After yesterday game against Soton, whats your thoughts on Schneiderlin?

Is he someone that is an upgrade on what we already have?

I've said all along that while he is certainly a good player, anything over 15m and we are getting ripped off.

There are players in every team that play that role. Personally I don't see what makes him that different from Bentaleb and I'd rather let him grow as a player.

I believe that with Bentaleb, Mason, Stambouli, Dembele, and now Alli (+maybe Capoue/Paulinho), the DM/CM spots are the least of our concerns, we are at the very least solid there, if unspectacular. I think signing two quality wingers and maybe another CB is a far more necessary transfer.

He got beasted by Bentaleb yesterday.

The priority should be switching to 4-3-3 with a dedicated DM, not pointlessly changing the personnel yet again to try to fix a fundamentally broken system.

We need to figure out what to do with Bentaleb first, I personally think Bentaleb looks better in the box to box role that Schneiderlin did for Poch and so don't see the point in spending the money on him.

What we are desperate for is destroyer defensive CM who can play alongside Bentaleb.

I saw a stat earlier that we have scored the most goals in the Premier League (31) in 2015 Yet we have conceded 25.

Stopping the goals and protecting the defence is what we need to improve on

I'd like to see a 3 man midfield.
I wouldn't judge a player on 1 game though.
There doing something right at Southampton, best defence in the league isn't down to luck.

I agree, to do that is laughable.

He also scores a few goals which is something we don't really get from Bentaleb or Mason. A player who can chip in half a dozen or so goals in that position would make a big difference. If either of our current pair can make that improvement next season all well and good, I can maybe see Mason doing that but not sure about Bentaleb who is fast starting to remind me of Ray Wilkins with blinkers on. Hopefully some natural progression will occur with both players. If one or both start to chip in with a few goals and Bentaleb stops his habit of passing sideways blind then its all good.

So would I sign Schneiderlin? Probably, yes.

For the £25-30m Saints will ask.....? So much for our supposed scouting team and Mitchell if the best they can come up with is MS for that price!!!!

The question is is it the continuation of work Poch implemented or (more likely imo) the rapid improvements that Koeman (a world class all time great defender) has?

If Poch started it all, great, we can expect ourselves to grow in to a well oiled unit working hard to be better than the sum of its parts (with in my eyes better parts)

If it's Koeman who has made the difference with his signings and tactics - then Levy dropped the ball appointing Poch and Southampton were far more savvy with their managerial recruitment

I suppose another big factor is Southampton's recruitment, so other people have been involved (one key member is now with us too) and our recruitment in the last 4 windows has been pretty terrible.

I really hope Poch can mould this group of players into a strong, hard working unit with time and the right investment but if I had to bet on who will go on to have the better managerial career long time I would put my money on Koeman (although much of this is based on what a great leader he was as a player)

As for Schniderland - excellent player, but for me we need to retort to making those types of signings when clubs like Southampton make them, as with Benteke (we should have signed him when they did) not after they've proven themselves with a EPL club and trebled in value

I'd prefer us look else where and scout a gem who will go on to be a >£20m player rather than trying to sign them once they're established at that level

Schneiderlein has been excellent again this system. If Poch really wants him then we should put in an offer even if it isn't great value for money.

If we are buying Wimmer then I'd happily see us sign one midfielder and 2 forwards in the summer and be done.

Might as well try and get the right ones.

I was at the match yesterday. He'd be fantastic for us. Defensively his positioning is top class. Probably one of the best In terms of shielding his CBs. Don't expect him to play defence splitting passes but his ball retention and choice of pass are always spot on! He keeps it simple and allows Southampton to win possession and build attacks. Would love him in front of our defence.

In fairness we did try and sign schniederlin for a few million about 4 years ago but he wanted to stay at Southampton. When he originally went there we were in for him along with Man U, arsenal etc.

This. Would be a great partner for Bentaleb IMO.

Yup, big fan of his.

He'd really help with the defensive aspect of our game shielding the back 4.

C'mon now, he's miles better than Mason, so of course we should sign him. He'll cost because he's Prem proven, which would save us the risk of possibly chucking 15m down the drain on a player that looks good in another league but cant do it in this one.
