Very little and nothing are two different things. Just because a few players have succeeded doesn't mean KWP will, Tom Carroll hasn't succeeded, he can't defend. I wouldn't want to go into a Champions League game with Carroll playing so a totally unproven right-back is a gamble. If Walker was injured and he failed that could ruin the whole season. Far too much of a risk to take. He needs a year of being bedded into the squad and into the team first I would have thought. Given his age, he doesn't take up a squad place so no reason why he don't have a back-up right-back and give him cameos to get used to the atmosphere and if it is a Champions League game the occasion. Some players are overawed by playing at Wembley. The risks are just too great now we have gone up a level of football.
I'm not Carroll's biggest fan but he hasn't exactly been any worse a failure than many bought players have and has actually played bloody well in some of our European competitions. Playing him in the role he was given against Dortmund was poor management more than Carroll's failure.
Trippier didn't exactly cover himself with glory in his first Europa outings (costing us a penalty if I remember correctly). And the uber experienced Walker has cost us many a goal as have other experienced players.
This is my point. Even the less successful kids we've introduced have rarely let us down any worse than the bought/experienced options have at times.
If was suggesting going into a season with only KWP as RB I could understand your reticence, but I don't get the panic about suggesting he's ready to be back and play ad hoc games.
People talk about "no experience" or "not proven" like these kids have started playing football last week, when the reality is we've been training them for a decade in some cases and preparing them for this every day for years.
