Actually...Lamela was great today too.

Not sure what was going on with Lloris. Looked like he'd been on poppers.

kane or alli will be contenders no doubt, but i voted toby. The guy is awesome and massive unsung hero. on top of his defensive abilty, some of his passing was excellent today.

walker and rose were good but the final ball was lacking too much for me. also thght lamela had a great game too.

Yep, Alderweireld is incredible. Thought it was only Vertonghen and their history together that was making him look good, but I was completely wrong.

Captain material.

Still no thread?

My ratings:

Hugo Lloris - 6 - very sloppy distribution. Not much to do besides that.

Kyle Walker - 7 - was active and involved on the right. Ayew didn't bother to cover. Good game, but his delivery could have been a bit better tbh.

Toby Alderweireld - 7.5 - Rock solid again. Absolutey reliable

Kevin Wimmer - 7 - Not as good as Toby and not a hard day still a good performance.

Danny Rose - 6.5 - Good

Eric Dier - 7 - Did his job good enough again

Mousa Dembele - 6 - okay, but not really productive going forward and sometimes a bit sloppy

Christian Eriksen - 6 - Didn't really work out for him

Erik Lamela - 7 - Started very bright. Important again for our closing down and quick play forward. Really liked what I saw but still needs to be a bit more composed in front of goal

Dele Alli - 7 - Interesting one. Definitley two very good game winning assists. If you are watching MOTD it is an 8.5 or something like that. You can still make an argument about giving him a higher rating, depending on how you rate a game. In my eyes his allround game is at the moment a bit annoying. Instead of playing an easy ball he is doing something else and losing the ball again again and again. Frustrating, but like vs Palace e.g. he won us the game. Great to have him.

Harry Kane - 7 - Another interesting one. Took his two goals very well but should have done so much better with earlier chances. Hard to rate. So I think a good 7 is fair.

Overall a good "job done" performance where we finished work in the 60th minute. Nothing wrong with that, but won't be so easy again.

Of course. Three hours no one puts up that thread and when I put the little work in, someone has made one already :D

yea its the other way around and the fact that wimmer has slotted so seamlessly must in part be credited to him

Walker and Lamela were the best out there for me. Lamela is such a clever player with the ball, and unselfish. If he can do that regularly against the top clubs he may be worth the money spent on him.

Walker has upped his game so much this year - definitely my MotM

Mentions to Lamela and Rose

Got frustrated by Dembele and Alli at times (despite the assists)

Dembele and Eriksen were both a little off colour today, Walker was my MOTM followed closely by Kane, Lamela, Toby and Rose.

Alli's performance was a strange one, absent but influential. Still can't believe he's a 19 y.o lad playing his first prem season, it's tough for him because he's set the bar so high, if Onomah had put in that performance it would be a 8 or 9 (that's not in anyway a dig at Onomah!).

Dier was quietly effective and saw more of the ball further up the pitch, mainly due to Villa being turgid and negative for 75 mins.

Hugo is like dating an absolute stunner with lovely tits, a nice arse and a rich dad, but she has a small yet off-putting hairy mole on her arse. She's done all the hard work now just sort out that f****** mole (kicking).

Ohh and Wimmer deserves a improved contract in the summer, he has slotted into Verts spot with ease and needs to be rewarded. If he didn't adapt as quickly as he has, we'd be in big trouble.

8/8 for everyone, can't give marks out of 10 against such a poor team. My MOTM goes to Kane, two excellent finishes. People criticize him for his shoot on sight policy but I'm certain that's what Poch tells him to do, and some of the finishing by certain other players leaves a lot to be desired as well so you can't really blame him.

And Walker and Rose both showed they're easily our best full backs.

Walker was superb.

Kane: nearly back to his best, and he's a top class striker. Two good goals which won us the game, so I'll forgive him for being a bit selfish at times. Could get his head up a bit more in wide positions, instead of just belting it straight at the keeper and looking for an error.

Lamela: excellent, works so hard and has become the key player in our team - the player we look to to pick an incisive forward pass. Crucial to our pressing. I do worry at times about the way he tackles though. He's very rash and it just takes a card happy ref and he's capable of two very quick yellows.

Dier: it looked like he'd had a rest. Much less leggy that against Arsenal and West Ham. Can only be a good thing.

Alli: set up two goals but thought he looked off the pace for much of it. Ball bounced off him a lot and he favoured little backheels and rainbow flicks over doing the simple things. Should shoot more when on the edge of the area.

Eriksen: thought he was our worst player today. In the game but made loads of bad decisions with the ball, over hit passes, looked leggy. Needs a rest, definitely do not play him v Dortmund.

Toby and Wimmer: solid

The rest: ok

Good performance with several contenders. In the end my vote goes to Kane. It's so easy to see what he misses but if goalscoring was so easy then strikers would be ten a penny but as we know they are a rare commodity. So motm for what he did, rather than what he didn't do

Pretty much spot on, so I'm not going to bother typing out my own ratings ;)

Aside from the fact that Kane should have scored a hat-trick, he randomly shot from a crossing position towards the end, and ballooned it into the stands. Strikers need to possess a degree of selfishness, but that was just ridiculous.

Best game Kane's had for a while. Great to have him back.

