the way it's going the Dortmund match is their most important game left of the season. at the moment they have 8 games in April, after a very busy season already. their only real chance of appearing in the CL next season is to beat Dortmund, they won't get European football the way their season is going, so they will have 1 eye on that match.
Yes but what does one eye on it mean? That they won't play Sturridge and Coutinho? It's not even in the same week. They would prepare this week for the weekend game, then after they play us they plan for Dortmund. I think it's a simple as that

Not what I'd do, but I can see Son starting ahead of Lamela, just because one has a long haul flight from South America and the other will be at the Training ground.

If we can't get our strongest line-up out I'd go for

Clemence, D.Thomas, King, Mabbut, Hughton (He was Born in England, so he's English), Howells, Hoddle, Lennon, Gascoigne, Waddle and Lineker.

Bar ArseS*l, Is that's the strongest England Contingent we've had since 1987?

Can't see that at all. Son has looked overawed in bigger games with intensive atmospheres, while Lamela seems completely unfazed by them and is made for games like this. Liverpool's defence will give us chances, but we just have to stay in the game long enough, and Lamela, even a couple of days after travelling, will help us to do that a lot better than Son.

Firmino's been in great form for them, would be wonderful news if he's still out injured (or rested) for this game,

The International break is key here.
How many of our layers will play and for how long vs theirs? WIll Hodgson risk Sturridge? Or will Kane be used like a horse because he is "so fit". You would assume both FB's will get at least one match off and I don't think Hodgson will use Dier and Alli for more than a game, but I am concerned about Kane.

I like Internationals and the England team, but this is right at the wrong time for me these friendlies. Still, would love to see Kane score against Germany (seeing as I live in Germany).

What will be more interesting is the Liverpool side, who face Dortmund the Thursday after our game!

We have nothing to fear, we have to go there believing we can win.
I'm really not that worried about pool. Certainly no more than any team we face. They are not that great. Pretty average from the games I've seen them play. They've had a 'mini' revival, only because the teams they play are so bad.

But one is 1000 times more important to the team while the other has been boardering on useless since like October.

going to be pretty hard for anyone to properly prepare for the next game weekend with so many players away on I/Duty. if Sturridge has played a fair amount for England, they will want him safe and secure for Dortmund, Coutinho might not be back till late Thursday, so might decide to make sure he is completely fresh for Dort. they can't afford to pick up injuries to their main hub, if they have any hope of coming away from Dortmund and still being in the tie. 5 days rest is 1 thing, 5 days to recover from injury will be impossible

If vertonghens fit I would put him straight back in. We're going to need to be calm and composed with the ball at the back going to anfield because they will put us under pressure high up the pitch. Their crowd will make it high tempo. We can't afford to be ragged with possession. We need to give ourselves the best platform to build attacks and a performance and imo that's with vertonghen and Alderweired. We can't afford just to clear the ball anywhere we need to work it up the pitch.

Wimmer is calm and composed and, to be honest, Vertonghen hasn't always been in the past. A certain game at Anfield where he literally walked off the pitch springs to mind - probably his nadir as a Spurs player that moment.

And also, what's the best way to beat a press? Play it long, and Wimmer is also an excellent and cultured player or long passes - not long balls.

Everything we know about Poch tells us that the man in possession of the shirt retains it until his performances drop off, and Wimmer's haven't.

Not for me. Vertonghens a lot better on the ball than Wimmer. I also think he's quicker on the turn. I do agree though that I think pochetino will stick with wimmer, just not my personal choice for this game if vertonghens fit.

playing it long can be effective if you get people around the second ball or you have pace. Not sure thats where we're at our best. I think we need to build through the phases of the pitch and have as many players as possible composed and comfortable on the ball even when under pressure.

No way Liverpool will chuck this one, they consider themselves a bigger club than us (historically correct) and it will not be palletable to their support for them to rest players. Not to mention Klopp probably knows better than anyone how unlikely it is that they can beat Dortmund over two legs...
Don't think it's a question of them resting players, the more likely advantage is that their players know the league has gone, and will have one eye on the Dortmund game as it really is their season now. A question of psychology really, and little things like that make a difference.

No Brady or Manning starting in your lineup?

Bit surprised.....
