Can anybody who booed Adebayor explain why they booed him?

Still banging the merchandise drum I see. Let it go, mate.

Still banging the Soldado drum? You should have let it go a long time ago. To be honest this thread is about booing Adebayor, if you want to be telling people to 'let it go', stop bringing up Soldado when he isn't the issue here: moronic fans booing their own is the issue.

It's clear that the management don't want him in the squad (to the extent we were prepared to let him go without a replacement) and yet it sounds like he turned down an opportunity to go and play football at QPR for the rest of the season.

Obviously that is just based on news reports etc so if it's not true then fair enough, but it does suggest that he's not that interested in playing football which is not exactly the first time he's had that accusation levelled at him.

I think we were all just waiting for the point where he'd settle at Spurs and finally show that he can be consistently a useful asset rather than a disruptive influence.

Any hope of that seems to have gone now, and yet he doesn't appear to want to leave either, so I can see why people are frustrated.

But I still wouldn't boo him.

Yeah that's fair enough, can't say I really blame him for not wanting to go to QPR, and if it's true that Levy blocked the deal to WH due to wages, I guess we're potentially guilty of wanting to have our cake and eat it.

Coming from the bloke who brought up Soldado in the Adebayor thread?

Whats wrong with that? Just putting the booing in some sort of context that maybe people would prefer a try hard like Soldado in the team instead?

Read my reply to @Spurs_Bear. Pretty valid point I thought.

Well it looks as if the boo boys are going to get even more opportunities.
Couldn't sell him because we had no replacement for him.

It's probably one of the stupidest things people ever say about Soldado. He does not try hard at all. And in any case, Soldado is a red herring in this matter. People don't boo Adebayor because they prefer Soldado. What proof is there of that? You just can't laugh at yourself and accept that SB was just having an affable dig at your interest in Soldado's family life.

Because it's been done to death, and the 'try hard' part isn't even true. You've admitted you like Soldado because he's 'nice' and that's why you want him in the team.

I'd prefer to just leave that nonsense out of this thread and talk about why we are booing someone who wears our shirt.

I can't say I blame him they are second from bottom. He could become even more of a disruptive influence now, that the person he says is like a brother doesn't want him at the club.

He does try hard. Sorry your incredible hatred towards him allows you not to see it.

Grow up. Who the fuck do you think you are saying I 'hate' a Spurs player? I have supported him up and down the country, as well as any other player who puts on a Spurs shirt. I want him and the team to do well, but he doesn't play well enough more often than not and isn't good enough as a modern day number nine.

Show me evidence that I hate him. Show me evidence of how he tries hard. To the extent you can't, jog on.

Why don't you blame him for not wanting to go to QPR? It was clearly a loan deal and by the sounds of it we'd have paid his wages.

Obviously people can't be angry with him about West Ham because we vetoed that, but with QPR I just can't really see his justification, and now that he's turned that down he can't expect any minutes with us in my opinion.

Maybe he wants to play for Spurs.

What a scumbag.

We're in the COC final, if Kane gets injured between now and then he's got a chance of playing or at least being on the bench at Wembley depending on who Poch would choose. We're also 5th in the league and challenging at the right end, we have world class facilities at our training ground etc. What do QPR have? And it's all well and good saying, "but a player should want to play football", but before West Brom on Saturday he had made 3 appearances (starting or on the bench) in the last 4 games.

If it was a straight choice between all that and going to QPR with a dogshit little ground, and fighting a relegation battle, is anyone genuinely surprised?

I'm not saying I'm glad he didn't go, I'm questioning why it appears we're laying the blame at his door. If all we wanted was to get shot of him then Levy should have let him go to West Ham, would have made more sense than just to let him rot in the reserves paying him the same wages anyway.

The reason I asked the question in the first place was I don't get why the events of yesterday have made his position any more untenable than it was before the start of the window.

But I think @Mullers has got it spot on, it's more to do with the fact people love to hang their hat on a rumour, and for many they are just disappointed that for whatever reason he is still here with us, that's where the vitriol is coming from.

And if he does and if he's expressed that to Poch and the gang then absolutely fair enough.

But I think that would be a fairly major shift in the way he approaches the game at this relatively late stage in his career so it would be surprising.

I think you're right that people are just frustrated with the window generally, and the outlet for that is, perhaps unfairly, being centred on Adebayor.

I think a lot of it depends on what he's been told about his position at Spurs going forwards. If he's expressed an interest in playing, and if Poch is willing to play him, then assuming he doesn't pull his normal tricks then there's little harm in him staying.

But from the events yesterday it seems to me fairly clear that Poch doesn't want him in the squad at all and therefore it looks like he's chosen to sit and play the odd 15-20 mins at Spurs in the next 5 months instead of going somewhere where he would play regularly. And that for me is in keeping with his general approach to football throughout his career, and that's probably why he's an easy (if not always justified) target for vitriol.

According to the Telegraph:

Adebayor turned down moves to Palace and QPR who were offering circa £60k a week towards his wages which Levy was happy with, however Levy point blankly refused to subsidise any wages if he moved to West Ham.

Re paragraph one, absolutely.

I have no reason to think that would be a major shift. He has played for six different clubs in his career. He's clearly an odd character, and more complex than you're average footballer partly because he doesn't help himself I don't think, partly because of what he's gone through, but I wouldn't say he's been happy to sit out his contract. Excuse the clumsy sentence.

As SB alluded to, I'd rather have him on the bench if needs be to get a goal or protect a lead than have him at another club for the next four months. And if Kane gets injured, he and Poch will need to earn their money to really step up.
