This is all about the stadium. The private equity company will add scale to Spurs by a significant real estate investment.

I've been to 3 Guggenheim museums around the world.

I'm not saying I'm directly responsible for this interest but it must mean something. Doesn't it.

thats just the philanthropic side of the business - they use the piggy bank for that....it ain't the serious money dude ;)

Thing is....these guys are not really the type to do something in any other manner than full out.

I imagine one of the appealing things to a group like Cain Hoy is the fact that we have succeeded on a budget, means to investors like them that "small investment" could reap "big rewards". They have affiliations with Apollo Global Management and Guggenheim Capital which each represent somewhere between £140 - £200 Billion in investment capital.

Now it is very unlikely that they would come in and suddenly we would go buy Falcao, but if a group like CH were to come in they are far more likely to look at where Spurs have finished and sign off on a big money signing if they believed it would result in CL qualification.

Realistically odds are a group like CH take over and very little changes in how we are run but it could offer us the opportunity to make strategic moves to make a jump if necessary. Which is really what we need....strategic cash infusion to lift the club up a couple spots and keep us there.

this would be a marquee signing for them...these boys want to play in the big league on both a corporate and personal level....you know....is that a knife? No, this is a knife....

Most overrated aspect of the club is the Academy/youth system. Its nostalgic, but does not play a significant role in developing top-4 caliber players. Its too hard for a team to compete in the league, Europe, cups and find enough time to properly integrate youth players. Mid-table teams, with lower expectations, are better suited to building a lasting youth system.

You make an interesting point but I think if you look throughout history, be it the Busby babes, Ajax from the 60's and 70's up to the present day Man Utd in the 90's, right up to teams like Bayern and Dortmund and Barcelona today have built their success on youth.

It's important to remember that even if we get taken over it is unlikely we will get taken over by someone as rich as Abramovic or the guys at City, to reach the top we are still going to have to be clever an maximize every part of the club to compete at top level.

Equally with FFP being a huge part of the modern game being able to create a Livermore who gets you 8m, a Caulker who gets you 9m is what it's all about. Two years ago Bentaleb was worth maybe 1-2m, today he is likely five times that, the same goes for Kane. This is absolutely not nostalgia it's producing millions for the club.

If no other club is doing that it doesn't mean we are wrong, it means it's an advantage we have over other clubs and we shouldn't be whimsical about giving it away.

Oh agree that these are the types of guys who can get caught up in pissing matches over expensive play things, comes with the territory i suppose.

But to these guys the flagship would be that their club is located in London. Not Birmingham, not Leicester, not Hull or Cardiff or Stoke or Derby....their big bragging right purchase is in London. That London with the Queen...THE London. Some other rich bastard buys a club..."where is you club? BIRMINGHAM!?!?! My god how do you deal with being in the wilderness? I could never imagine spending that amount of money and NOT being in London, it's like you are throwing cash away."

Now if they can own a club IN London and raise the level of performance then all the better....but the bragging right isn't the players, its the location.

Every club get sold eventually, ENIC have done a good job imo, but Lewis looks like he's willing to sell at the right price.

I think this is a transition period for the club and having enthusiastic new owners come in and get involved might be a blessing in disguise.

Also, I'd much prefer being bought by smart, sensible investment bankers who support Spurs rather than oil-funded oligarchs tbh.

Absolutely agree! What we need is Spurs-supporting oligarchs who aren't funded by oil...;)

If they did take over, would they be likely to redesign the new stadium?

If they did take over, would they be likely to redesign the new stadium?

My guess would be that they wouldn't show interest at this stage if they weren't generally happy with the designs. Otherwise why wait until such a late stage in the stadium development to come in with a (hypothetical) bid?

I can't imagine stadiums can be re-designed on a whim without serious delays right across the board, and it would just open up another can of worms.

At most I could envision a prospective buyer wishing to have guarantees that the stadium could be easily changed in the future, but A) Until money changes hands I doubt an outside party would have much, if any, influence on the design, and; B) I'm pretty sure the most recently public designs included the possibility of increasing capacity...possibly for this very scenario.

Anyway...I can't bring myself to believe any of this.

That they are serious about a bid or that Lewis will accept?

That a serious bid is on the table.

I think we've peaked under ENIC. We've established ourselves as a 'just outside CL places' team....have a consistent public profile in Europe, a track record of finding and selling some of the best players in Europe...and have most of the ingredients in place for setting up a new stadium, without being committed to a particular stadium sponsor. I'm pretty sure there has never been a time to sell the club (well...with hindsight I guess January 2012 would have been ENIC's peak time).

This potential bid just doesn't seem very 'Spursy' to me. More likely we'll tell them to fuck off (if it's even a legitimate bid), drop way off the top teams, and end up selling to some mediocre but solid option after trying to be too clever for our own good.

Have no idea if their bid is serious or not. But I'll guess we'll find out by October 10th. At least we've got a game tomorrow, will pass the time while we wait.

Spurs statement that they did go to Cain Hoy about investment in the new stadium sounds a bit weird to me. It wouldn't be for naming rights and would they go to them rather than a normal bank for a loan? An investment bank would be looking at more of a return than the 5-6% interest we'd pay to a bank wouldn't they?

Just read that Cain Hoy Stables jocky's wore blue and white. At least they wont want to change the colour of the kit then.

We would probably be looking for equity funding to help pay for the stadium I.e gives us a £100m in return for 10% or so of the club
