I like the way we are quietly going about our business, no fuss, unbeaten in ten games, sitting there in 5th place with the third best goal difference and four clean sheets from eleven games.
I remember the days when we struggled to keep four clean sheets a season.....

Ask me at the end of November. Right now were in a good position but November is a horrible month.

We were much better than Liverpool were in the game against us, we didn't win, no, but we were the better team. And Liverpool played Origi up front who is most definitely a recognised striker. I also thought the managers first game in charge was meant to be a negative for us, now it's not reason for us finding them tougher than we may otherwise have done?

Liverpool were poor on Saturday. Chelsea were worse, but doesn't mean Liverpool were good. They were incredibly sloppy all game, and were it not for Coutinho deciding to show up just before half time I don't think they'd have won the game. Rather than buy into the press coverage, watch the game with your own eyes. Klopp has done nothing yet to show we should be scared. I said at the beginning of the season that Liverpool would have problems. They've got one of the most unbalanced squads I've ever seen for a "top" side, with little to no cohesion in terms of playing style. Klopp is a great coach, he showed that at Dortmund, but he's got a real job on his hands to turn that mishmash squad into top 4 contenders. It's going to take at least til next season before we really see what they're gonna be like, and even then, with the amount of players I expect them to turnover in the next two windows next season could be one of transition too.

Rather than just see the name Klopp and wet my pants, I'll look at the whole picture. We're 18 months ahead of them, we've a settled and young squad that buys into the coach's philosophy. I much prefer our position.

Agree. And just to add to that, Liverpool have, what I would call, three real quality players in Coutinho, Sturridge and Benteke. The problem they have is they can't depend on the latter two to be fit consistently. If those three were playing regularly, week in week out, they'd have a very good attack but its a moot point because they don't.

The rest of their squad is incredibly underwhelming IMO, so I expect Klopp to make consirable changes over the next couple of windows like you've alluded to - which adds more time to the equation.

I'm just delighted we have a +10 goal difference!

Defence looks strong, attack seems to be improving. Dier and Alli have been revelations, Toby has really helped the defence and Walker specifically.

I know we don't really do a lot in January, but a good attacker addition could give us that shot in the arm to keep us going to the end of the season.

I think we are as good as Utd, Leicester and West Ham will surely suffer a dip in form, City are a bit too strong while Woolwich are probably a little more cohesive than us, but theoretically 4th position should not be the limit of our ambitions.

And Coutinho is one of the most inconsistent players in the league. Massively overhyped by the media. Undoubtedly very talented, but can be anonymous for games.

two spots up for grabs with us, Liverpool and Utd being the most likely contenders for them

Ironic, as that's exactly what you're doing. Instead of going overboard with the press and the RAWKites with the idea that world domination looms, you've gone in the opposite direction and convinced yourself that they're no threat, and that they've been poor since he took over, which, in my opinion, is incorrect. If we won 3-1 at the Bridge, and made Chelsea look ordinary in the process, you can bet your life you wouldn't be on here saying how 'poor' we were, and that the victory was due only to the fact that Chelsea were poorer. I believe in credit where its due, they weren't Brazil 1970, but they controlled the game from around 30 mins onwards, and scored three goals without ever looking like they were going to lose, or even draw.

They're not title challengers, as a minority in the media suggested after the game, but nor are they in any way 'poor'. They have a handful of very good players, a charismatic and tactically astute manager, and the experience of challenging the top 6-4 year in year out.

With the exception of the 'charismatic' manager, the above could equally apply to ourselves. We have big potential, but at this moment in time we're very much a work in progress. You think we're way ahead of Liverpool, but I just don't see it. I could definitely see us finishing above them, but I'm by no means confident about it. How anyone could be confident of finishing above them, or any of our direct competitors is a mystery to me. We've had a decent start to the season, that's it. I've seen better Spurs sides than this fail to make the top 4, so experience teaches me not to get carried away.

We've finished above them for God knows how many seasons now - bar one when Suarez was sensational.

Its not a given of course, but we look like a better balanced side with a stronger spine IMO.

Liverpool will gradually get stronger under Klopp but it will take time IMO. As it stands I think we're ahead of them in terms of development and we seem a more settled team.

But the point is the media are creaming over everything and anything they do at the moment, they're grossly sensationalizing any little positive they can find.

It's not necessarily true that a team has to have played well to win a game convincingly, and not look in any trouble. It was a weird match, neither team was very good, Chelsea were just less good. I'm not sure that beating Chelsea at the moment is really a sign of anything other than how poor they currently are. Liverpool were energetic for 20 minutes against us, and then pretty meh against Rubin Kazan (with 10 men), Southampton, and Chelsea. Just because the media are desperate that Klopp and Liverpool succeed, doesn't mean it's actually happening.

Chelsea certainly won't be in this position next season. So now is the time. I really think it comes down to a couple of factors. Will Kane stay for and keep scoring, and how far we go in Europa. And do we go in for a striker in January?

Just comparing fixtures we have played with same fixtures of last season. The relegated 18,19,20 sides replaced by top 3 from championship...

Just going fixture by fixture we have improved on most of them. We are better off 6 points and 15 goal difference in net from last season - just shows the improvements we have done from last season...

Like someone just said, lets see where we are in November.

If that goes well, we should be looking higher up the table than 4th in all honesty.

Thats a big IF to be fair.

This is a good article, honestly, I'm hoping to see less of them.

I quite like the fact that no-one is talking about us, and that fans are expecting their teams to beat us.
Yeah, I would be happier if all the media attention stayed on Chelsea and Liverpool to be honest. However, IF we won against Arsenal on Sunday, then you can bet all the talk will shift. We're 5 points behind Arsenal, win and its 2 and people will be talking about Top 4 with more certainty and some media outlets might start suggesting higher.

Lose though and its 8. We talk about being miles ahead of Chelsea, but come Sunday evening we might find ourselves equally adrift of the top. Then we have West Ham, who could turn up and get a result, they've shown that they can against the top teams and then Chelsea who might have a new manager etc...

Suddenly those 9 points we're ahead don't feel so comfortable and that gap to to the top grows and grows.

November is a massive massive month and frankly, I know its unpopular, but I am not personally even bothered about Europa League. The Premier League is wide open this year and we should be doing our utmost to take full advantage.

We have seen in seasons where Liverpool and Manchester United have not had to worry about Europe how well they have done in the League... In my view we should take a similar stance. Its almost a shame Anderlecht is this week, as if it was after the Arsenal match we could see how we were doing and make a judgement call.

Have to agree mate - they are starting to pop up more and more -

That being said after the AVB/Sherwood year its nice to start getting some positive press again -