Special mention for Walker who had a very solid game along the flank.

Space The FInal Frontier

Funny fucking game. In this new, richer, tougher, fitter, smarter, tactically more astute EPL, where cannon fodder have become as tactically astute as an Italian 1990's scudetto winner, we have Aston Villa who have decided to completely buck the trend and be utterly shit.

So it was no surprise really that we pretty much dominated a huge chunk of this game. But what was a little disconcerting was how at various stages in this game a team as shit as Villa still managed to have the ball in acres of space and threatening positions, particularly towards the latter stages, managed to rattle our woodwork three times and only had one less shot on target as we did.

There were times when Villa made this game so easy it was almost like part of an absolutely genius plan, like plying us with some pinot noir and slipping us the footballing tactical equivalent of a rohypnol, and we became woozy and almost ended up getting our knickers pulled down and what at first seemed like it was going to be a fun night nearly ended up with us getting arse fucked in a back alley, only saved by the fact that Villa couldn't get it up.

There was so much space out there at times it almost seemed to confuse our players into thinking they were in a time/space continuum conundrum and hyperdrove the ball straight back to Villa players who didn't even want it.

I know there's this theory that Dier and Dembele are the fucking Batman and Robin of the CM universe but I thought it would have been great to have seen at least one of Mason or Bentaleb paired with one of them or instead of both. We desperately needed CM's (or at least one) who could get hold of the ball, see plenty of it, not dither and fucking dawdle, pass it quickly and efficiently and a bit more incisively.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, but Bentaleb once passed the ball badly at Old Trafford and a black hole was born and swallowed the universe, I know that, but Dembele got caught dawdling on the ball on our D for about the 1000th time in his career with us, so lets not pretend he's fucking perfect either. Neither him or Dier were terrible, I'm not saying they were, I just think it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if Poch freshened things up, made us less predictable, added something to the CM blend. Just try one of Mason and Bentaleb with one of Dier or Dembele. Then maybe we'd combine some of the qualities of each and get a better blend. Clearly on the evidence of quite a few games, these two aren't infallible.

Alli had another one of those games. His quick thinking set up the first goal, I think his pass for the second was for Lamela, but either way he played a vital part in the second goal, but for much of the rest of the game he was fucking atrocious. I don't know how he managed it against such a pile of shite that Villa are, but he somehow managed to give the ball away a higher percentage (36.9) than everybody on our team including Lloris.

Like I said, it was a funny fucking game, We could have scored 3 or 4 in the first 30, then just when you're thinking "one of those days" we pop up with the goal, then there was a spell for about the first 25 minutes or so of the second half where I thought we had the game under total control and were doing the right things, managing it well, but as ever there is this switch that just seems to go off with us and the last 15-20 minutes we just lost that control and if they hadn't contrived to miss chances that seemed easier to score we could have fucked away the easiest chance of points we'll ever get.

But we didn't, so everything's groovy…or so I'm going to be told I'm sure.

Individual

Lloris - Distribution was woeful at times.

Walker - Good game (but to be fair Ayew seemed to have decided to take most of the day off) mostly but a couple of Walkerisms, like the time in the second half when things were starting to get hairy when he just wonders off and leaves Lamela 2-1 on the edge of the box. I just don't know what goes through the boys mind at times. He does the most bizarre things. Not like not picking up a runner, or losing his marker (all bad things) - just utterly random weird shit that defies logic. And fuck knows what hom and Dembele were doing for Ayew's late post hit.

Alderweireld - Alderweireld

Wimmer - Decent, except when he did that stupid thing that defenders do sometimes, where they have the chance to whack it clear and instead turn it back to a keeper, who is 15 yards further back and who you know isn't great at kicking for him too whack clear from further back. Why ?

Rose - Really good game. I'd actually be tempted to give him MOTM.

Dier - Solidly meh.

Dembele - Saw lots of ball, wish he'd learn that he doesn't have to dribble with it every time he sees it.

Lamela - Lively, not a bad game.

Eriksen - If I was Poch I'd give him the week off, send him off to Dubai to sit on a beach. He worked hard, saw plenty of the ball but is looking understandably mentally a bit jaded. Could have been rested in the week if we didn't give a shit about the game, especially if we hand't idiotically sent Pritchard out on loan or with Onomah played in his stead.

Alli - As above. Two assists, lots of assisting Villa get the ball back. (yes I know @THFCSPURS19 I need some new material).

Kane - Decent game today I thought. The obligatory shot or two from utterly stupid positions, but apart front hat he worked hard and took his goals well.

While I would have rested Dier for another week because he was so jaded in recent games, you might get your wish about Mason getting some game time though most likely just from the bench but I think the chances of Bentaleb playing ( other than probably as one of the sacrificial lambs on Thursday ) looks remote because it looks like Pochettino would rather play Carroll as a back up midfielder than Bentaleb . So it seems like you are flogging a dead horse with that one. In terms of those 2 midfield spots clearly Dier and Dembele are his first choice followed by Mason, Carroll, moving Alli or Eriksen back there and then if all 6 of those players are out then he might consider Bentaleb. In fact when Vertonghen comes back he would probably convert Wimmer into another Dier next which would make Bentaleb number 7 on the list. Sad but true.
