We really need players who can dictate play in central midfield.

Massively disappointed in Lo Celso, thought he was meant to be that player - in fact he does this for Argentina but for Spurs he has absolutely no identity, I don't even know what kind of player he is meant to be.

Instead of saying Kane is pivotal to the team would it be better to demand that we sign a creative midfielder or at least one who can dictate from deep?
Who do you replace in CM?

Dele is our best goal scoring threat from CM.

Skippy is the best CDM we have in the squad.

Hojbjerg is the most consistent of the three CMs.

Easy. Skipp.

He isn't ready to be a first choice first teamer, and in the short term the obvious position to upgrade if we are looking to upgrade today's midfield.

I think Skipp is more important, and better, in his role than Hojbjerg is in his new role.

I think to replace Skippy you need to find an extremely versatile CDM who has the mobility to play as the base of the inverted triangle and protect the defense while also being charged with being a deep-lying playmaker. I don’t know who fits that criteria, but they would be expensive.

If we start playing like we did today consistently but the results go from narrow wins to narrow defeats, the knives will be out for Nuno.

I was hoping we would see a different style of football, but it seems Jose ball counter attacking again.

For me, performances more than results, are what I look to for evidence of improvement and being able to see some success and hopefully trophies.

I think today posed more questions than answers. Against a better team with a finisher we'd have got thumped.

We look more organised and work harder than we did under Jose, but there is so much lack of quality across the pitch. The midfield is workman like but has no guile or skill.

It really is a huge week. I can only hope we sign at least 3 players who walk straight into our first team.

They need to be a CM, CB, a RB, a RWF and a back up striker. I know we won't get all of these, but that is what we need.
There is a balance to it.

Wolves for example have played wonderful football first 2 games and have 0 pts.

I enjoyed how we played vs man.city it wasn’t just sit back and counter. Today was tough but I think once the Kane saga is sorted and we make 3-4 new signings the team will be much more balanced and exciting anyways.

I like the 4-3-3 formation and the effort of the players and the atmosphere with the players and fans is much more positive than under Jose as Nuno isn’t leaving players out of squads and dropping them and digging them out in the media left right and centre.

I agree the football wasn’t ideal today but give it time, there is a balance to be had and given the players Nuno currently has available he’s got 2 brilliant hard taught results.

Remember folks. We had performances like this under Poch in his first season. We were all grumbling then as well. Back then - as with now - we were a shambles with lots of players we wanted out, some that were poisonous for morale. Then, it just clicked. Patience is needed. It won't be possible to sustain the levels of effort we put in against City every game. At least not for a while and everyone is up to speed.

Sorry my bad, when he said battered us I didn't realise he meant they forced our keeper to make a save.

Yeah in that case, they battered us to a 1-0 defeat.

Agreed. We didn't get battered. A fair result would have been 1-1. But it wasn't due to Lloris save. I was just surprised that you had to conveniently leave out that Lloris had to pull off a worldy for us to win the match, that's all.

I think the problem is more that people have very fresh memories of countless games under Jose that were a carbon copy of this one.

we’re all obviously emotionally scarred by that so when we see us losing every 50/50 battle, Lloris saving our asses and literally no attacking patterns of play then it’s definitely a trigger for some.

let’s hope it’s just a blip but we really need tofreshen this squad up.

Hasn’t really had an extended run in any one position - he has played some games as a 10, some as an 8, a few as a 6, some out wide as an auxiliary defender others out wide as one of the wing forwards. Add in his tendency for picking up niggling injuries and you can see why he looks a bit lost as a Spurs player. Bad luck and bad management have certainly played a part, because as you say he looks a player for Argentina and he shows flashes for us

His best position would probably be the role that Dele is currently being deployed in, but against certain opposition a bit deeper with either Skipp or Højberg could really help our ball retention and the tempo of our play. But at the moment he is a frustrating enigma

6 points :)
We played two hard games, we need to improve our squad and starting 11 but we still have 6 points!
We need to play better but we have an away win and a home win on the board!

1-1 was fair because we only scored an actual 'goal' whilst they forced our goalkeeper to make a save ?(what he is there for btw)

Surely then the Kane, bergwijn, son and dier saves should count in our favour for a 5-1 win if we are counting saves too though?

The mindset is the problem. When the opposition fails to score because they can't shoot straight, or because the goalkeeper makes an acrobatic save, it counts as a defensive error, a failure of our own players and goal we should have conceded.

When Spurs fail to score because we can't shoot straight, or because the goalkeeper makes an acrobatic save, it counts as an attacking error and a goal we should have scored, except for a failure of our own players.

Done watching the game. 3 points might be what this game was for me. It was a decent performance but I thought Wolves deserved much more. They will be a joy to watch this season, exactly how I wish we would play, but naah it will be more counter attacking yet again, which as soon as we don't have the results go our way it will be a though watch.

Sanchez, Dier, Bergwijn, Reggy all very good today.

Let's see what happens in the final week.

I'm hoping that Nuno is simply well versed in knowing when the best team to play attacking is and when the best team to be more counter attacking. I'm very hopeful we'll see front foot football vs Watford.

The consensus before kick off was we'd have to break wolves deep defence :ROFLMAO:

The result was great and the grit and show of resolve was good too. But we were given a run around there. If bergwifn and Moura aren't at it in possession, it's very difficult to get a foothold on possession. Needs to be much better. But I dont think GLC could be trusted to take any of the 5 midfield spots.

Lots for Nuno to work on, including his own in game management where he did precious little to change the dynamic.
