He really was pretty shoddy again tbh. I'm surprised pochetino is giving him so much time on the pitch, and subbing townsend off before this guy. Townsend is currently offering more and the gap seems to increasing.
Poor decision making from him again today, in particular on the counter with kane sprinting forward ahead of him but still surrounded, and lamela just kicks it at him instead of waiting for the right pass. He gets rid of the ball like its a hot potato because he does not believe in himself, so how can we believe in him?
What game did you watch and I'm being serious here?

Hahahahahahahaha. Townsend is Lennon 2.0. Beyond useless.

He didn't have a good game today, but was certainly better than Townsend who was dreadful (as he has been all season) and Dembele who after having performed well of late had one of those games where he looked like he'd had half of his brain removed. I also think lamela has potential to improve as he gets more experienced in this league. I have no such hope for Townsend who seems like a top Tottenham boy but simply isn't good enough to play for us.

So did you guys not watch the fiorentina game then? Townsend was probably our best player (i think fiorentina players would agree) before getting subbed for lamela who came on and did precisely jack shit apart from lose possession. Stop letting your prejudices blind you to new evidence. Lamela is going nowhere or getting worse and but there are encouraging things from townsend.

What narrative he was a fucking total passenger today, jesus if people were impressed by his performace today god help us he was shite. He needs to adapt fast to this league he has been here long enough, he wont get the time he seems to want on the ball. Not to mention how weak he is he is brushed of the ball so easily.
The Adjective to describe him is non desript was tempted by pointless but resisted

I agree that Lamela right now is not progressing and a lot of people just keep talking about his age and talent and glimpses of shit but he hasn't lit anything up. But the Townsend quote I can't agree with. Sooner we get rid of him and get a proper good right winger in the better.

I'll be honest and admit i was skiing last week so did miss the Fiorentina game but as a season ticket holder who also goes away on occasions and has a sky subscription I've seen just about every other minute of Townsend in a spurs shirt. I'm pleased to hear he had a good game as I'd like nothing more than for him to prove me wrong as other players have in the past ie Kane who I wasn't convinced would make it. Just out of interest in this 'man of the match' performance did he get an assist or goal to add to his stunning tally (penalties aside) that he has this year?

Also just out of interest can you enlighten me as to what these prejudices are that I have?

So the fact that Townsend was awful today and Lamela was better than him means nothing? But the fact that Townsend was better than Lamela on Thursday is super important 'new evidence'?

You can see the fault in your logic, right?

Right?

We keep hearing Lamela is going to get better, he is young and so on but there has been very very little progress. He looks very weak in this league brushed of the ball very easily week in week out.

I still think towards need to play more central he's both footed I think he wasted on the wings.

Sneaking suspicion that the fans that love Townsend are the same fans who love Sherwood, and the same fans who love Nigel farage ;)

Are you saying Lamela can play with both feet? Cause if thats the case I would like to see him play with both feet. One of the most one footed players I have seen.

He did against Brighton with his right.
Most players tend to play with there stronger foot.
But he needs to work on his right peg a lot more.

I thought he did OK today in the second half. He frequently drifts into pockets of space and then doesn't receive the ball.

Our play today reminded me of the slow tepid efforts at the end of AVB's reign and I don't think that suits Erik - or for that matter any of our front players. We made things easy for West Ham today.

I thought Erik's work rate, bravery to show for the ball and attemps to be creative right to the final minute were a real credit to him.

I also think people see Andros go past a player and are massively impressed, the fact that he rarely does anything when he goes past is forgotten.

All in all Erik isn't a winger, inverted or otherwise.
