I reckon Archway accepted the original offer with Younes Kaboul thrown in...on the basis that Spurs pay for his fork lift license.

I seriously doubt we'd reach a settlement now, not after all this shit.

They seem intent on going down this route.

I wander what the steelworks family are actually holding out for? Sure levy should just roll over and give em what they want?

The club should pay what they think it's worth. Clearly they have an incentive to pay above whatever figure the courts will set but clearly it's not worth writing a blank cheque. The question is how much are the delays costing us? Probably very little. You could argue that the main cost is the income we're potentially losing out on by not having a larger stadium. I would say that all this does is delay our progress as a club. We'll get there eventually, how much is having the same success sooner worth to us?

I believe that ASMW are taking a huge gamble here. The club must be offering a decent figure above the market price and ASMW stand to lose that by trying to force the clubs hand. I really don't believe that they want to stay, I think it's a question of how much they can get.

Speaking as a lawyer (although in a different field and country!), the issue with settlements is that it's always a matter of negotiation and cost-benefit. Archway are definitely taking a gamble in not taking whatever money is (or perhaps was) on the table. Going to court is never a shoe-in for either party. But Archway doesn't have as deep pockets as Spurs do. Spurs will eventually win, one way or the other. Perfect result for Archway would be that they win their case, court orders the CPO to be re-done and Archway are back in the driver's seat with respect to demanding a better compensation from Spurs. If I was Spurs, I would simply offer them an improved amount and hope that they bite. Knowing Levy, this probably won't happen though.

Ultimately I don't know what Archway really think they'll achieve from this unless they genuinely have cause to believe that a. Spurs have offered them an amount well below the market value, b. their business would be hugely and irretrievably disadvantaged by moving (unlikely, they are hardly a business benefitting from huge passing trade!), and/or c. they have cause to suspect that a CPO or those involved in it will substantially undervalue their property. I suspect there is an element of secret option d. which is that they have been negotiating with Levy for the best part of a decade and as a result don't like him and/or believe that any offer he is making is an insult regardless of its size based on how they may now perceive him.

However, given that we have negotiated to buy all of the properties around the site without this trouble, I suspect that even if we went in too low at the outset (always happens) we have eventually paid a fair rate, possibly even a premium on many of the other properties. As Archway are now the last ones, a position they were no-doubt aiming for, I suspect that they wanted (and had/have) an excellent bargaining position allowing them to push for that little bit more to get the deal closed. This I suspect has now gone as it has gone to a CPO. In fact I suspect that Archway are upset at what the CPO has been set at and want to try and extract whatever amount Levy has offered in the past. Also, bet we have now reduced our 'final' settlement offer and they are now going to fight to get whatever they can.

I am no Levy apologist, as some of you will probably know/remember(?), but I don't really know what Archway expect to acheive. They will either land themselves in the middle of an area which has had a number of surrounding businesses disappear, as a sort of lone beacon of stubborness, or they will ultimately be removed and I doubt they will get much more money, particularly after legal fees are considered. Whoever is advising them I think is only looking after their own back pocket and in reality they just need to acheive whatever it takes to allow them to set-up elsewhere and continue to trade. The more they hurt Spurs the harder it becomes for us to build and the less likely they will see any more money.

I'm sure they will move regardless. For financial gain or otherwise. All you have to do is look at the photographs to see they'll have to go - even if 'eventually'. No amount of financial gain or even human rights issues will allow them to stay where they are. Bleat all they want this is just about level of compensation, greed or grievance. Get the f*** on with it! Not talking about the club, the council - just the amount of time it takes the correct processes in the correct order.

Comon Spurger how long have you known me? I've never been serious.

I distinctly remember you being Serious. It was in Bath at Komedia and you put on a one man play of the making of Young Einstein. I think you called it "The Genius of Genius" and among your many characters were writer, director and actor Yahoo Serious.

So you owe Spurger an apology.

For the record, Lilbaz was very good and the Metro called his performance "cancelled"
