It's a bit chicken and egg. The players were clearly terrified of trying anything on Sunday. Even Mason who actually tried to get the ball forward throughout got booed in the second half for his mistakes.

That said, the tactics and some of the decision making, in particular by our two centre backs, was appalling and seemed to justify the half-time expression of dissatisfaction.

I think it's going to take Poch working hard on the defensive aspect of our game and a bit of luck going forward (i.e. scoring first) for the booing/confidence problem to slowly wane. It really was a bloody miserable day at WHL yesterday.

Well done to the Park Lane for trying to keep it cheerful every now and then.

I know, we should boo them to let them know how we feel.

But then their heads will drop and our play is rubbish

I know, we should cheer them from the first whistle.

But then they play like they do every week and our play is rubbish.

Ade seems to have forgotten that it was the away fans at Villa who were shouting for Kane to come on, and cheered when he was taken off. So it seems it's the spurs home and away fans, and like he admits, fans at every other club he's been at.

Maybe he should take a look at himself if it's so common for him to come up against booing.

That being said, I HATE it when our fans boo. Positivity will get you a lot further. And at the very least, it makes opposing teams think you've got a great fan base.

But again, it's a lot easier to sit down and boo as an individual, which you're allowed to do, than stand up and sing as a group, which you're not allowed to do.
Add in the high ticket prices, and the wages players are on, and it's obvious people will start saying 'we deserve more from you on the pitch'.

It's difficult, the boo advocates have valid reasons, but the boo haters would produce a much better atmosphere and at least improve morale. If nothing else. Booing very rarely produces anything useful.

It's not too much to ask for the fans to get behind the team. No matter how much money you earn having people abusing you for every tiny mistake is going to have an affect.

I think ade has taken one for the team coming out and saying this. He knows some people will abuse him even more and done it any way.

Our team is a confidence team (I realise this is not a good thing, but it is what it is). Until we can get some players in that change this we need to boost their confidence. The away fans showed how it can work at villa and are generally top quality. We should take a leaf out of their book.

Your'e right, it should'nt be too much to ask for the fans the get behind the team.

But it's also not to much to ask for the players to play like they give a shit and put in a bit of effort.

.......

I know your'e probably being sarcastic, but what else can the fans do?

Not going to the game is'nt an option for many, like me, who have season tickets and have payed upfront for the season.

I don't boo, but surely the fans have a right to voice their displeasure at the lack of effort and professionalism they are seeing at the Lane.

how about new chants instead of booing

He ran 70 m and scored
he scored
One of you ****s was supposed to tackle him
before he ran 70m and scored

Pass to someone in white
pass to somoen in whte
please don't do circles on the spot
it gives us a fright

The aim is to score, the aim is to score
if only we stopped booing
then one of these ****s might score

Being a spurs fan is a bit like being an abused housewife, except continuing to support the other half unconditionally is actually the optimum solution rather than the worst thing to do.

Ade has a very good point. WHL has been far too negative for years. We can only take so much of the blame though, it's about time the players stop making excuses about fans, the pitch and tiredness and just grow a pair and have a bit of professional pride.

I've never booed at WHL but the sheer number of ridiculous schoolboy errors and subpar performances have really tested my love for the club this season. It is just ducking awful if we are all honest. The only player I truly care for us Hugo and I almost want him to get out of the club for his own sake.

In any other profession we'd be considering negligence from quite a few people at this club. It's a true mess from top to bottom...

We're part of the problem but there are far bigger ones

I feel like it's mutually abusive, to be honest. Yes, they have a lot of things to answer for but I believe we set the agenda.

I've seen people on here turn against new players before they've even kicked a ball for us because they may not have been first choice. Players get no opportunity to grow in the side, get experience and have any leeway. They're constantly on edge, waiting to be pilloried. Little wonder they seem to shrug and stop bothering. So fans boo and criticise more. And the players care even less. And so on.

We anticipate failure and mediocrity and create our own mood music of misery.

Well I guess it comes down to expectations.

Back in the day they used to get behind the team through thick and thin. If we were in a relegation dog fight would we still boo and jeer or would we get behind the team so their heads don't drop.

I'm only 34 but in all honestly, most of the players are just kids.

Also having the right to boo doesn't mean you have to exercise that right constantly when a player makes a little mistake. Save the booing for the final whistle if we've lost the game.

The atmosphere at the lane is horrible. That much is for sure. But it doesn't help when the players turn in such weak performances. What happened to the days when players actually had something to prove? Why shouldn't the fans booing them be cause enough for them to step up and be counted? Where are the men in Tottenham Hotspur?

Oi Adebayor, how about apologizing for the team that is serving up dogshit football week in and week out? How about putting a full shift in you ***? How about telling us the team will play harder and make more effort in future in order to, you know, win games?

If not then just fuck off and don't come back.

I hope someone prints off this thread and mails it to him. Useless tosser.

The truth is somewhere between the two extremes. The fans need to be more patient and supportive. The players need to be mentally stronger. When things go bad and the crowd turn against you, that's when you need to dig in, put that big 'ol chip on your shoulder and show determination.

I'm not sure a lot of the booing is down to expectation, although our season in the CL under Harry has probably raised the expectations of some.

Walking away from the game yesterday and a lot of the conversations were'nt about the result, most of the conversations I heard were about the lack of passion and desire shown by the players.

I don't go to the Lane expecting us to win every game, but surely a bit of passion and desire from all the players is the least we should expect.

For me, putting a shift in every game and looking like you give a shit is a key reason why Lloris, Kane and Mason are the most popular players amongst the crowd and get the largest cheers when their names are read out. Naughton yesterday took a red card for the team to give us the chance of getting an equaliser and not going another goal down and got a standing ovation from the crowd, showing that he gave a shit about the result.
