract so he'd be cheap, he's good backup/rotation. wouldn't be surprised at all if it's a deadline day special

Awesome in a deep lying defence, struggles with a high line and slow as hell.

No

Doesn't really fit the sort of deal that Levy likes. Quite old, with not much potential sell-on value. i could perhaps understand a swap involving cash and Dawson , although Vlaar is not exactly a greyhound in terms of pace either, but Holtby appears to be the type of player that Poch would want in the squad. Don't see Holtby going this window

Don't want Vlaar and can't believe we would consider swapping Holtby plus give them money, that would be an absolute joke.

The worrying thing is Alan Nixon has been on the money with Spurs news this window (Only one to call Lloris contract negotiations and first to call Davies choosing Spurs, when everyone else saying he had chosen Liverpool).

This would be my concern too. However as a short term option, I think he could offer something organising our back four and being a proper leader there. The way he marshalled a very young Dutch defence in the WC was top notch.

Nixon has been OK for Spurs stuff this summer (I think he broke the Davies story). I wouldn't mind Vlaar but no way would I offer them Holtby.

No way do I want Holtby involved in any transfer let alone this one.

He's not a bad CB by any means and had an excellent world cup...don't think he'd suit Poch's style though would he? He's not exactly quick on the turn.

Hope the source of the story was a conversation overheard through a keyhole and they were actually talking about Schar, not Vlaar.

I think the pace thing is overrated in terms of the high line, I think what really cost us last season was poor organisation as a back four. I look at the likes of Walker, Davies and Jan, if they are the rest of the potential backline, and what they would benefit most from is a real leader and organiser, to dig them out if they switch off and make the calls as to when to push up and hold the line.

Yeah some truth in that.

I thought he had a good WC and was obviously in a struggling Villa side. He's a commanding presence alright though...how do you rate him?

Good player. Not a trendy name but a solid player and would be an upgrade on Daws if we could swap them

Rather keep Daws, tbh. Was really good in the WC, but didn't impress me at all at Villa last season.

Good defender, deserves better than to be stuck at Villa, but isn't suited to how we are going to play.
