I'm very sceptical to man management skills which consists of having 6 CM's and using 2 (maybe 3) of them, whilst still waiting for a new one. And the new guy can't be this or that with a certain set of skills, not he must be French, born in 89 and have played a few seasons for a PL team who at best has competed for top 8.

I'm not against signing Schneiderlin, but for 25M there must be a host of eligible players out there. Even our own squad contains candidates worth trying out more.

The answers simpls.. ifhecomes to us & Poch wants him . then Schneiderlin & Bentaleb in midfield, Mason pushed to number 10 (as in his youth days).. Eriksen on the left ..

Would rather we tested waters with Yohan Cabaye, not sure we could get him without CL though

Think he is a wonderful player. Interesting though that a number of Saints fans I have spoken with this year actually rate Wanyama as the key to their success.

Wanyama and Mane have both been exceptional for Southampton

I can't believe we would spend serious money on a position which isn't our priority, we should be looking at bringing in a top quality centre half first, and then some attackers to help Kane before we buy a holding player, especially at what he would cost.

Depends who we can shift in the summer. As others have said Poch won't change formation. So our current options for the 2 in midfield are:

Mason
Bentaleb
Capoue
Paulinho
Dembele
Stambouli

Add to that Carroll returning from loan and Alli. Then other youth options possibly in Winks and Veljkovic.

For a 4231 you probably only need 4 first team players for the "2" or 5 players max and then youth options will provide the cover.

Pretty clear Mason and Bentaleb will be in the plans. I think if we could shift Capoue, Paulinho and Stambouli they'd be gone, Dembele hasn't been involved much but is a bit more versatile. Still think Poch would move him on if an acceptable offer comes in.

So if all went to plan then our main 4 players for the 2 central positions could be:

Mason
Bentaleb
Schneiderlin
Dembele

Carroll, Alli, Veljkovic as cover. Maybe Winks will get a loan.

Not really sure if those 4 options in midfield are good enough for where we want to get to though.

if they're not then there's no point in dropping 25 big ones on schneiderlin. instead we should be looking to develop the likes of veljkovic and alli into players who can become good enough for where we want to be.

I haven't really watched Saints full games that much so I really don't know if Scneiderlin is worth that kind of cash or not. But he does have more experience than most of our other midfielders and does seem like a decent player but I'm just not convinced how much he could actually improve us. But I probably haven't watched him closely enough. If Stambouli was given a chance could he do a similar job? Would rather spend that amount of money on a wide forward.

He's more of a Wanyama type player really - the more defensive minded, breaking up play guy. He doesn't seem like like an equivalent type of player to Schneiderlin at all to me.

In view of some pretty tepid recent performances by our midfield, I'd say that if Stambouli was going to be given a chance, he would have had it by now. If Paulinho is in front of him it seems pretty hopeless to expect him to get a game.
