All diet did was force through Hudd's move to Hull.

diet and hudd in the same sentence? not the first time i reckon.

diet does actually prove there are good players out there for this kind of dough, but we need harrys jobshare in before we can think about improving on last years outcome. this signing is key, has to be a good un.

We've only signed a 4th choice CB and 2nd choice RB.

This time last year we'd similarly signed a 2nd choice LB and 2nd choice GK.

It was later in the window that our big targets (MS, JR, MM) all fell through
Last season we didn't sign anyone until 23rd July, so we are a whole month ahead of then.

I've made this point before, but it bears repeating: our recent transfers since the beginning of last summer seem to be targeting players with low release clauses and expiring contracts, who also happen to not be on particularly big wages. Trippier and Wimmer were not particularly difficult targets to purchase. They both played at very small clubs, had small transfer fees associated with them, and their wages were relatively small, too. They're essentially transfers with exceptionally low financial risk.

Now, unfortunately, the hard part starts for our transfer team. There are no low release clauses for high quality players like Schneiderlin, Imbula, Kondogbia, Martial, etc. We're going to have to pay 15+ million pounds and good wages for these players. Is Levy prepared to sanction that? I remain entirely unconvinced given everything that's happened over the years.

Truthfully, I'm quite concerned we'll not pay the going rate for the players that will improve us and ignore others like Cabaye/Clasie who would be great for us, and aim for players like Boetius and N'Zonzi, both of whom are at smaller clubs and have 1 year left on their contracts (and can potentially be had for about the same prices as Trippier and Wimmer). I just hope that Pochettino doesn't bear the brunt of the blame if he's not afforded a single first XI player this summer. The league is getting more difficult and not seriously improving will see you go backwards in the coming years with the increased television revenue. We had a lot of good fortune with a lack of injuries last season, and I don't think we'd endure the type of injuries Arsenal and Liverpool suffered all that well without really bolstering the quality in the squad in a few key positions (namely CM, LWF, CB, and FW).

It's still June, and ITK suggests we are going after Schneiderlin seriously and have agreed to pay the asking price.

I'd understand this post if it was the end of July and we were in the same position, but we have another 6 weeks to see what happens.

There does appear to be a bit of a buzz from many fans this Summer looking forward to next season regarding in comings.
But we seen all this before with us spending almost an entire Transfer window or two chasing a player who doesnt want to come.
If MS is fucking us about then he cant want to play for us that much so move on to the next target and so on for any other potential transfer, pre season is only a few weeks away and it would be nice to have most if not all in place ready to go.
Now we know that come the last week we probably will be scrambling around for last Minute deals because of failed targets.

Why is everyone so willing to believe Schneiderlin is messing us around when there is absolutely no evidence of such? Some of you guys are mental

Not when that pov goes against the rules. No.

And the 'threat' was nothing more than a light hearted comment, I can't believe it was taken seriously.

It's one thing going in for these players but it's another actually getting them. If we fail to get the necessary quality in then what does it matter what the itks said?

It's early, mp has identified his priority targets, and secondary etc with advice from pm. We have to move players soon to get some more in, wanted to get a first post done finally

We got ITK about the tripper deal a couple of weeks ago and it progressed. Same with Wimmer. Let's hope the same happens with Schneiderlin and Martial and then we can focus on shifting deadwood.

If we fail then we fail, Spurs will always be trying for players that probably would prefer CL and will have other clubs that pay higher wages interested - sometimes it comes off and thats why we've seen some pretty amazing players at the lane in the last 10 years.

Sometimes it don't and you get to see Frazer Campbell

As for ITK - don't read it if it upsets you - simple. If Daniel Levy posted next with a completely honest and truthful rundown of exactly what was happening in negotiations as of this morning it would still be out of date by next week.

from a personal point of view don't neg anyone ITK because I happen to like a little gossip and rumour....

Considering we paid 8.5 for vdv, 4 mill for walker, less for rose, 1m or less for Lennon, 4.5 for dier 5-8 for bale and so on I'm comfortable with this strategy. The players are targeted for reasons and will hopefully fit the system. The few times we have gone for big players it hasnt worked as well... e.g. Bentley, bent, Paulinho, Soldado, lamela (so far)!

I'm happy with things, a big signing would be great if not we are improving the squad dropping he wage bill and hopefully adding young hungry talent.

Oh and we finished in the same position as we did when we spent nearly 100m on talent

Personally to me, i will give this MS thingy till the end of June. If there are no more positive news within now and end of June by both ITKs and credible Media avenues, then i'm afraid we have to move on. Remember that the Club has allegedly made a substantial bid (ITKs said that Club is backing MoPo on this). If its substantial and maybe with abit of "talk time", Southampton will accept the bid. Then the Club will have permission to talk to MS (also have to see if CL teams made a bid in this same period). The Club put a bid in for Ings too and had a talk with the player, but Ings rejected playing for Spurs as shared a few days ago. I believe that is why Trippier was announced yesterday. If Ings did not outright rejected the Club, i would think that Trippier announcement would be delayed, till Ings issue have been sorted. So just give time on this MS thingy........

Also no need to be harsh on ITKs......they shared what they know at that point of time. Discussions and infos are fluid and ever changing with time. Infos cannot be the same from start till the end, there will be changes; some little, some huge.
