Cos Levy loves a late deal ...we should be backing Poch staright from the off , after all he came in May and had plenty of time to identify targets ...but of course we will leave it til deadline day to buy players we dont want and sell players we wanted to keep ....MS may be Poch's main priority this window, but why the hell did we leave it so late to move on him then? Surely it would of been easier to get him in before the rest of the Premier League began cherry picking the Southampton team??

I go back and forth on the DOF system - I do believe that the manager must have a say in the players coming in, or going out. But, I don't know that the manager is always the best person to determine which players fit the description. There are only so many hours in the day, and a coach who is preparing the current squad, has less time to adequately scout other players properly. The DOF, if he works with the coach/manager, is a great system.
Now, in this case, as it relates to Schneiderlin specifically, I'd say Pochettino is in the best position to know if he will fit. Plus the only ITK we have on the system these days, is that everyone is on the same page - Coach, Chairman, DOF, Scout, so when that happens, I like the way the system divides responsibilities.

So we've had Itk that we are trying hard for both mm and ms, that's 40 mill or so plus wages. Also that we are trying to punt one or two to to Italy, most likely chiri and sandro. And a suggestion a slightly more popular player might have to be shipped especially if other outs don't come off, Townsend has been mentioned.
I could just about see Levy dropping the m&m money if we manage to shift the above mentioned,but otherwise no chance! One or the other if that.

Poch seeing it as our weakest area isn't the same as saying it's weak, it could mean it's the area in which he's least happy with the depth available. In terms of players he feels could make the biggest difference to our season then it's perfectly reasonable to say I'd like more depth at CB, but my key signing is MS at CM.

From my albeit limited understanding of the ITK system, I would say that the accepted ITKs on here have been in discussion with the mods and divulge their sources to them. The mods then pass this information on to the forum sometimes via the dreaded cryptic or mostly just as is.
This system protects the ITKs and sources, and also serves as a filtering system for most of the other shite that is out there being made up and regurgitated. Everything is passed on in good faith, and yes sometimes it turns out to be wrong or incorrect but at the time it was passed it's believed to be true, things are fluid and not set in stone.
Also historically there have been supposed ITKs who have form for attention seeking, Trolling, or just downright fabrication. These are filtered out of this thread by the mods, but feel free to post in the player threads if it makes you happy.

I agree - I see MS, and the CM position in general, as the heartbeat of the team - when that position is working, the entire team looks better.
The defense could certainly use an upgrade, and I am hoping Musacchio comes in (I had him as more important than Schneiderlin until JJ indicated Pochettino is not satisfied with the current CM players), but controlling the midfield properly helps the entire team keep shape attacking and defending.
