For me, any more than 4 centre backs suggests a manager doesn't fully trust the options he has available to him. Two players for each position across the park is enough really to cover injuries/suspension, then we have some promising youngsters as well to cover in a crisis, plus a transfer window in the middle of the season if we had a couple of long term injuries.

As I say, I see it as the guy in charge not being fully convinced and knowing what the pecking order is. Five senior centre backs is overkill.

I guess Europa League rotation will keep them all ticking over until January when he can shift whoever he deems surplus. I agree I would like to see the youth get a shot in the EL but if he needs to assess Wimmer/Dier then that takes priority.

The more business we do (and the more players we're linked to), the more it looks like we're building a team that we hope will peak in 3-4 years - in line with the completion of the stadium:

Wimmer (22)
Tripper (23)
Davies (22)
Dier (21)
Yedlin (21)
Alli (19)
Kane (21)
Eriksen (23)
Lamela (23)
Mason (24)
Bentaleb (20)
Pritchard (22)
Rose (24)
Townsend (23)
Carroll (23)

Hopefully we can add the likes of Veljkovic, CCV and Onomah to that list soon.

Exciting times ahead for us.

jesus am I the only one who thinks Verts, Dier, Fazio & Wimmer with Velkjovic & CCV in back up is enough!?

I really think the last 2 would benefit from a long loan somewhere, play regular 1st team football like Pritchard did last year, then I think we will get the full potential out of these 2. So maybe we do need another CB, maybe we don't, but I would be happy to see either or both of those go out on a season long loan.

We'd do well to keep Eriksen especially for another year after this let alone 3-4. Can probably throw Bentaleb in there too and there'll be a ton of offers for Kane and Rose if they have another storming season. The last two will probably leave this summer also...

Eriksen isn't consistent enough yet to get a move to a 'bigger' club. Everything Kane has said points to him being happy to be here, and I've heard nothing about Rose wanting out.

If we can get these players to buy into the project I think a lot of them will be excited to stick around and see what becomes of us once we have our stadium. They are young enough that they can afford to stick around for a bit, that's the point.

Plan's have gone tits up... shock horror. No matter who's fault it is, it's inevitable that something will always go wrong where Spurs and transfers are concerned lol

This is our only way to compete. We have to find the next Schneiderlin's etc...

Rabiot was rumoured as far back as January. Seems possible that he was up there as Plan A along with MS?

Where should I be putting my money then JJ? :cautious:

I think he is suggesting that if you don't believe him then actually put money on TA joining. In view of the straight no in response to the question then I'd suggest that would be a very stupid thing to do.

Are all these no, no chance, not happening really 'yes but we want to keep it quiet' or have things taken their usual turn of 'an Everest type obstacle popped up unexpectedly'.
