Yeah as I have said a couple of times, I would have kept Oduwa up until Christmas. He could get minutes in the League Cup and Europa games and then maybe look to loan him out for regular football in the second half of the season. I guess these things do have to be weighed up against the opportunities for season long loans at that point in time, but I do find it a bit disappointing sometimes that we loan players out so early. Why not see what they are made of first if they have shown flashes of promise? (like Oduwa in pre-season), especially when we do lack certain options in the squad.

Well there is actually- what's the point of him being on our bench when he can get first-team football elsewhere? I wasn't the biggest fan of the Rangers loan but at least he will play on a weekly basis in a high-pressure environment.

He came off the bench for Rangers today.

If he came off the bench for us and impressed the same thing might happen, no ?
Who knows? Much more difficult to embarrass defenders like he did yesterday in the PL. My personal opinion is that a loan is better for him. I've said before that he's really impressed me, I just think a loan would be better for his development.

Maybe you are right, as I've said, Warburton and Rangers is a better idea for a loan than many, but it's not as if we have many players who can do what he does, and we have just spent 10m plus salary for a young player who will fill a similar remit, who also might not start games.

If we already had a 25yo like Oduwa or a plethora of attacking talent the loan would make much more sense, but the fact that we didn't (until we bought N'Jie) have a player like this or even loads of attacking options makes me think maybe he could have fulfilled the remit N'Jie will now and saved us a lot of money.

Think we always needed to buy N'Jie to over striker/WF as we are weak at AM - and having a back up for Kane takes away the pressure of WBA Chairman thinking Berahino is our only option.

But I agree I would not have loaned out Oduwa this early as in pre-season he showed what the youth watchers have always known and that is he has the skills, size and goalscoring/assist making abilities and to be totally unpredictable and dangerous to the opposition which is something that we do not have in the AM's currently (except perhaps N'Jie who is 2 - 3 years older).

The window for subs to FL clubs opens after the main TW shuts on 1 September so there was no rush - and we will still be short for a few weeks until N'Jie gets up to speed and indeed quite possibly until the new striker/WF joins

He was still with us v Utd and again, would have been a very good option to come off the bench (with and without hindsight). Why not delay the loan for a week (or even a few days) until N'jie gets his work permit or/and Pritchard is fit enough to be on the bench? It doesn't have to mean the loan doesn't happen, just delay it.

I actually think sending Coulthirst on loan was one of the worst decisions so far this season, going in to a match with no strikers on the bench was just silly and cost us the match imo. Coulthirst isn't good enough but having him playing up front would have been a lot better than chadli imo or anyone else

If we were the team looking to find a way through, I would agree with you, but when Kane went off, we were on the back foot and we needed someone upfront that could challenge the defenders for the ball and keep hold of it when they got it, so I think we should have put Dembele up front, brought Oduwa (if he was on the bench) on on the left. It sounds like a strange option and not one I would want to use often, but in the circumstances we were in, we just needed to keep a hold of the ball in their half for a bit. Even without Oduwa on the bench, I think Chadli should have come off in the last 20, with Dembele going up top and Alli playing AM (or even CM in a 4-3-3).

Great move for Oduwa, he was unlikely to get minutes here if he stayed. Lamela, Chadli, Eriksen, Townsend, Dembele, Pritchard, Carroll all need minutes and that's before N'Jie and anyone else.
