Dude, having been there and seen some of it, what was your take on it?
Usual English idiots singing and then confronted by people who don't get that sense of humour, threw bottles and got more than they bargained for. In all honesty I and the people I am with stayed away from the trouble areas (I have my son here) in the ground it was only Russians who started any trouble Marseille people have been awesome though a bit wary of English until we prove ourselves. I'm hesitant to say "it's the media" because I know how uncouth the English can be but I'm telling u the police were terrible, the organisation was awful and the locals and Russians were ready for us. English = singing and when confronted bottle throwing then when pushed and pushed reacting with chairs there are hardly any English "hooligans" here.

This is complete and utter rubbish. I was there and I cannot be arsed to go into it but we 100% did not instigate the Russians coming into that area.
Please share mate, its important first hand reports are shared truthfully.

One of the arrested English was a 16 year old!!
Where the hell are the parents?!?! I presume they aren't there with him....

One Portsmouth fan remains in a critical but stable condition with severe brain injuries after being beaten with iron bars by Russian thugs

Two England fans jailed after Marseille violence

Two England fans were charged today for throwing bottles at the French police. The fans received sentences of two months and three months, respectively. One fan received a longer sentence than the other, as he was alleged to have picked up a second bottle after throwing an initial one.

They were also both banned from visiting France for two years.

It is expected that many more individuals will be charged imminently, including four more England fans and one Austria fan, who are all likely to be sentenced in the coming days, having been arrested during a weekend of football marred by so-called “fan violence”.

Two Russia fans are currently in this process of being expelled from the France.

UEFA have opened disciplinary proceedings against the Russian Football Union and will decide on the appropriate sanctions during a meeting due to be held tomorrow.

Despite this, Russian MP Igor Lebedev has called for Russia fans to “keep up the good work”.

Is anyone listening to the Football Weekly podcast at the moment? Interesting that they were talking to the Russian football journo the other day and he said that he was avoiding the England Russia game as he knew there was going to be loads of trouble.

I was talking to a guy at work today and one his mates is out there. Apparently he said that the Russians came along with some of the local Marseille nutters and that a bunch of PSG fans then joined the English as they hate Marseille. How can you decide who to prosecute if that's the case? Do you kick out Russia, England and France? If you kick out France what happens if they take their ball home with them? They'll end up playing the final down the local park, with one of those 99p floater balls from the local newsagent. Which would actually be pretty awesome.

It's clearly been long planned. Whilst trying to find news on events, I stumbled upon this (admittedly from the Daily Star...) from March 16 stating that Russian's are in 'training camps' for the Euro's. So it's not like this should've been a surprise to the authorities.

http://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/lat...nglish-fans-Euro-2016-game-Russia-group-stage

In video stills from a hooligan “training camp”, the yobs – some shirtless despite the snow – practise their fighting skills.

The sickening film – titled Russian Ultras – lasts just two minutes but at the end of the violence half a dozen men are left unconscious on the frozen ground.

And the thugs have sent out a chilling warning to British fans ahead of the tournament.

A yob called Yuri – a fan of CSKA Moscow – claimed most hooligans are neo-Nazis with military and law enforcement backgrounds.

He said: “We are hard men, many from the army and police. Not soft English men in their Lacoste clothes and girls’ shoes.

“We fight in the woods and train and fight at matches.

“England fans will have no chance. Russia is number one.”

Yeah I heard that. Makes you wonder why nobody else bloody knew.

He didn't seem to think there'd be any trouble with the Ruskies now as those idiots will have gone home, so let's hope he's right about that as well.

Jus got back from Marseille.

Got there on Friday, watched the opening game at the fan park and the atmosphere was very cordial.

Saturday headed to the old port, all very good natured to begin with. Plenty of chanting, lots of beer being consumed, everyone enjoying themselves. Then people started running, didn't see what started it and next thing I knew the French riot police were there. I've been led to believe that the Russians were on their way, but cant vouch for that. A few locals were around and covered their faces, threw a few bottles but the atmosphere definitely changed.

A few bottles were thrown, but nothing compared to what the Germans did to us in Frankfurt at WC2016. Then the tear gas came out, lost my mate as I moved away and headed for shelter inside a bar with a few others. Once I thought it was clear found my mate. A couple of people were throwing bottles again, I stopped a local from lobbing one by holding his arm and asking him how he thought that would help the situation. Then another round of tear gas, this one really got us good. That stuff is fucking lethal.

Also had a tear gas grenade miss us by about five metres, flying through the air, making the kind of nouse when it landed that you'd expect in a war film.

Spent the next hour going down loads of alleys, avoiding the locals who were trying to get involved, speaking to people as to where not to go. Spoke to a former marine who said the Russians had been in boot camps to prepare for this.

Decided to walk to the stadium, had some pictures taken with some Russian fans and some old bill in full Robocop gear.

Near the stadium had a few more beers, everyone was again in full enjoyment mode, really good crack. Then started to make our way to the stadium and, as Vardy's missus correctly said basically got tear gassed by the French police again and trapped in this tiny route to the stadium as they'd decided to shut the gates. People jumping over fences reminiscent of Hillsborough.

Didn't see the trouble at the game.

Walked back to the old port after the game, as that's where our hotel was, but was blocked off by the French police, so headed down another alleyway.

More tear gas and some locals running with bottles, before we persuaded a restaurant to let us in. Had a great couple of hours in there with the staff, they even told us to smoke inside as it was safer.

From my experience, purely from what I saw, yes a few England fans threw some bottles. Quite why the supermarkets couldn't sell beer out of plastic bottles I dont know. The locals were out for trouble. The police were indiscriminate in their use of tear gas, we got gassed six times. I didn't see any Russians kicking off but I think that's more down to luck, speaking to people and keeping our eyes open.

I knew the real ringleader would turn up eventually.

Glad you're okay though Matty. You must be part man part tear gas by the sounds if it.

A Russian parliament member, who is on the exco of the Russian Football Union and owner of a russian football club praised the Russian fans, said they should be applauded instead of condemned and said that 9 of 10 football fans go to games to fight. Yes, guys. This is also the country that is waging a proxy war on its neighbors because they want to move closer to the EU, politically. The country that is defending and fighting for the assad regime. The country that murders political opposition leaders, whether they are in the country at the time or not. And this is also the country that is hosting the 2018 World Cup. Good job, Fifa! Fucking twats.

To be fair to them, there is not really an alternative there atm.

But yeah, it's a disgrace really.

It would be pretty bloody hilariously stark if they were thrown out the Euros and then went on & hosted the WC 2 years later!
Football sold it's soul for big bucks years ago, you can't trust FIFA, UEFA or the FA to do the right thing, only the most lucrative thing so once they've worked out the bottom line they'll decide on whether Russia keeps the next world cup.
