Just watched. Terrible performance apart from a few but chiriches? He has had enough chances, I don't want him playing for us again.

This is the only area I'm not on the same page as the manager. Lamela, Chadli, Eriksen, Soldado has to be our preferred front 4 and given a run of games.

I thought Kane and Soldado showed enough to be considered for Southampton tonight. Might give Ade the gentle kick up the arse he could do with.

If we put on a performance and beat saints on Sunday I will have forgotten tonight and we will all go into the break happy. Poch will have justified leaving 10 out tonight if we win. That's a big if however and I'll be livid if we get beat and don't perform Sunday

Was lucky enough to get tickets to the legends lounge and seats in the east stand; met cliff jones (lovely bloke) and even he wanted Paulinho and Soldado taken off for Lennon and Ade. I still can't see why Townsend and Bentaleb get picked; they are useless!!

So you're suggesting that we shouldn't play with a system?
Uncle Buck = Tim? Tim = Uncle Buck? Mind. Blown.;)

But really though, I see where he is coming from. The football we are seeing is stale and aton of sideways passing. But I dont think that is a product of the system as much as it is a product of the players selected. The CM's like to pass sideways alot. At least Mason plays it forward. With the front 4, we dont have a man up top who plays within the team, so we have to play it sideways to get a cross in for Ade to get on the end of. Cant unlock anything when the striker doesnt link up with the AM's. IMO, that would be easily rectified if Poch would drop Ade and play Soldado. Soldado can link up well with our AM's and would be able to play within the team.

I was quite impressed with Townsend tonight. He chased back much more than I had noticed before and he also looked up to see where his team mates were. It certainly wasn't one of his best games, but if he is trying to put Poch's lessons into practice it wouldn't be. If he carries on in the same vein we will have a real winner!

Lennon and ADE nowhere near it either ! Lennon was awful when he came on and ADE didn't look interested again !! As for bentaleb don't get me started, but was there for all to see again tonight just how far off it he is

Agreed on the football... it's dross! But is that really down to the system, or the players adjusting to it? I think the same deal would happen with ANY quality manager who's looking to fix the team. It's easy for a lot of muppets to blame everything down to their burnt toast on AVB, as if it's all his fault - but the reality is that our players STILL haven't gelled yet! We wasted a season because of it, and we're pretty much starting over... only difference is that we were doing a lot better in the league and cups last season - so yeah, we've kinda regressed and it'll take time.

I think we also have way too many midfielders and that makes it harder to figure out, just who the frak can play with who. I'd cut Townsend IMMEDIATELY (he STILL doesn't get it!) and in defense, give Vlad-ster some time off to work on ... y'know, football! Bring his ass back when he's got his shit together... he's definitely not the same player we saw last season.

100% Agreed on Soldado as well... however the look on his face after he got subbed didn't look too morally inspiring. But bottom line is that it'll take this whole season, without interference for Poch to do his job. That's the price we paid for screwing around with our manager last season and I hope those who supported it are happy.

And by the way, I have too much respect for John Candy to associate him with Tim Sherwood... even as Uncle Buck!

This thread is really quite surreal to me. I thoroughly enjoyed that game and it was an excellent work-out for us.

Ok, Chiri Suicide sought one thrill too far (and should be played at DM until he learns not to be a nutter...or sold...one or the other).

But I was very happy with a bunch of guys who haven't had many matchdays together and they looked like a team on the same message.

Davies' best game for us all-in-all (no more talk that he doesn't get forward please).

Faz dominating in the air and having Ba in his pocket at set-pieces.

Townsend would have got MoM from me if Hugo hadn't shown he's from Planet Goalkeeper...a few things seem to be sinking into that tough nut of his...we'll see if it continues.

Dier, very precise in his work tonight. Very grounded, stable player.

Stambo suggesting he'll push Capoue for a place.

Bentaleb showing a more progressive side to his play overall.

Soldado: this guy is crucial to us, we're a different team with him on the field imo.

Kane still on form.

Poch making early subs.

I saw tons of positives in that game and players who are taking, more and more, to poch's ideas. The amount of times a player took a ball in motion and diverted it into their forward path and moved it on positively or ran forward with it before laying it off was fantastic. Loved that.

Oh, and Besiktas are no chumps by any means and we should have won that with a second string who have hardly played together....and would have if chiri wasn't such an extreme footballer.

This season will allow us to develop and adsorb poch's methods and I'm proper confident we're gonna be fucking shit hot next season.

So, odd thread to me...I loved that game.:D

I just watched the game on dvr as i was at work before. Streaming the game and working at the same time wasnt great today

1) Poch making early subs today was bad as they were the wrong ones to make. In fact, now that i think about it, his subs this season have rarely had a positive impact on the game outside of mason in the forest match.
2) I keep hearing next season this, next season that. Its bullshit. Verts and Lloris will not be here next season if we cannot get CL so we'll be worse off next year.
3) Yeah, i didnt see anything different from Andros today. Bentaleb didnt do much for me either outside of the goal.

That, especially, is very strange to me and a good few others seem to have the same view as you.

To me there was a sea change in his overall play tonight (will take a lot more to convince me that he's properly turned a corner though. Fool me once....)

I'm starting to think the mentality of the fans, in general, is seriously negative/damaged. Understandable after the mess of last season but it's beginning to piss me off a bit as it's obscuring points of progress.

Or people see things differently? Andros doesnt play with this head up and is not a smart footballer. Simple as that. Really, nothings different in his play from his "good" spell last year before the injury. The difference is last year he was the only one attacking with his pace in a rather dross team. The end product, or lack thereof, hasnt changed. Its really a shame because he's young enough to be able to develop and get better. He just doesnt for some reason.

Clearly some of that going on.

I thought Andros showed there is a a chink of light, in that game. Was pleased with his performance.

He'll probably go back into bonehead mode next game though knowing him.

Townsend always trying to do too much. There were a few times when he beat one man and then tried to take on another and lost the ball. One of the times he could have slipped the ball in to Soldado but lost the ball. Soldado through his hands up in the air. Townsend is a glory hound, always looking to get a shot off even if there are better options available.

Lennon again deployed on the left. Paulinho as a right sided midfielder. Adebayor coming on for Soldado. Vlad getting 90 minutes. Can't say Poch covered himself in glory last night.

Would really like to see Soldado getting some starts in the league now. Adebayor hardly jogging upfield to support Harry Kane after two minutes on the field was the final straw for me. Soldado on the other hand, did well with what he got.
