Remind me how many reds he picked up last year....? Was it close to the 3 this plodder got? We are in a position to sign top quality, players who can make a REAL difference. Arsenal sign a top quality midfielder in Xhaka, and yes I've seen plenty of him as I watch a lot of Bundesliga, and we go for this plodder..... #Ambition
Xhaka isn't the type of midfielder we want/need though.

Not gonna help us with bus parkers on our tiny pitch though and turn those home draws/losses into wins.
We have bigger problem areas to address IMO, good for squad yes, but not sure he improves the first XI.
Hopefully with better players around him he will step up again though...
He's not there for bus parkers- he's there to twat slap Pullis type teams when they're trying to throw their weight around, or to come on and protect a lead. You're right though- we do need either a needle threader or a pacy dribbler to unsettle defences. I reckon Poch knows this though.

I'm new around here and this is my first window following this section. But honestly is it always this repetitive? Atleast half the posts in these 44 pages have been about his red card record/or lack of record in the past/record compared to Dier/record compared to Xhaka. Just round and round in circles.

Being a CL club and a side not too far off from challenging for the league again we are in a position to sign top quality. Is he really of that desired quality to take our team up a level or just another squad filler?

Personally speaking he's a red card waiting to happen. He's really indisciplined and picks up yellow/red cards galore leaving his team in a vulnerable position. Not a fan of his at all....

CL allowing us to do this is a myth, we would always end up signing the same quality of players we would regardless..... because money.

Batshuayi seems to be the one that might be aided by CL, however although I like him, he probably doesn't fit into that category either.

Imagine if we could sign that Eric Dier lad from the Euro's who's been class so far, or that Dembele guy that was one of the best midfielders statistically in Europe last season, that would be good.

Wanyama isn't a sexy signing or one most people would make on FM/FIFA, but he fits our ethos perfectly, has worked with the manager before and plugs a gaping hole in our squad. On top of that he's PL proven and £11m!

Quotes (allegedly) from Wanyama from Supersport- one of the biggest African sports networks:

http://www.supersport.com/football/kenya/news/160618/Wanyama_to_complete_Spurs_move

Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama is set to sign for Tottenham Hotspur in a lucrative deal for the Kenyan international.

Spurs beat Leicester City to Wanyama's signature and the highly rated defensive midfielder will put pen to paper on his new deal on Monday next week.

Wanyama was at Kamiti Maximum Prison in Nairobi on Saturday where he paid a courtesy call and spoke to inmates.

"I want to thank Southampton for the great opportunity they gave me to play in England. As footballers, we harbour ambitions and a move to Tottenham Hotspur will give me a chance to play in the Champions League."

Spurs tried to sign him at the start of last season but Southampton refused to relent with Wanyama going on to make 35 appearances for them.

Wanyama will depart Nairobi on Sunday for London where he is expected complete the move on Monday and re-join manager Mauricio Pochettino who signed him for the Saints three years ago.

He is expected back in Nairobi on Wednesday.

You're absolutely right. Putting it politely they are all idiots who can't be bothered to go back and see what has already been said.

Me included! :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead: :D

Talk about cherry picking comments to support your views . A lot of them call him slow , not being able to handle playing against fast teams , crap passing etc the list goes on

He won't be slow after Poch has finished with him.

Anyway he isn't an unknown quantity, Poch signed him for Soton so he knows how to make him tick.

I have no worries about this signing.

Are you new? Were you not around last summer when we endlessly debated the merits of Berahino for nearly 200 pages. Strap in, it's still early.

That's Lamela, Eriksen, Son and Njie. Poch knows this.

Are these negative comments posted after they've given up hope of keeping him?

I like this news. I like his attitude on the pitch, he should fit in well (y)

Quite strange that this appears to have been such a simple process - no drama, no faffing about until days before the window closes "to get the best deal" like we've become used to, we just went and got the deal done. Such an odd sensation considering a few years ago we'd have offered £4m, then maybe one of our youngsters on loan for the season, then £6m, staggered over 18 months, etc.

Refreshing. I like new Spurs.

Haha. Throw this one back in...

this is a Levy deal. Last year of contract, so half market price or less, and since the coach trusts this player the chairman would pay 11 without the usual silly clauses because he knows there's only a tiny tiny chance of this asset depreciating in value over the next 3 years...

It's the bigger deals that Levy has struggled with over the years, although I will perhaps give you Son as an exception.

Let's see what Levy can do when some other big clubs are competing with us for a key player

Xhaka who got sent off 3 times last season?
Also Xhaka will start most matches for Arsenal with Coquelin as back up. We have Dier who is one of the first names on the team sheet, Wanayama will be coming to provide an alternative.

Ok, let's just say Dier gets an injury & is laid up for a while, are some of you seriously saying that you would prefer Bentaleb over Wanyama for the holding role?
It's a squad upgrade and I for one think it's a great signing (if signed)
