Yeah, it was terrible what he did against Southampton.

Adebayor running to the channels has benefitted Chadli in getting in the middle.

Yeah it was, he was pretty dire that game. Even if you just rewatch the MOTD highlights I'm pretty sure you'll see Soldado involved in all our chances. Plus he got the assist which it seems everyone has forgotten

I like what Soldado can do when he gets the ball as he always seems to use it intelligently and either create a chance or put a player into a good position for a cross. unfortunately he doesn't seem to see enough of the ball and he's still not scoring.

No, his lack of discipline up front and constant running on the wings was having a negative effect on the shape of the team and using up the space for the wingers to run into

I am no expert (you don't have to agree with that!) but i thought that the forward three are "fluid" in as much as they can move around and have the freedom to switch wings, positions and in general open up space for each other?

That all said, and without wanting opening up old wounds, under AVB and Poch the 4-2-3-1 system is not appearing to produce an abundance of goals irrespective of who leads the line?

I haven't done any checking but i would suspect for good or worse we scored more goals in Sherwood's system than AVB or Poch. This i hasten to add is no endorsement for Sherwood or a negative post on Poch.

I have always thought that we should be playing 4-3-3 anyway, giving us an extra point of play higher up the pitch?

I like Bobby and so do plenty of others which is great,he had a decent game apart from the pen,his link up play is & his touch is good. But lets not shy away from the fact he has failed to deliver for us.
What i find funny is people are always backing this guy which again is nice & so on,but when we actually have had strikers recently who knew how score on a regular basis they are given dogs abuse! the likes of Crouch & Pavlyuchenko spring to mind & were slated on here and on the terraces yet they both found the net regular, even Defoe got his fair bit of stick also.
I would swap any of the 3 mentioned strikers for the 3 we have now any day of the week.

Eriksen Lamela and Chadli with Soldado is a proper lightweight attack IMO, dont see it becoming a fixture. I'm as fed up of Ade as the next man but I dont see Poch going with that attack, with the exception of Chadli its too small and weak.

Fuck me Bobby, everyone misses a penalty at some point in their careers. Even I did...once. :)

His confidence is shot. But he seems as eager as anyone not to let his head drop. Needs a run. It's vital he's given an opportunity to atone for the miss.
Am not having a go at you here Good Doctor M, but i can't agree that his confidence is shot.
Throughout all his time with us, i've not ever seen him show the hallmarks of someone playing without confidence (caveat, i am not a confidence-in-football expert). he's never hogged the ball and tried to force opportunities for himself - when the pass has been better option, he takes it; he plays simple balls, but also simple balls with flair (plenty of back heel passes); he never shys from receiving the ball, will run wide (again to his scoring detriment); always steps up for penalties.

But how often does he shoot? Thats the part of his game that lacks confidence.

i think he shoots appropriately.
he also is not a forward who drops and creates his own chances, or shoots from long range. He shoots from inside the box, preferentially from (low) crosses. we don't give him that to work with.

He is another player like Holtby who has underperformed consistently but knows how to use social media to his advantage to keep the fans onside.

An apology here some pics of baby clothes there and it doesn't matter how many I miss or how poor I play for 18mths someone will always find an excuse to cover me
Great point, but I think Lamela is even worse..Baldini should not be trust with money for a cup of tea. Bloody Fazio is terrible and we will be lucky to anything back. Who the hell pays 24 Mill for player that is 28 and unproven in the EPL. FOH!!

The one in which Soldado was far from 'rubbish'.

Missing a penalty and other good chances while stringing a few decent passes together is still a rubbish performance in my book. Clearly it's not in yours. I hope those great passes give you satisfaction when the seasons finished and we're nowhere near the Champions League places, below Liverpool, Arsenal and possibly even Southampton.

You mean setting up our goal and creating our best chance of the match which should have resulted in a goal? Trouble is, you'd already decided he'd had a rubbish game when the teams were announced.

...and missing a penalty, and other good chances. Nothing would please me more than to see him become the leagues top scorer. Sadly, he won't even end up the clubs top scorer this year. Still, those passes, so wonderfully mid-table. Enjoy

What chances did he miss? FFS. He had one saved which was a difficult chance considering he almost had to scissor kick just to get to it

Chances? Aside from the one Hart saved with his legs (which he actually did incredibly well to get such a clean strike on target as the cross was well behind him) what other chances did he miss?

I might be inclined to believe you if everything else you said wasn't such complete and utter agenda-driven horseshit.

Come on, I would have thought the self-proclaimed one of the most intelligent people on the forum could do better than that.

...lol @ agenda-driven horseshit. Would love to hear you conspiracy theories as to what my agenda is.

Check my old posts, I was delighted when we brought Soldado and thought he would be the 30 goal a season striker we've been crying out for. I get it wrong sometimes though and people need to realise when they are wrong too. I've seen enough to know it won't happen with Soldado now. Talented nice guy that he is, the rough and tumble of the Prem is too much for him. Whether you believe me or not don't blame me or anyone else when this all plays out to be true. Soldado has had more than enough chances to prove himself already.

Those chances you mention would have been put away nicely by other 30m pound strikers....Diego Costa for example. Reckon Kane would have stuck at least one of them or the penalty away.
