latest from jasper on so: Is true [trippier], don't be surprised to see Ings, though not my choice. Good early sensible business, may release the extra cash to get MS, told we want one of his compatriots who is a forward, may be bit complicated but possible though not a certainty.

Compatriots meaning French players or compatriots meaning Southampton players? Ayew? Thauvin?

Isn't Ayew Ghanaian? Compatriot surely means of same nationality so I'd assume as Schniderland is French it means French players rather than people playing in the French league

We've been linked with a whole load of Marseille players. Gignac and those two mentioned above.

Those comments about looking for some players with premiership experience seem to be true, MS, Ings and Trippier would be really smart signings.

Keiran Trippier & Ings would be brilliant business.
Template is very clear - has to be team player , hard worker & young hungry player who is technically sound as well

Not sold on Ings... I know most are keen but I don't really get the hype. Don't get me wrong, he a good player but I just don't really see him being a significant step up. I'm much more for us signing two or three starters rather than bolstering the squad.... we have plenty of squad players but not enough players who truly command their position.

Which is great and certainly what we need but I think it's also important for us to address the lack of experience/leadership/winning mentality we have in the squad as a whole and look to bring someone in who can mentor the young talent and show them how to be winners, get the game by the scruff of the neck and rally the troops when needed

His movement and workrate has been superb this season. Whether he can integrate himself into a team that works possession high up the pitch remains to be seen

But in terms of goals, he's surely a big step-up from Solly and Ade.

Yes - my bad. I was getting all the French league players confused as we have been linked to many from Marseille.

Would be happy with Trippier, not a glamour player but the solid hard working type we need

Instead of taking gambles on foreign players who look great on you tube, we need to focus on experienced premiership players, and Trippier and Ings and MS are

I agree, but we won't be looking for a starting Striker as Kane will hopefully be that for the next 10 years. We don't need a 'step up' in the striker department, unless you know of another U21 striker who has scored more than 30 goals in one season.

Martial would be a great signing. Has serious pace, can play as ST or on the LW, and impressed against Arsenal in the CL.

I agree that we have several first choice spots which need addressing, but we certainly need a strong alternate to Kane. The tough this is trying to convince someone to come in to be alternate/second choice, and so we could hardly do better than Ings, especially if that frees up more funds to ensure reeling in Schneiderlin.

A sack of potatoes would be a step up from what Ade and Soldado have contributed this season.
