McCarthy and Berahino would both positively impact on our squad. I would be very happy with both.

Like what I've seen of Berahino - but McCarthy strikes me as being just another average player that will play an average game in an average midfield. Surely there's better out there?

Rabiot excites me. Martial did too. I wonder if this transfer window is going to be another case of last minute deals for players that we'll be trying to shift in a year or two? Player agents must regard Spurs as a cash cow. Bring 'em in for a year or two then sell 'em on.

So is moving for these 2 Germans does that mean Everton will not sell McCarthy to us or we will not pay Everton what they want. If true about bender and Kramer then I guess the McCarthy deal won't happen

I have said a few times that to me McCarthy is a Carrick style player, not overly exciting or productive but important to how the team sets up.

Carrick has a range of passing that McCarthy lacks in my opinion. On top of that why not bring in an exciting and productive player like Rabiot?

True but then McCarthy has better movement and is more combative so horses for courses.

Not the thread for this anyway but I think he is one of those players who is highly underrated because he is crap on Fifa, doesn't do much on MOTD and doesn't get lots of goals/assists.

We might as well have kept Stambouli and/or Capoue in that case. I would regard McCarthy as a sideways step. We need to be moving forward not treading water. I watch a wee bit of football and can't say I've been too impressed with McCarthy. But he might do the job for a club with top six or seven ambitions. But is that what Spurs fans really want?

And maybe Spurs don't want to offer PSG enough money to persuade them to sell?

(Shades of Moutinho?)
Would not be surprised if Levy thought he could get Rabiot on the cheap since he was unsettled. But PSG won't be bullied by Levy or Rabiot's mum.

Rabiot is very similar to Bentaleb in quite a few ways. Yes, he does have considerable potential and does look to be a good player, but I'd much rather we brought in a less exciting player who can amplify our other midfield players rather than an exciting player who is stepping on the toes of another exciting player of high potential.

Part of the recipe for the failure in 2013 was that we didn't pay enough attention to compatibility. McCarthy is the more compatible buy with what we already have, while Rabiot would be a buy more minded on investment and cramming as much random scouted "quality" into the team as possible, and as we saw in 2013, that just doesn't work.

I like your style but I think Kramer is a complete pipe dream bud.
Stadium or not, we will not spend above the money we get from sales. I will happily put £50 pounds in the sc bank if we go over what we get In which makes 2 big signings very unlikely

McCarthy offers a better fit to the team than both Capoue or Stambouli. That's what counts.

Maybe they both excite you because their youtubes are better and clubs more exotic than Everton and West Brom... Berahino scored more in the prem than Martial in a 4 tier European league. They would be more excited about Berahino over seas

ITK talks of McCarthy as a possibility. But who will make up the centre of midfield if he comes? I'd far rather see a centre of Rabiot and Bentaleb than any combination involving McCarthy. On the other hand we may have shot ourselves in the foot by selling off two defensive midfielders (Capoue and Stambouli) leaving us short in that department if Bentaleb is injured, loses form or needs a rest. So maybe McCarthy is just a back up to Bentaleb - an alternative to Capoue and Stambouli?
